The best pizza in town is Pizza Capitano just off Piazza Cairoli. The owner is a little gruff however the wood oven gives an authentic Sicilian flavor. Its also excellent value and is always busy especially during Series A football matches when the atmosphere reaches fever pitch.

Messina per molto tempo ritenuta fuori da giri criminali della Mafia, si dimostra una vera e propria università del crimine.
Il termine mafia indica una particolare e specifica tipologia di organizzazione criminale, generalmente dotata di peculiari caratteristiche.
Una delle organizzazioni del genere più famosa è nota come cosa nostra, espressione riferentesi alla mafia siciliana, che venne utilizzata per la prima volta pubblicamente dal primo pentito statunitense Joe Valachi.
Nei primi decenni dell'ottocento alcuni grandi proprietari terrieri siciliani e non presero ad affidare a bande di persone violente il compito di costringere i contadini a pagare quanto pretendevano per la coltivazione delle loro terre. Con il tempo, queste bande divennero sempre più forti, fino a diventare autonome, cioè non più sottomesse ai proprietari terrieri. Nacque così la Mafia, che venne chiamata, Cosa Nostra come la chiamavano chi ne faceva parte. Un'organizzazione criminale che si diffuse nelle varie città senza difficoltà: lo Stato, infatti, era lontano, occupato a risolvere problemi che sembravano tutti più importanti, e non intervenne. Così la mafia divenne sempre più forte e addirittura l'alternativa allo Stato: uno stato parallelo. Infatti, come lo Stato, imponeva le tasse(il pizzo) in cambio di assistenza (protezione); elaborava leggi (regole) e puniva coloro che non le rispettavano (amministrazione della giustizia).
L'effettiva origine del lemma e del fenomeno sono incerte. Alcuni ritengono che il fenomeno abbia origine e sia ispirato dalla setta segreta spagnola della Garduna, secondo altri da quella dei Beati Paoli, operante in Italia nel XII secolo circa. Una delle prime apparizioni del termine fu in un documento redatto in Italia, dal funzionario del Regno delle Due Sicilie Pietro Calà Ulloa scrisse, a proposito del fenomeno

It is the 3rd largest city on the island of Sicily, and the 13th largest city in Italy, with a population of more than 252,000 inhabitants in the city proper and about 650,000 in the province. Il termine mafia indica una particolare e specifica tipologia di organizzazione criminale, generalmente dotata di peculiari caratteristiche.
Una delle organizzazioni del genere più famosa è nota come cosa nostra, espressione riferentesi alla mafia siciliana, che venne utilizzata per la prima volta pubblicamente dal primo pentito statunitense Joe Valachi.
Nei primi decenni dell'ottocento alcuni grandi proprietari terrieri siciliani e non presero ad affidare a bande di persone violente il compito di costringere i contadini a pagare quanto pretendevano per la coltivazione delle loro terre. Con il tempo, queste bande divennero sempre più forti, fino a diventare autonome, cioè non più sottomesse ai proprietari terrieri. Nacque così la Mafia, che venne chiamata, Cosa Nostra come la chiamavano chi ne faceva parte. Un'organizzazione criminale che si diffuse nelle varie città senza difficoltà: lo Stato, infatti, era lontano, occupato a risolvere problemi che sembravano tutti più importanti, e non intervenne. Così la mafia divenne sempre più forte e addirittura l'alternativa allo Stato: uno stato parallelo. Infatti, come lo Stato, imponeva le tasse(il pizzo) in cambio di assistenza (protezione); elaborava leggi (regole) e puniva coloro che non le rispettavano (amministrazione della giustizia).
L'effettiva origine del lemma e del fenomeno sono incerte. Alcuni ritengono che il fenomeno abbia origine e sia ispirato dalla setta segreta spagnola della Garduna, secondo altri da quella dei Beati Paoli, operante in Italia nel XII secolo circa. Una delle prime apparizioni del termine fu in un documento redatto in Italia, dal funzionario del Regno delle Due Sicilie Pietro Calà Ulloa scrisse, a proposito del fenomeno
