Cfrc presents The Tragically Hip-ute, three hours of love for the band that started in Kingston. Our tribute includes covers by local bands, readings of Gord Downie's poetry, stories about the Hip from both the Queen's and Kingston community, along with some special guests and more.

Please join us on August 19th at 1pm, the day before their final concert, as we celebrate the journey of one of Canada's best rock bands of all time, The Tragically Hip.

Prisoner's Justice Day Wednesday August 10th

2016 marks the 41th annual Prisoners Justice Day, which began in commemoration of Eddie Nalon, a prisoner who bled to death in the segregation unit of Millhaven prison, in the Kingston area, on August 10, 1974. With the recent deaths of Terry Baker in the Grand Valley Institution and Francisco Javier Romero Astorga in the custody of the Canadian Border Services Agency, remembrance and action  are as urgent and timely now as then.
From 4-7pm, CFRC 101.9fm airs history, interviews, news, features and memorials about prisoners and prison conditions.  From 7-10pm, tune in for messages and music requests by and for prisoners and their loved ones and supporters in the community.

World Listening Day, Monday July 18th

This Monday, CFRC's History Vault will be transformed into CFRC's Music Vault for a special World Listening Day broadcast, featuring guest host Michael McLaren.

Exploring this year's theme of "Sounds Lost and Found," this broadcast will feature a sound-art piece prepared using the audio found in CFRC's music library.

Late Nite Kingston Rides Again!

Do you remember that little summer gem, Late Nite Kingston? Well, M0tt and Dice are back for a limited time only! Tune in on July 22nd at 12 am, right after A Working Knowledge for a 6 week run. No idea what Late Nite Kingston is? Here's a little description:

"Light-hearted and experimental long-form interview and talk show presented warts and all by unprofessional weirdos. We interview nobodies and talk about nothing. A showcase of local subjects, verbs, and objects -- because language is metaphor and words are a shallow, frail vessel for describing the richness of life but it's all we have on the radio."

It's going to be fun on a bun!

"Light the Fire" Wildcard Series

The federal government has designated Kingston as a community with a demonstrable and significant problem of homelessness. It’s a reprehensible reality: statistics show that we lack affordable housing, have low vacancy rates, and an increasing post-secondary student demand on housing. Worse still, one in ten Kingston families lives in poverty. Within this reality, people cannot accommodate even basic needs with an adequate standard of living.

Welcome to Light the Fire: a CFRC original program dedicated to the issue of housing in your own home town.
Light the Fire begins airing on Wednesday, June 22, as part of the Wildcard documentary series. Tune in, Wednesdays at 4pm on one of the most inclusive, compassionate stations around—CFRC, 101.9 FM!

Summer Schedule 2016
