Île-de-France (English: /ˌiːl dəˈfrɑːns/, French: [il dəˈfʁɑ̃s], "Island of France"), also known as the région parisienne ("Paris Region"; see Etymology), is one of the 18 regions of France, and includes the city of Paris. It covers 12,012 square kilometers (4,638 square miles), and has its own regional council and president. It has a population of 12,005,077 as of January 2014, or 18.2 percent of the population of France.
The region is made up of eight administrative departments: Paris, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Seine-et-Marne, Val-de-Marne, Val-d'Oise and Yvelines. Created as the "District of the Paris Region" in 1961, it was renamed after the historic province of Île-de-France in 1976 when its administrative status was aligned with the other French administrative regions created in 1972. Residents are sometimes referred to as "Franciliens", an administrative word created in the 1980s.
The GDP of the region in 2012 was 612.3 billion Euros, or (US$788 billion at market exchange rates). It has the highest per-capita GDP among regions in France, and the third highest of regions in the European Union. In 2014 thirty companies from the Fortune Global 500 had their headquarters in the Paris Region.
France (French: [fʁɑ̃s]), officially the French Republic (French: République française [ʁepyblik fʁɑ̃sɛz]), is a sovereign state comprising territory in western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. The European part of France, called metropolitan France, extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. France spans 643,801 square kilometres (248,573 sq mi) and has a total population of 66.6 million. It is a unitary semi-presidential republic with the capital in Paris, the country's largest city and main cultural and commercial centre. The Constitution of France establishes the state as secular and democratic, with its sovereignty derived from the people.
During the Iron Age, what is now Metropolitan France was inhabited by the Gauls, a Celtic people. The Gauls were conquered in 51 BC by the Roman Empire, which held Gaul until 486. The Gallo-Romans faced raids and migration from the Germanic Franks, who dominated the region for hundreds of years, eventually creating the medieval Kingdom of France. France emerged as a major European power in the Late Middle Ages, with its victory in the Hundred Years' War (1337 to 1453) strengthening French state-building and paving the way for a future centralized absolute monarchy. During the Renaissance, France experienced a vast cultural development and established the beginning of a global colonial empire. The 16th century was dominated by religious civil wars between Catholics and Protestants (Huguenots).

Champagne-Ardenne region lies in north France and borders Ile de France, Burgundy and Lorraine. Fertile soil and chalk rocks of this region offer optimum conditions for grapevine growing. French history has always been closely connected Champagne. French kings were crowned here and the important battles of Marne were fought here. Versailles is a wealthy suburb of Paris with a service based economy and is a major tourist destination. This film features views around the town of Versailles, which is situated on the the South West outskirts of Paris in the Yvelines département in Île-de-France region. The town is renowned worldwide for its château, the Château de Versailles and the gardens of Versailles, designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The film is taken around the town of Versailles, as well as at the Château and extensive gardens. The Château was closed to enter as filming was taking place for a period drama, but there are some nice shots of the actors in their costumes. The gardens were open and looked spectacular as ever, even in the drab grey weather. The film features the following identified locations...

Reunion Island Travel Guide - Oh la la! After a long-haul flight, you step off the plane and you're greeted with a bonjour. Then you breakfast on croissants and chocolat chaud (hot chocolate). At first glance, Réunion is like a chunk of France teleported to the tropics. But beyond the Gallic panache, you'll soon realise it's a resplendent tapestry, which also blends Indian, African and Chinese influences. Home to one of the world's most active volcanoes, snow-capped Piton de Fournaise, Reunion Island is a little known gem. This rocky, French-governed island off the coast of East Africa is easily explored by Les Cars Jaunes, yellow buses that link main settlements. The road into the mountains provides breathtaking scenery. Bike tours on rough back roads are an option for the brave and the ...
The Palace of Versailles (Château de Versailles) is a royal château in Versailles in the Île-de-France region of France. Versailles was the seat of political power in the Kingdom of France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved the royal court from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789, within three months after the beginning of the French Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime.
On me dit "Mon fils, allez-y, sur quel bord penchent vos médailles?
