Welcome back to the 41st episode of my $10 Series! Today I take you around the bustling city of Cairo, Egypt to see how far I can stretch $10USD (PS: I got 10 items!).
I actually went to Cairo the first time in 2015 - way back when I was a budget backpacker and travel blogger (before I owned a video camera). I was young and naïve and to be honest, I didn't have a great time here.
But now, I'm back with fresh eyes and new perspectives, and let's just say that I'm enjoying Cairo about 10X as much as I did 5 years ago. It's also a very special time to visit because there are (literally) ZERO TOURISTS HERE, so I had the Pyramids of Giza all to myself. As long as you take precautions (wear mask, avoid physical contact, wash hands frequently), then traveling is possible right now amid this new normal.

Road to ... refers to a series of seven comedy films starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour. They are also often referred to as the "Road" pictures or the "Road" series. The movies were a combination of adventure, comedy, romance, and music. The minimal plot often took a back seat to gags, many of them supposedly ad-libbed by Crosby and Hope during filming.
Films in the series
Each film is not simply a comedic film, but a satire of some of the popular film genres of the day, including jungle, Arabian nights, Alaskan adventure, and high seas. The final film not only comes much later, but involves a newer genre; Hong Kong spoofs the spy films of the sixties.
In 1977, an eighth Road to ... movie was planned, titled Road to the Fountain of Youth; however, Crosby died that year of a heart attack.
In 1947, Astor Pictures released a compilation film of several of Crosby's Educational Pictures short subjects called The Road to Hollywood to evoke the series.

The "Road to..." episodes, also known as the Family Guy Road shows, are a series of episodes in the animated series Family Guy. They are a parody of the seven Road to... comedy films, starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour.
These episodes involve baby, Stewie Griffin and anthropomorphic dog, Brian in some foreign, supernatural or science fiction location not familiar to the show's normal location in Quahog, Rhode Island. The first, titled "Road to Rhode Island", aired on May 30, 2000, as a part of the second season. The episodes are known for featuring elaborate musical numbers, similar to the original films. As of 2013, there are seven Road to episodes, mirroring the Bing Crosby count of movies.
The Road to episodes contain several signature elements, including a special version of the opening sequence, custom musical cues and musical numbers, and parodies of science fiction and fantasy films. Many of the episodes are popular among television critics, and have been nominated for several awards. In 2000, "Road to Rhode Island" was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award in the "Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour)" category. In 2009, "Road to Germany", along with two other episodes from the seventh season, were nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award in the "Outstanding Comedy Series" category, the first time in 48 years multiple episodes of one animated series were nominated for the same award.

Cairo (/ˈkaɪroʊ/ KYE-roh; Arabic: القاهرة, al-Qāhirah) is the capital and largest city of Egypt. Greater Cairo is the largest metropolitan area in the Middle East and the Arab world, and 15th-largest in the world, and is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, modern Cairo was founded in 969 CE by Jawhar al-Siqilli ("the Sicilian") of the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life, and is nicknamed "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.
Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr ([mɑsˤɾ], مصر), the Egyptian Arabic pronunciation of the name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Its official name is القاهرة al-Qāhirah , means literally: "the Defeater", in reference to the fact that the planet Mars ("Al Najm Al Qahir") was rising at the time when the city was founded as well as, "the Vanquisher"; "the Conqueror"; Egyptian Arabic pronunciation: [elqɑ(ː)ˈheɾɑ], "the Defeater" or, " "the Victorious" (al-Qahira) in reference to the much awaited Caliph al-Mu'izz li Din Allah who arrived from the old Fatimid Ifriqiyan capital of Mahdia in 973 to the city. The Egyptian name for Cairo is said to be: Khere-Ohe, meaning: "The Place of Combat", supposedly, in reference to a battle which took place between the Gods Seth and Horus. Sometimes the city is informally also referred to as كايرو Kayro [ˈkæjɾo]. It is also called Umm ad-Dunya, meaning "the mother of the world".

Welcome back to the 41st episode of my $10 Series! Today I take you around the bustling city of Cairo, Egypt to see how far I can stretch $10USD (PS: I got 10 items!).
I actually went to Cairo the first time in 2015 - way back when I was a budget backpacker and travel blogger (before I owned a video camera). I was young and naïve and to be honest, I didn't have a great time here.
But now, I'm back with fresh eyes and new perspectives, and let's just say that I'm enjoying Cairo about 10X as much as I did 5 years ago. It's also a very special time to visit because there are (literally) ZERO TOURISTS HERE, so I had the Pyramids of Giza all to myself. As long as you take precautions (wear mask, avoid physical contact, wash hands frequently), then traveling is possible right now amid this new normal.

Weekday morning drive at sunrise in downtown Cairo Egypt, the largest metro city in Africa. The city is centered on the Nile River, where you find many international hotels and business high-rises. In a way, it feels like visiting London or Paris where many of the unique or historical elements of the city are located along the river. I love it! One of the most unique places I have ever visited!

Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital, is set on the Nile River. At its heart is Tahrir Square and the vast Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities including royal mummies and gilded King Tutankhamun artifacts. Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. Its metropolitan area, with a population of over 20 million, is the largest in Africa, the Arab world, and the Middle East, and the 6th-largest in the world. The Cairo Metro is one of the only two metro systems in Africa (the other being in Algiers, Algeria), and ranks amongst the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. Its metropolitan area, with a population of over 20 million, is the largest in Africa, the Arab world, and the Middle East, and the 6th-largest in the world. Cairo is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, Cairo was founded in 969 AD by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture. Cairo is considered a World City with a "Beta +" classification according to GaWC.
Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab world, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, Al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city; the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence.
With a population of over 9 million spread over 3,085 square kilometers (1,191 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 9.5 million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city. The Cairo Metro is one of the only two metro systems in Africa (the other being in Algiers, Algeria), and ranks amongst the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally on Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index.

Welcome back to the 41st episode of my $10 Series! Today I take you around the bustling city of Cairo, Egypt to see how far I can stretch $10USD (PS: I got 10 items!).
I actually went to Cairo the first time in 2015 - way back when I was a budget backpacker and travel blogger (before I owned a video camera). I was young and naïve and to be honest, I didn't have a great time here.
But now, I'm back with fresh eyes and new perspectives, and let's just say that I'm enjoying Cairo about 10X as much as I did 5 years ago. It's also a very special time to visit because there are (literally) ZERO TOURISTS HERE, so I had the Pyramids of Giza all to myself. As long as you take precautions (wear mask, avoid physical contact, wash hands frequently), then traveling is possible right now amid this new normal.

Egypt is one of the most visited countries in Africa, but very few people venture to THIS spot. The so-called Garbage City is not just a neighbourhood, but an entire ecosystem within the giant metropolis of Cairo, a short drive from the ancient Pyramids.

Weekday morning drive at sunrise in downtown Cairo Egypt, the largest metro city in Africa. The city is centered on the Nile River, where you find many international hotels and business high-rises. In a way, it feels like visiting London or Paris where many of the unique or historical elements of the city are located along the river. I love it! One of the most unique places I have ever visited!
Video starts downtown along the Nile River, passes Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum, crosses the Nile to the west side of the city and ends in the east side of the city known as Old Cairo.

Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital, is set on the Nile River. At its heart is Tahrir Square and the vast Egyptian Museum, a trove of antiquities including royal mummies and gilded King Tutankhamun artifacts. Nearby, Giza is the site of the iconic pyramids and Great Sphinx, dating to the 26th century BC. In Gezira Island’s leafy Zamalek district, 187m Cairo Tower affords panoramic city views.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. Its metropolitan area, with a population of over 20 million, is the largest in Africa, the Arab world, and the Middle East, and the 6th-largest in the world. Cairo is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, Cairo was founded in 969 AD by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. With a population of over 9 million spread over 3,085 square kilometers (1,191 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 9.5 million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city. The Cairo Metro is one of the only two metro systems in Africa (the other being in Algiers, Algeria), and ranks amongst the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally on Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index.

Road to ...
Road to ... refers to a series of seven comedy films starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour. They are also often referred to as the "Road" pictures or the "Road" series. The movies were a combination of adventure, comedy, romance, and music. The minimal plot often took a back seat to gags, many of them supposedly ad-libbed by Crosby and Hope during filming.
Films in the series
Each film is not simply a comedic film, but a satire of some of the popular film genres of the day, including jungle, Arabian nights, Alaskan adventure, and high seas. The final film not only comes much later, but involves a newer genre; Hong Kong spoofs the spy films of the sixties.
In 1977, an eighth Road to ... movie was planned, titled Road to the Fountain of Youth; however, Crosby died that year of a heart attack.
In 1947, Astor Pictures released a compilation film of several of Crosby's Educational Pictures short subjects called The Road to Hollywood to evoke the series.
