A bit more about the sighting:
In this video it is incredible to see how a pride of lion attempt to take down a fully grown hippopotamus. Watch how the hippo turns to take its frustration out on a nearby vehicle.
25 year old, Dean Grant, works in the construction industry as a Finance and Operations Manager but during his off-time, he decided to head off to the Kruger National Park with his family.
“Having visited game parks on many family holidays growing up, we had never seen anything like this. We told many rangers about our experience none of which had ever heard of such a thing and said if they had been asked "would lion ever attack a hippo?", they would have said no.
We saw the attack quite early in the morning. We had driven into the park from Mjejane as soon as the gates were open. We decided to go west along the river to start our drive. All our eyes were peeled, we were feeling fresh and excited searching the bush in anticipation, not knowing what our first big spot of the day would be. We were really hoping to see some cats as we had yet to tick those off our lists. We hardly expected to see a pride of 8 females and some teenage cubs in full attack mode right in front of us.
The initial sighting of the lions, full of energy, sparked excitement. This was followed by a feeling of sorrow for the poor old hippo who didn’t stand much chance against the lion pride.
Horror, when the thought of how much pain and stress the hippo was in and to see the hippo’s eyes realise imminent death.
However, as this is an event of life taking its course, I felt a sense of respect for the lion pride’s hard work and determination to make their next big kill to feed the pride. A feeling of uncertainty also made an appearance as the hippo made a move towards the river, “Was the hippo maybe going to make a great escape and get itself down to the river?”. It was a moment for which I will always feel privileged to have witnessed this scene unwind.
The sighting ended when the hippo made its way down into a ditch off the road just out of sight. The lions where now taking turns at attacking the hippo and getting through its tough skin while the others lay up the hill in the shade panting and taking small naps.
Knowing that the hippo’s chances were now over they were no longer in a rush. We watched the exhausted lions for a while before driving off feeling very privileged. We returned later that afternoon to find the lions passed out and very full from their well-deserved meal.”

The All-New Discovery feels at home in the city, and also drives impeccably off-road. It takes towing capability to a new level, with a capacity of up to 8201 lbs and a suite of features available to help make towing effortless and assured. Optimized suspension geometry coupled with unique Land Rover technologies ensures it delivers the ultimate all-terrain capability.
You can also fold each of the rear seats down individually, while the second row of seats can slide forward and back, too.
In the Discovery’s rivals, the third row of seats is generally only really suitable for small children, however Land Rover insists this car has enough room for adults to sit comfortably, while four of the five rear seats come with ISOFIX child-seat mounting points.
Technology & equipment
When it goes on sale next year, the new Land Rover Discovery will be available in four trim levels – S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. Starting at £43,495, the entry-level S comes with air-conditioning, 19-inch alloy wheels, an automatic gearbox, air-suspension, seven seats, a powered tailgate, cruise control, DAB radio and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
The S also gets the InControl Touch infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. It includes features such as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Go for one of these models and you also get InControl Protect, a system that allows you to check things like the car’s fuel level and location, as well as record your journeys and check you haven’t left a window open.
It does all this through the InControl Remote smartphone app, while it can also transmit your location and diagnostic information to a breakdown recovery company if needed. Should something more serious such as a collision happen, however, the system can also alert the emergency services to your location.
Move up to £49,495 SE trim and there are LED headlamps, power-folding mirrors, front foglights, power-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting. You also get ISOFIX points on the front passenger seat, as well as automatic headlights, an uprated stereo, SD-card based sat nav and front and rear parking sensors.
Next up is HSE, which starts at £56,995. This gets 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded rear lights, Windsor leather upholstery, 16-way adjustable front seats with a memory function, a fixed panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and a system that allows you to open the tailgate by waving your foot under the bumper.
There’s also the upgraded InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a 360-watt Meridian stereo and a hard-drive-based satellite-navigation system. The HSE features keyless entry, a driver fatigue monitor, a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring and InControl Pro Services, too.
The top-of-the-range HSE Luxury model starts at £62,695 and comes with 21-inch alloy wheels, even more leather, winged headrests and an opening sunroof as standard. The front seats can be cooled as well as heated, while you also get thicker carpets, a heated steering wheel, configurable ‘mood lighting’, the intelligent seat-folding system and four-zone climate control as standard. These cars also get an 825-watt Meridian sound system, rear seat entertainment screens, a surround camera and the upgraded Terrain Response 2 suite of off-road driving aids.

Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger (German pronunciation: [diˈa:nə ˈkru:ɡɐ]; born Diane Heidkrüger; 15 July 1976) is a German actress and former fashion model. She is known for roles such as Helen in the epic war film Troy (2004), Dr. Abigail Chase in the adventure/heist film National Treasure (2004) and its sequel (2007), Bridget von Hammersmark in the Quentin Tarantino-directed war film Inglourious Basterds (2009), Anna in the sci-fi drama Mr. Nobody (2009), and Gina in the psychological thriller film Unknown (2011). You can also fold each of the rear seats down individually, while the second row of seats can slide forward and back, too. In the Discovery’s rivals, the third row of seats is generally only really suitable for small children, however Land Rover insists this car has enough room for adults to sit comfortably, while four of the five rear seats come with ISOFIX child-seat mounting points. Technology & equipment When it goes on sale next year, the new Land Rover Discovery will be available in four trim levels – S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. Starting at £43,495, the entry-level S comes with air-conditioning, 19-inch alloy wheels, an automatic gearbox, air-suspension, seven seats, a powered tailgate, cruise control, DAB radio and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. The S also gets the InControl Touch infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. It includes features such as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Go for one of these models and you also get InControl Protect, a system that allows you to check things like the car’s fuel level and location, as well as record your journeys and check you haven’t left a window open. It does all this through the InControl Remote smartphone app, while it can also transmit your location and diagnostic information to a breakdown recovery company if needed. Should something more serious such as a collision happen, however, the system can also alert the emergency services to your location. Move up to £49,495 SE trim and there are LED headlamps, power-folding mirrors, front foglights, power-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting. You also get ISOFIX points on the front passenger seat, as well as automatic headlights, an uprated stereo, SD-card based sat nav and front and rear parking sensors. Next up is HSE, which starts at £56,995. This gets 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded rear lights, Windsor leather upholstery, 16-way adjustable front seats with a memory function, a fixed panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and a system that allows you to open the tailgate by waving your foot under the bumper. There’s also the upgraded InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a 360-watt Meridian stereo and a hard-drive-based satellite-navigation system. The HSE features keyless entry, a driver fatigue monitor, a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring and InControl Pro Services, too. The top-of-the-range HSE Luxury model starts at £62,695 and comes with 21-inch alloy wheels, even more leather, winged headrests and an opening sunroof as standard. The front seats can be cooled as well as heated, while you also get thicker carpets, a heated steering wheel, configurable ‘mood lighting’, the intelligent seat-folding system and four-zone climate control as standard. These cars also get an 825-watt Meridian sound system, rear seat entertainment screens, a surround camera and the upgraded Terrain Response 2 suite of off-road driving aids. It seems that, on this particular installment, the host plans to discuss heartless masters who kill their hunting dogs on trips after they have grown old and worn out their usefulness. Elmer, not knowing what's behind Rover's suddenly hostile, edgy demeanor, suggests the two go on a hunting trip--exactly what Rover doesn't want to hear. Fearing the worst, the paranoid pooch sets up a number of traps to kill off the unsuspecting Elmer. The ill-fated attempts include swiping Elmer's gun and shooting at him from afar, but killing a bear instead; releasing a wildcat on Fudd; and planting a land mine beneath where Elmer rests. Every time, Elmer thinks his dog is saving him from said catastrophies. Later at home, an injured Rover watches TV as another installment of "The Dog Lover's Hour" is set to air, sending the bow-wow over the edge; he runs off to the studio and attacks the show's host!

In this video it is incredible to see how a pride of lion attempt to take down a fully grown hippopotamus. Watch how the hippo turns to take its frustration out on a nearby vehicle.
25 year old, Dean Grant, works in the construction industry as a Finance and Operations Manager but during his off-time, he decided to head off to the Kruger National Park with his family.
“Having visited game parks on many family holidays growing up, we had never seen anything like this. We told many rangers about our experience none of which had ever heard of such a thing and said if they had been asked "would lion ever attack a hippo?", they would have said no.
We saw the attack quite early in the morning. We had driven into the park from Mjejane as soon as the gates were open. We decided to go west along the river to start our drive. All our eyes were peeled, we were feeling fresh and excited searching the bush in anticipation, not knowing what our first big spot of the day would be. We were really hoping to see some cats as we had yet to tick those off our lists. We hardly expected to see a pride of 8 females and some teenage cubs in full attack mode right in front of us.
The initial sighting of the lions, full of energy, sparked excitement. This was followed by a feeling of sorrow for the poor old hippo who didn’t stand much chance against the lion pride.
Horror, when the thought of how much pain and stress the hippo was in and to see the hippo’s eyes realise imminent death.
However, as this is an event of life taking its course, I felt a sense of respect for the lion pride’s hard work and determination to make their next big kill to feed the pride. A feeling of uncertainty also made an appearance as the hippo made a move towards the river, “Was the hippo maybe going to make a great escape and get itself down to the river?”. It was a moment for which I will always feel privileged to have witnessed this scene unwind.
The sighting ended when the hippo made its way down into a ditch off the road just out of sight. The lions where now taking turns at attacking the hippo and getting through its tough skin while the others lay up the hill in the shade panting and taking small naps.
Knowing that the hippo’s chances were now over they were no longer in a rush. We watched the exhausted lions for a while before driving off feeling very privileged. We returned later that afternoon to find the lions passed out and very full from their well-deserved meal.”

IMPRESSIVE CAPABILITY
The All-New Discovery feels at home in the city, and also drives impeccably off-road. It takes towing capability to a new level, with a capacity of up to 8201 lbs and a suite of features available to help make towing effortless and assured. Optimized suspension geometry coupled with unique Land Rover technologies ensures it delivers the ultimate all-terrain capability.
You can also fold each of the rear seats down individually, while the second row of seats can slide forward and back, too.
In the Discovery’s rivals, the third row of seats is generally only really suitable for small children, however Land Rover insists this car has enough room for adults to sit comfortably, while four of the five rear seats come with ISOFIX child-seat mounting points.
Technology & equipment
When it goes on sale next year, the new Land Rover Discovery will be available in four trim levels – S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. Starting at £43,495, the entry-level S comes with air-conditioning, 19-inch alloy wheels, an automatic gearbox, air-suspension, seven seats, a powered tailgate, cruise control, DAB radio and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
The S also gets the InControl Touch infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. It includes features such as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Go for one of these models and you also get InControl Protect, a system that allows you to check things like the car’s fuel level and location, as well as record your journeys and check you haven’t left a window open.
It does all this through the InControl Remote smartphone app, while it can also transmit your location and diagnostic information to a breakdown recovery company if needed. Should something more serious such as a collision happen, however, the system can also alert the emergency services to your location.
Move up to £49,495 SE trim and there are LED headlamps, power-folding mirrors, front foglights, power-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting. You also get ISOFIX points on the front passenger seat, as well as automatic headlights, an uprated stereo, SD-card based sat nav and front and rear parking sensors.
Next up is HSE, which starts at £56,995. This gets 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded rear lights, Windsor leather upholstery, 16-way adjustable front seats with a memory function, a fixed panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and a system that allows you to open the tailgate by waving your foot under the bumper.
There’s also the upgraded InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a 360-watt Meridian stereo and a hard-drive-based satellite-navigation system. The HSE features keyless entry, a driver fatigue monitor, a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring and InControl Pro Services, too.
The top-of-the-range HSE Luxury model starts at £62,695 and comes with 21-inch alloy wheels, even more leather, winged headrests and an opening sunroof as standard. The front seats can be cooled as well as heated, while you also get thicker carpets, a heated steering wheel, configurable ‘mood lighting’, the intelligent seat-folding system and four-zone climate control as standard.
