Fox Sports is the programming division of the Fox Broadcasting Company, owned by 21st Century Fox, that is responsible for sports broadcasts on the network, and its dedicated regional and national sports cable channels. The flagship entity of 21st Century Fox's Fox Sports Media Group division, it was formed in 1994 with Fox's acquisition of broadcast rights to National Football League (NFL) games. In subsequent years, it has televised the National Hockey League (1994–1999), Major League Baseball (1996–present), NASCAR (2001–present), Bowl Championship Series (2007–2010), the USGA Championships (2015–present), and the FIFA World Cup (starting in 2018).
When the Fox Broadcasting Company launched in October 1986, the network's management, having seen how sports programming (in particular, soccer events) played a critical role in the growth of the British satellite service BSkyB, determined that sports would be the type of programming that would ascend Fox to a major network status the quickest; as a result, Fox tried to attract a professional football package to the network. In 1987, after ABC initially hedged on renewing its contract with the National Football League (NFL) for the television rights to Monday Night Football, Fox made an offer for the package at the same price that ABC had been paying at the time – about $13 million per game. However, partly due to the fact that Fox had yet to establish itself as a major network, the NFL decided to resume negotiations with ABC, with the two parties eventually agreeing to a new contract, keeping what was the crown jewel of the league's television broadcasts on that network (where it remained until 2006, when MNF moved to sister network ESPN as part of a contract that also saw NBC gain the Sunday Night Football package).
The Red River Showdown, commonly called the Red River Rivalry, the Red River Classic, or the Red River Shootout, is an American college football rivalry game played annually at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas, Texas during the second weekend of the State Fair of Texas in October. The game is played by the Oklahoma Sooners football team of the University of Oklahoma and the Texas Longhorns football team of the University of Texas at Austin. The series is one of the major rivalries in NCAA football and in all of American sports. The name is derived from the Red River that forms part of the boundary between Texas and Oklahoma that has in the past caused conflict between the two states, most notably the 1931 Red River Bridge War.
There are three Red River Shootout trophies exchanged based on the outcome of the game. The best known of these is the Golden Hat, which is, appropriately, a gold ten-gallon hat, formerly of bronze. The trophy is kept by the winning school's athletic department until the next year. A newer trophy, the Red River Rivalry trophy, has been exchanged between the two student governments since 2003. The governor of Texas and governor of Oklahoma also exchange the Governors' trophy and frequently place a bet on the game such as the losing governor having to present a side of beef to the winning governor, often donated to charity.
College football is American football played by teams of student athletes fielded by American universities, colleges, and military academies, or Canadian football played by teams of student athletes fielded by Canadian universities. It was through college football play that American football rules first gained popularity in the United States. No minor league farm organizations exist in American football. Therefore, college football is generally considered to be the second tier of American football in the United States; one step ahead of high school competition, and one step below professional competition. It is in college football where a player's performance directly impacts his chances of playing professional football. The best collegiate players will typically declare for the professional draft after 3–4 years of collegiate competition; with the NFL holding its annual draft every spring. 255 players are selected annually. Those not selected can still attempt to land an NFL roster spot as an undrafted free agent.
Texas Longhorns athletics programs include the extramural and intramural sports teams of the University of Texas at Austin. These teams are referred to as the Texas Longhorns (or variously as Longhorns or 'Horns), taking their name from the Longhorn cattle that were an important part of the development of Texas, and are now the official "large animal" of the US State of Texas. The University of Texas at Austin is the apparent flagship institution of the University of Texas System. The women's teams are sometimes called the Lady Longhorns, but generally both the men's and women's teams are referred to as the Longhorns, and the mascot is a Texas Longhorn steer named Bevo.
The Longhorn nickname appeared in Texas newspapers by 1900.
The University of Texas at Austin offers a wide variety of varsity and intramural sports programs. Due to the breadth of sports offered and the quality of the programs, Texas was selected as "America's Best Sports College" in a 2002 analysis performed by Sports Illustrated. Texas was also listed as the number one Collegiate Licensing Company client from 2005–2013 in regards to the amount of annual trademark royalties received from the sales of its fan merchandise.

For 108 years, the players, coaches, and fans of two universities have been travelling to the Dallas State Fairgrounds for a l'il tussle between two traditional powers in the Cotton Bowl Stadium. And while there have been some one sided affairs, the large majority of games reflect the intense passion, competition, and disdain that one team has for the other. The Universities of Texas and Oklahoma really don't like each other and for 60 minutes, these two teams will hit each other, run over each other, and grind their feet into one another, all in the desire to end the day with a victory, a golden cowboy hat, and a celebratory corn dog. It's unlike any other rivalry so sit back, fry up some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and enjoy the 109th Red River Shootout!
It's been a long time since the Texas Longhorns started the season at 1 - 4, but after playing and losing to four ranked teams, that is exactly the situation that Charlie Strong and the embattled Longhorn program finds itself in. Enter the Red River Shootout, where fans from Texas and Oklahoma meet in the middle at the Dallas Fairgrounds and commence to cheer until their lungs are spent and their spirit is exhausted. Oklahoma comes in tenth ranked and undefeated, a clear favorite, and looking to continue their march toward the Big 12 conference crown. Under the leadership of new QB Baker Mayfield, the Sooner offense has more explosiveness and determination. The Sooners will look to crush the spirit of the Longhorn early and not allow Texas to stay in the game but Texas has a history of...
Has Bob Stoops lost his mojo? Is Charlie Strong on the hot seat? Wait a second, we have a football game to play here, and it's at the Texas State Fairgrounds - okay, wait, I'll have a fried Twinkie and some fried okra, and two of those fried Jello shots, now I'm good! Enough of the coaching questions, let's play ball. Bake Mayfield is having a banner year and Shane Buechele is performing quite admirably for a freshman. The defenses are in turmoil; Oklahoma is now playing a high school junior and a sixth grader on its defense and Texas, well, I think they wish they had that sixth grader. It's the Red River Shootout - for the 111th time! Just relax and enjoy y'all!
Driving Downtown - Dallas Texas USA - Episode 39. Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/Kt22kujAN242 . Dallas is a major city in the state of Texas and is the largest urban center of the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city proper ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio.[8][9] The city's prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, and its position along numerous railroad lines. Neighborhoods Central Dallas is anchored by Downtown, the center of the city, along with Oak Lawn and Uptown, areas characterized by dense retail, restaurants, and nightlife. Downtown Dallas has a variety of named districts, including the West End Historic District, the Arts District, the Main Street ...
First Round Central Region action #3 Oklahoma vs #6 Indiana Oklahoma enters the 32 team playoff with a 11-1 record, 10-0 in Ea sims. We have seen Oklahoma twice. The first week of the season Oklahoma played South Carolina. The Sooners opened up a 27-7 at the half, over it would not hold. South Carolina’s offense would catch fire, as well as the defense rising to the occasion and scoring a touchdown to start a 31-0 run, that would give Oklahoma a 38-35 loss, their only loss of the season. In the Red River Shootout Oklahoma would play a solid game and win with a late field goal, 23-21, over their hated rival. Oklahoma’s offense is lead by, and centered around, Senior QB Scott Brigham. Brigham has played well in the big games, but has been prone to fumbling. The key to Oklahoma’s offense i...
On this show I will discuss the brutal fourth quarter that could have ended Alabama's streak in the BCS. Also, we look at how the Red River Shootout is not all it's cracked up to be this season
Bad boy, bad boy
Wanting some attention
Looking for some action
Can't get no satisfaction
I am, bad boy
Searching for my place
Falling on my face
Crying out for grace
Take me down
Take me down to Red River
Oh, I need to start again
Take me down
Take me down
Wash me clean in Red River
Cover me in Crimson
I need Red River
I know, I know
I've made a big mistake
Don't deserve no break
His love will never shake
I cry, you cry
Cry out for salvation
Hear this revelation
Ain't no condemnation
Take me down
Take me down to Red River
Oh, I need to start again
Take me down
Take me down
Wash me clean in Red River
Cover me in Crimson
I need Red River
Dripping from that tree
Flowing down Skull Mountain
Into that bloody sea
Cover you
Red River, cover me
Take me down
Take me down to Red River
Oh, I need to start again
Take me down
Take me down
Wash me clean in Red River
Cover me in Crimson
I need Red River
Take me down
Take me down to Red River
