Karen Ross is the Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, having been appointed to that post by Governor Jerry Brown on January 12, 2011. She had previously served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, a position she accepted in 2009. From 1996 to 2009, she was president of the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG). She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and the Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Program.
Her prior experience includes ten years as an advocate for agricultural and rural electric cooperatives at the state and national level, both in California and her native state of Nebraska, and serving as a staff member for then-United States Senator Edward Zorinsky of Nebraska from 1978 to 1985, and working on several U.S. Senate and presidential campaigns.
A major leader in California's agricultural community, she was born and reared on a family farm in western Nebraska which she and her husband co-own with her brother where her family still raises grain crops, sunflowers and cattle.
Ross (Ros in Scottish Gaelic) is a region of Scotland and a former earldom and county. The name Ross allegedly derives from a Gaelic word meaning "headland", perhaps a reference to the Black Isle. Another possible origin is the West Norse word for Orkney – Hrossey – meaning horse island; the area once belonged to the Norwegian (West Norse) earldom of Orkney. Ross is a historical comital region, perhaps predating the Mormaerdom of Ross.
Excavations of a rock shelter and shell midden at Sand, Applecross on the coast of Wester Ross have shown that the coast was occupied by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers.
It may be doubted whether the Romans ever effected even a temporary settlement in the area of the modern county. In Roman times, and for long afterwards, the land was occupied by Picts, who, in the 6th and 7th centuries, were converted to Christianity by followers of Saint Columba. Throughout the next three centuries the natives were continually harassed by Norwegian Viking raiders, of whose presence tokens have survived in several place-names (Dingwall, Tain, and others). At this time the country formed part of the great province of Moray (Latin: Moravia), which then extended as far as the Dornoch Firth and the Oykel, and practically comprised the whole of Ross and Cromarty.
An agriculture ministry (also called an agriculture department, agriculture board, agriculture council, or agriculture agency, or ministry of rural development) is a ministry charged with agriculture. The ministry is often headed by a minister for agriculture.
Specific duties may relate to regulation, promotion, agricultural research, price supports and agricultural subsidies, plant diseases and invasive species. Some countries have multiple agriculture ministries, devoting entire ministries to more specific policy areas such as forestry and fisheries; rural affairs; food and food quality, security, and safety; consumer protection; and matters relating to the environment.

Plot: It's Friday afternoon, and Dave McGuiness has a problem. Last night, his longtime girlfriend, Karen, told him that she wants to get married. She'd like an answer by Monday, but Dave's not sure he's ready to propose. As Dave starts to share his feelings with family and close friends on the pros and cons of getting married, he learns that the rumor mill is two steps ahead of him. Everyone in the South Suburbs of Chicago already thinks he and Karen are "officially" engaged. Dave's buddy Marv knows just what will help Dave forget the dilemma for a while. He takes Dave, Dave's brother Ben and their friend Al out to party on the town all weekend. Marv figures that if this is Dave's last weekend before he pops the question, it had better be one he won't soon forget. But Dave figures that if he does marry Karen, he may never get a chance to try something else, and the rest of his life won't be much more than night after night in these same bars. And it seems that everyone they talk to has an opinion - waitresses, blues singers, and even a family friend who wants to give Dave a job to help support his new wife. Dave finally decides that he does love Karen enough to marry her, so he's ready to go through with the proposal. But, in the back of his mind, he also hopes that she loves him enough to help him grow and to consider leaving the South Suburbs with him. Karen is surprised that Dave wants to change - surprised enough to rethink getting married. If Dave wants a fresh start with his life, it's going to have to be a fresh start with Karen too.

What we can learn from Jewish and Palestinian Encounters in Israel? Encounters between Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel have long been utilized as an approach for building peace. But how do we know whether they are successful? How can we define, or measure, the ‘impact’ of these grassroots initiatives? In this presentation, Professor Ross will draw on her ongoing research with youth-oriented encounter organizations to address these questions and explore the potential of these encounters to build int...

It might take some time
But I'll do it on my own
YOu act as if it's a crime
Like I'm bad down to my bones
But I sleep at night time
And I can't understand how you ever did
Sounds cliche I can't live a lie
I was feeling old and tired
Now I feel like a little kid
I think you're suddenly blind
Only see waht you want to do
Good God man where's your mind
You don't see me but you're so easy to see through
Now I'm slipping through the corn rows
Now I'm slipping through the corn rows
You can't see me any more
Now you're slipping through the corn rows
Slipping through the back rows
