Hilary Swank on why we should all live our bucket list every day
Hilary Swank

The two-time Oscar winner on returning to acting and appreciating each day.

Sitting down in a quiet corner after having photographers and smartphone-wielding guests surround her, Hilary Swank is still all smiles at Derby Day 2015, which she attended on behalf of Swisse. “I think I’m getting a little more used to it,” she says, flashing her signature brilliant smile. “But I don’t think anyone feels very natural.” The Nebraskan-born actress takes it all in her stride, except perhaps for when she’s on the plane. “It’s a little bit more of an invasion of privacy. Not at an event like this, but if you’re on a plane and trying to catch up on a little rest and you wake up to someone taking a photo of you… it’s a little awkward!”

After starring in films from P.S. I Love You to Boys Don’t Cry (“People have come up to me to say that Boys Don’t Cry has helped them come out to their family), she had spent the last two years looking after her father, who had a lung transplant. “Thankfully, he’s getting better now, so I can start to look for my next project.” In a recent interview with The Independent, she also spoke about how she’s now focused on the day-by-day, and her bucket list. “I live my bucket list every day. I’m full in the moment,” she elaborates to Vogue. “When you have someone that you love who comes so close to losing their precious life, it really makes you appreciate every moment.”
