Seconds is a 1966 American science fiction drama film directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Rock Hudson. The screenplay by Lewis John Carlino was based on Seconds, a novel by David Ely. The film was entered into the 1966 Cannes Film Festival and released by Paramount Pictures. The cinematography by James Wong Howe was nominated for an Academy Award.
In 2015, the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry, finding it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
Seconds is an expressionistic blend of horror, thriller and science fiction about the obsession with eternal youth and misplaced faith in the ability of medical science to achieve it.
Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) is a middle-aged man whose life has lost purpose. He has achieved success in his career, but finds it unfulfilling. His love for his wife of many years has dwindled. His only child is married and he seldom sees her. Through a friend, a man he thought was dead, Hamilton is approached by a secret organization, known simply as the "Company."

Which is dictated not so much by their own conscious decision but by the intervention of fate. Shot entirely in Liverpool, the city is as much part of the film as the two main characters, personifying the juxtaposition of harshness and warmth with its beautiful yet raw surroundings. The ebb and flow of the River Mersey echoing the certainty that time will pass.

Along "Giant" , "Seconds" remained one of Rock's favorite of his movies. The film was based on David Ely' s novel. Rock was finding himself pigeonhelded in comedy & yearning to change his image and "Seconds" was an opportunity to break out of comedy mold. The failure at boxoffice hurted him; fans were not willing to see him in that kind of role. But years later "Seconds" had been elevated to Classic status. Rock went to Cannes Festival to present the movie in 1966.

Want a second chance, and do it in style? Seconds is was shot by the legendary John Wong Howe, who pioneered camera techniques including fish-eye lens, hand-held, mostly in black and white. The film flopped at the box office but developed a cult following. An eerie sci-fi-noir tale about a chance to start over -- but with a huge price tag. Rock Hudson did fine acting, which he probably never had a chance to hone being cast in mostly goofy romantic comedies or as good-looking soldiers. Directed by noted film-maker John Frankenheimer. He also directed The Manchurian Candidate and The Birdman of Alcatraz, which admirers call his "re-born" paranoia trilogy.

All day
Hiding from the sun
Waiting for the golden one
Waiting for your fame
After the parade has gone
Outside was a happy place
Every face had a smile like the golden face
For a second
Your knuckles white as your fingers curl
The shot that was heard around the world
For a second
Refrain :
It took seconds of your time to take his life
It took seconds
(Refrain)
It took seconds of your time to take his life
It took seconds of your time to take his life
Seconds
Seconds
(Refrain twice)
For a second
(Refrain twice)
For a second
It took seconds of your time to take his life
Seconds of your time to take his life
For a second
For a second
