A few notes from my research:
Fla Blvd was origainally called Shell Road before it was paved, The shells made it easy for horse drawn carriages to travel on.
Leaving Downtown BR proper North Blvd changed names Jefferson Hwy, (later this section changed Names again to Goverment) it ended at S Acadian. Acadian was then was a short section of Clay Cut. The 2 road maps (one drawn in the late 1800's & one in 1920) are hard overlay
Clay Cut was called clay gut road, when it was discovered it was a path that wild oxen traveled on. Looking at the old hand drawn map lower Clay cut changed names to Hope Villa road at the intersection of Denham Springs Rd (now Old Hammond hwy). Denham Springs Rd was origainally named Bentons Ferry Rd.
Before it was named Perkins Rd it intersected Starring South of the LR&N; RR tracks then went to the mouth of Bayou Manchac on the Miss river, Later Perkins was extended to Kleinpeter Ville at Highland Rd crossing. Perkins Rd crossed the RR tracks 5 times before heading S into Ascenion Parish

Baton Rouge (/ˌbætən ˈruːʒ/; French for "Red Stick", French: Bâton-Rouge [bɑtɔ̃ ʁuʒ]) is the capital of the U.S. state of Louisiana and its second-largest city. The seat of East Baton Rouge Parish, the city is located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River.
As the "Capital City", Baton Rouge is the political hub for Louisiana, and is the second-largest metropolitan city in the state, with an estimated population of 228,895 as of 2014. The metropolitan area surrounding the city, known as Greater Baton Rouge, had a population of 820,159 people as of 2013. The urban area has around 594,309 inhabitants.
Baton Rouge is a major industrial, petrochemical, medical, research, motion picture, and growing technology center of the American South. The Port of Greater Baton Rouge is the tenth largest in the United States in terms of tonnage shipped, and is the farthest upstream Mississippi River port capable of handling Panamax ships.
The Baton Rouge area owes its historical importance to its strategic site upon the Istrouma Bluff, the first natural bluff upriver from the Mississippi River Delta. This allowed development of a business quarter safe from seasonal flooding. In addition, the city built a levee system stretching from the bluff southward to protect the riverfront and low-lying agricultural areas. The city is a culturally rich center, with settlement by immigrants from numerous European nations and African peoples. It was ruled by seven different governments: French, British, and Spanish in the colonial era, West Floridian, United States territory and state, Confederate, and United States again.

Clay Cut was called clay gut road, when it was discovered it was a path that wild oxen traveled on. Baton Rouge Shooting | 3 Cops Dead, 3 Wounded [BREAKING NEWS]
At least three police officers are dead and and three others are injured after a shooting in the Old Hammond area of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, officials said. One suspect is also dead, but police believe two others may be at large, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office. Louisiana Gov. Jon Bel Edwards implied that multiple participants were possibly involved in either the planning or execution of the attack, in a statement released via social media. "This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing," the governor said. "Rest assured, every resource available to the state of Louisiana will be used to ensure the perpetrators are brought swiftly to justice." Three officers were shot, according to WBRZ-TV, and police closed the streets between the police department’s headquarters and Interstate 12. A witness told the station that a man was dressed in black with his face covered shooting indiscriminately when he walked out between a convenience store and car wash across from Hammond Air Plaza. WAFB-TV reported officers were shot along Airline Highway near Old Hammond Highway, but didn’t specify the number of police. Michael Vinsanau of WBRZ tweeted that more than a dozen marked and unmarked police cars have sped to the scene, and that a SWAT team is on location. Some Families are Leaving Baton Rouge
The population of Baton Rouge is growing. With this growth comes a boost to the capital city's economy, but it isn't as strong as it could be. Young professionals are flocking here, but as they're moving in, families are moving out. Some think it all comes down to our schools. Information from the Applied Population Laboratory show that families could be moving to surrounding parishes. A study released by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber earlier this year says that half the children in the East Baton Rouge Public School System attended under-performing schools last year. Superintendent of EBR Schools, Warren Drake said that the entire system is working together to make East Baton Rouge Parish Schools the schools of choice.

Millennials already make up an average of 40 percent of the unemployed in the United States. A generation living in poverty during the best years of their life is a hard way to go. A federal investigation is underway after videos shot by bystanders show police officers restraining and shooting 37-year-old Alton Sterling outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Source: CNN Baton Rouge, Louisiana (CNN)A homeless man made the 911 call that brought police to the convenience store where Alton Sterling was shot dead, a senior law enforcement official told CNN on Thursday.
Sterling was selling CDs early Tuesday outside the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, the official said, when the homeless man approached him and asked for money.
The man was persistent, and Sterling showed him his gun, the official said.
"I told you to leave me alone," Sterling told the man, according to the official.
The homeless man then used his cell phone to call 911, the official said.
The details about the 911 call shed new light into the Baton Rouge police's high-profile fatal shooting of Sterling, a 37-year-old black man.
A graphic cell phone video of the shooting was shared widely on social media, quickly sparking local protests and drawing national attention. Federal authorities have taken charge of the investigation.
Sterling was shot outside the Baton Rouge convenience store after an encounter with two police officers. The officers can be seen in the video on top of him before shots were fired.
Vigils and memorials have spread across the country in reaction to the deadly shooting.
Local civic leaders and Sterling's loved ones have promised to find out what happened.
"I, for one, will not rest," Quinyetta McMillon, the mother of one of Sterling's children, said Wednesday, "and will not allow ya'll to sweep him in the dirt."
As she spoke, McMillon and Sterling's 15-year-old son stood by her side, sobbing.

The U.S. Justice Department's Civil Rights Division is leading an investigation into what happened. The U.S. attorney's office in Baton Rouge, the FBI and state police also will be involved in the investigation, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said.
One of the crucial next steps will be to determine what happened before the confrontation ensued.
Authorities said the officers were responding to the 911 report of a man with a gun. A source close to the investigation told CNN the 911 caller said Sterling was "brandishing a gun."
A senior law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN that the officers pulled a gun from Sterling's body at the scene. No further details were provided on the type of firearm.
Abdullah Muflahi, the owner of the Triple S Food Mart, told CNN he wasn't aware of any incident Tuesday that would have spurred such a call.
But he's sure the shooting was caught on his store's surveillance cameras, though he hasn't seen it. Police took the video later Tuesday, he told CNN.
There also is police body camera footage of the shooting -- even though the cameras were dislodged -- Baton Rouge police Lt. Johnny Dunham told reporters Wednesday. The cameras continued to record, he added.
Investigators said they'll review multiple videos of the shooting, and they're canvassing for witnesses.
Authorities haven't said what those police videos or other surveillance footage of the scene show, including the lead-up to what the public has already seen or the possible weapon-brandishing incident.
The source involved in the investigation told CNN that the other videos are not nearly as clear as the bystander videos.
Together Baton Rouge, a community group, held a press conference Thursday, applauding the Justice Department for jumping on an investigation and urging the probe to be as broad as possible.
The Rev. Lee Wesley, pastor of the Community Bible Baptist Church, and another community leader, Edgar Cage of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, said they hope that any investigation goes beyond just focusing on possible civil rights violations and explores every facet possible, including systemic problems on the local police force.
The community leaders welcomed protests but urged that they be peaceful. There was a small protest Thursday morning, and another was expected later in the day.
Two videos appear
There are two videos that have publicly surfaced showing Sterling's killing -- the one that catapulted the case into the national spotlight Tuesday, and a second, shorter video of higher quality recorded closer to the shooting.
The first video was posted online Tuesday night. It begins with the camera facing a car dashboard as the three men stand near the vehicle. A single pop is heard. Then someone yells, "Get on the ground."
An officer pulls Sterling over the hood of a silver car and pins him to the ground. Once he's down, the officer begins to assist a second officer in restraining him.

This past October, Captain Broussard and INDO attended the 2014 USPCA trials held in Wilson, NC. where forty-six agencies participated with 104 Police K-9 teams, representing 26 Regions from the USPCA and were named the 2014 USPCA National Champions, making them the first-ever Region 10 team to win from Louisiana. The duo scored 693.34 points out of a possible 700, receiving perfect scores in three of the five events. The duo has a long history of winning trials as they recieved the Regional Top Dog award in 2013 as well as First Place in Patrol. In 2014, the pair came in Second Place in the Regional Trials, though went on to win First Place

Turlich, Jr., announces that 20 deputies from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office were sent to Baton Rouge on July 19 as a temporary duty assignment with the Louisiana Sheriff’s Task Force to assist in protecting the citizens of Baton Rouge. The group returned home safely on July 25.
Sheriff Turlich said, “In August 2012, after Hurricane Isaac made landfall in Plaquemines Parish, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux sent a team of his deputies to Plaquemines Parish to assist us with protecting our citizens. I felt compelled to return the favor. We stand united with the men and women of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Baton Rouge Police Department.”
The Plaquemines deputies, who serve in different capacities at home (Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Patrol, Traffic, Training and SWAT) helped with patrol, SWAT and hospital security duties in Baton Rouge. BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Friday morning after being indicted for murder Thursday afternoon.
Lil Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, was taken from the Hunt Correctional Institute in St. Gabriel to the Louisiana State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge.
He was incarcerated at Hunt on drug and gun charges.
He was processed and sent to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Hatch, 27, was indicted for first-degree murder in the shooting death of Terry Boyd.
The district attorney previously stated the death penalty is a possibility if Hatch is convicted of first-degree murder.
He was also indicted on drug charges Thursday.
He faces three counts of possession with intent to distribute codeine, ecstacy and marijuana.
He was also indicted on three counts of conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute narcotics and two counts of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.
