Meet Somali wild asses Hani and Qamar, two remarkable new residents at the Dallas Zoo. These beautiful animals with striped legs are both just over a year old. This species lives in isolated pockets in arid areas of Somalia and Ethiopia. But they're critically endangered, with just about 600 left in the wild due to hunting for food and traditional medicine, interbreeding with domestic donkeys, and competition with domestic livestock for grazing areas.
Only eight zoos U.S. house them. You'll see them from the Monorail Safari in the Wilds of Africa semi-arid habitat, alongside ostrich, gemsbok and addras. (And here's a fun thing: you can even choose them in someone's honor in our Adopt-An-Animal program!)
"CHANEL Mètiers d'Art Paris Dallas" Front Row Celebrities Style by Fashion Channel
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld drew inspiration from the American West for his annual Metiers d'Art traveling fashion show, held on 11 december night in Dallas.
Chanel turned one of the halls at Fair Park, Dallas' Art Deco exhibition venue, into a barn for the night, complete with a hay-scattered runway. Models in Western-style hats and boots wore outfits adorned with fringe, leather and feathers. The final model was dressed in an all-white ensemble that included fringed pants and a floor-grazing feather headdress.
Lagerfeld said after the show that he was inspired by "the idea of the old Texas, even before the Civil War." He noted that his cowboys were "not typical cowboys, they are transposed, very sophisticated."
Many of the outfits included Native American-inspired prints, with most of the models wearing a single feather in their hair. Denim also made frequent appearances on the runway.
For more than a decade, Lagerfeld has picked a city linked to the fashion house for the theme of the show staged each December to highlight the work of its artisans.
Chanel founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel visited in Dallas in 1957 at the invitation of Stanley Marcus, head of Neiman Marcus, the Dallas-based luxury retailer founded by his family. She was given a warm welcome in the city - picked up at the airport in a white Rolls-Royce and feted at a Western-themed party complete with a catwalk featuring cows.

Blind Man Lamont Levels Disarms Robbers And Shoots At Them in Dallas
Though Lamont Levels lost his eyesight 15 years ago, there are some things he can still see. One of them is the pitfalls of falling in with gangs, a path he tries to deter youngsters from through his anti-gang nonprofit organization, Now Eye See Inc. But barely a month ago, he came face-to-face with the scope of his challenge. He was robbed by what he thinks were two teenage members of the gang he co-founded years ago — but not before disarming the robbers and firing a shot in their direction. Levels, who says he was one of eight co-founders of the Dallas Bloods, has been sightless since 2001, when he was shot in the head during a failed drug transaction. Then came the robbery, which happened Aug. 23 as Levels was headed to his South Dallas home after trading large bills for a stash of one-dollar bills, which are easier for him to monitor. First came the blow to the head, so forceful that at first he thought he'd been shot — maybe in reprisal for one of his past transgressions. Then, as he sat crumpled on the ground, one robber held him while the other searched his pockets — and that's when he knew they were only after his money, probably imagining it was a large amount. Their silence told him he knew them. Eventually, he guessed that the one holding him had the gun, so he went for it and fought with the robber, who bit him and eventually had to ask his partner for help. After a struggle, he managed to wrestle the gun away as the two ran off with his money. "As soon as I got the gun, I just turned and fired, 'pow,' and he took off running," Levels told the station. "They say I grazed him." The police, he said, "couldn't believe that a blind guy had disarmed two robbery suspects," he said. He guessed — from their behavior, from the little-known route through which they fled and from the gun, which had a familiar extended clip — that the two were members of the Bloods.

2 Shootings At Dallas Motel, Police in Dallas are investigating two separate shootings at one motel in south Oak Cliff. The incidents happened at an America's Best Value Inn, located in the 4100 block of Preferred Place, near the Southwest Center Mall. The first shooting took place just around 11:00 p.m. Monday night.
In that first shooting, a bullet grazed a man in the head. He was taken to the hospital and released about three hours later. Police said that the victim may have been an innocent bystander. But the second shooting also took place about three hours later, at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The motel's manager walked outside to find cars driving away and a man on the ground.

FRISCO, Texas — In a highly anticipated matchup between two of the Western Conference's hottest teams, the Seattle Sounders grabbed three points and overtook FC Dallas for sole possession of second place after a 1-0 victory at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday.
The win marked the first for Seattle at Pizza Hut Park in three games and gave them an edge in the race for the Supporters' Shield.
The Sounders and No. 10 Mauro Rosales got on the board early after capitalizing on a defensive miscue from Dallas center back Ugo Ihemelu. In the 15th minute, Lamar Neagle — playing in his first league start since late June — collected a poor touch from Ihemelu and kick-started the Sounders counterattack.
After Fredy Montero took the pass from Neagle, he led a streaking Rosales down the right flank, who in turn fired a low shot from 18 yards out to beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The tally was Rosales' fourth of the season and, for Dallas, it was the third-earliest goal they had conceded this year.
Seattle nearly doubled their lead moments later when Jhon Kennedy Hurtado headed past Hartman off a free kick, but the sideline referee whistled the play offside.
Down a goal, Dallas turned on their offensive engine and fired off 11 shots, including Brek Shea's blast from just outside the box that grazed the outside netting. But trouble struck their back line when center back Zach Loyd left with an injury in the 25th minute.
Loyd — filling in for George John, who was serving a one-game suspension — collided with Montero and appeared to injure his right leg in the process. Each team next travels for midweek CONCACAF Champions League games, with Seattle playing Monterrey in Mexico and Dallas playing at BMO Field against Toronto FC.

HE FACTS: Despite the absences of coach Gregg Popovich and injured All-Star Tim Duncan and a scary incident involving Tony Parker, the San Antonio Spurs dumped the Dallas Mavericks for the third straight time this season and extended their winning streak to seven with a 113-107 victory Friday at the American Airlines Center.
Popovich (illness) and Duncan (sore left knee) did not travel to Dallas and the Spurs (35-11) nearly lost another All-Star when Parker suffered two cuts around his left eye while spinning through the lane early in the first quarter. That's the same eye that was injured in a New York City nightclub brawl back in June. He received three stitches and returned to the game midway through the second quarter, finishing with 23 points and 10 assists.
DeJuan Blair added a season-high 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting. Gary Neal scored 18 and Tiago Splitter had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Seven Spurs scored in double figures.
The Mavericks (18-25) have dropped eight of their last 10 meetings with the Spurs, including lopsided losses earlier this season by 38- and 25-point margins. They trailed by as many as 26 points in this one before using an 11-0 run in the final minute to make it look close. Playing on four days of rest, Dallas looked rusty in the first half, shooting 37 percent overall and just 1-for-7 from deep. Rodrigue Beaubois led the Mavs with a season-high 19 points off the bench. Vince Carter added 17 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 15.

He played the final 42 seconds and was charged with a turnover. Baynes has played professionally in Slovenia, Lithuania and Greece since the end of his collegiate career (2005-09).

Dallas
Dallas (/ˈdæləs/) is a major city in the state of Texas and is the largest urban center of the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city proper ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. One of them is the pitfalls of falling in with gangs, a path he tries to deter youngsters from through his anti-gang nonprofit organization, Now Eye See Inc. But barely a month ago, he came face-to-face with the scope of his challenge. He was robbed by what he thinks were two teenage members of the gang he co-founded years ago — but not before disarming the robbers and firing a shot in their direction. Levels, who says he was one of eight co-founders of the Dallas Bloods, has been sightless since 2001, when he was shot in the head during a failed drug transaction. Then came the robbery, which happened Aug. 23 as Levels was headed to his South Dallas home after trading large bills for a stash of one-dollar bills, which are easier for him to monitor. First came the blow to the head, so forceful that at first he thought he'd been shot — maybe in reprisal for one of his past transgressions. Then, as he sat crumpled on the ground, one robber held him while the other searched his pockets — and that's when he knew they were only after his money, probably imagining it was a large amount. Their silence told him he knew them. Eventually, he guessed that the one holding him had the gun, so he went for it and fought with the robber, who bit him and eventually had to ask his partner for help. After a struggle, he managed to wrestle the gun away as the two ran off with his money. "As soon as I got the gun, I just turned and fired, 'pow,' and he took off running," Levels told the station. "They say I grazed him." The police, he said, "couldn't believe that a blind guy had disarmed two robbery suspects," he said. He guessed — from their behavior, from the little-known route through which they fled and from the gun, which had a familiar extended clip — that the two were members of the Bloods. -

2 Shootings At Dallas Motel, Police in Dallas are investigating two separate shootings at one motel in south Oak Cliff. The incidents happened at an America's Best Value Inn, located in the 4100 block of Preferred Place, near the Southwest Center Mall. The first shooting took place just around 11:00 p.m. Monday night. In that first shooting, a bullet grazed a man in the head. He was taken to the hospital and released about three hours later. Police said that the victim may have been an innocent bystander. But the second shooting also took place about three hours later, at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The motel's manager walked outside to find cars driving away and a man on the ground. -

FRISCO, Texas — In a highly anticipated matchup between two of the Western Conference's hottest teams, the Seattle Sounders grabbed three points and overtook FC Dallas for sole possession of second place after a 1-0 victory at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday. The win marked the first for Seattle at Pizza Hut Park in three games and gave them an edge in the race for the Supporters' Shield. The Sounders and No. 10 Mauro Rosales got on the board early after capitalizing on a defensive miscue from Dallas center back Ugo Ihemelu. In the 15th minute, Lamar Neagle — playing in his first league start since late June — collected a poor touch from Ihemelu and kick-started the Sounders counterattack. After Fredy Montero took the pass from Neagle, he led a streaking Rosales down the right flank, who in turn fired a low shot from 18 yards out to beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The tally was Rosales' fourth of the season and, for Dallas, it was the third-earliest goal they had conceded this year. Seattle nearly doubled their lead moments later when Jhon Kennedy Hurtado headed past Hartman off a free kick, but the sideline referee whistled the play offside. HE FACTS: Despite the absences of coach Gregg Popovich and injured All-Star Tim Duncan and a scary incident involving Tony Parker, the San Antonio Spurs dumped the Dallas Mavericks for the third straight time this season and extended their winning streak to seven with a 113-107 victory Friday at the American Airlines Center. Popovich (illness) and Duncan (sore left knee) did not travel to Dallas and the Spurs (35-11) nearly lost another All-Star when Parker suffered two cuts around his left eye while spinning through the lane early in the first quarter. That's the same eye that was injured in a New York City nightclub brawl back in June. He received three stitches and returned to the game midway through the second quarter, finishing with 23 points and 10 assists. DeJuan Blair added a season-high 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting. Gary Neal scored 18 and Tiago Splitter had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Seven Spurs scored in double figures. The Mavericks (18-25) have dropped eight of their last 10 meetings with the Spurs, including lopsided losses earlier this season by 38- and 25-point margins. They trailed by as many as 26 points in this one before using an 11-0 run in the final minute to make it look close. Playing on four days of rest, Dallas looked rusty in the first half, shooting 37 percent overall and just 1-for-7 from deep. Rodrigue Beaubois led the Mavs with a season-high 19 points off the bench. Dallas Zoo's new Somali Wild Asses
Meet Somali wild asses Hani and Qamar, two remarkable new residents at the Dallas Zoo. These beautiful animals with striped legs are both just over a year old. This species lives in isolated pockets in arid areas of Somalia and Ethiopia. But they're critically endangered, with just about 600 left in the wild due to hunting for food and traditional medicine, interbreeding with domestic donkeys, and competition with domestic livestock for grazing areas. Only eight zoos U.S. house them. You'll see them from the Monorail Safari in the Wilds of Africa semi-arid habitat, alongside ostrich, gemsbok and addras. (And here's a fun thing: you can even choose them in someone's honor in our Adopt-An-Animal program!)

2 Shootings At Dallas Motel, Police in Dallas are investigating two separate shootings at one motel in south Oak Cliff. The incidents happened at an America's Best Value Inn, located in the 4100 block of Preferred Place, near the Southwest Center Mall. The first shooting took place just around 11:00 p.m. Monday night. In that first shooting, a bullet grazed a man in the head. He was taken to the hospital and released about three hours later. Police said that the victim may have been an innocent bystander. But the second shooting also took place about three hours later, at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The motel's manager walked outside to find cars driving away and a man on the ground.

Many of the outfits included Native American-inspired prints, with most of the models wearing a single feather in their hair. Denim also made frequent appearances on the runway.
For more than a decade, Lagerfeld has picked a city linked to the fashion house for the theme of the show staged each December to highlight the work of its artisans.
Chanel founder Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel visited in Dallas in 1957 at the invitation of Stanley Marcus, head of Neiman Marcus, the Dallas-based luxury retailer founded by his family. First came the blow to the head, so forceful that at first he thought he'd been shot — maybe in reprisal for one of his past transgressions. Then, as he sat crumpled on the ground, one robber held him while the other searched his pockets — and that's when he knew they were only after his money, probably imagining it was a large amount. Their silence told him he knew them. Eventually, he guessed that the one holding him had the gun, so he went for it and fought with the robber, who bit him and eventually had to ask his partner for help. After a struggle, he managed to wrestle the gun away as the two ran off with his money. "As soon as I got the gun, I just turned and fired, 'pow,' and he took off running," Levels told the station. "They say I grazed him." The police, he said, "couldn't believe that a blind guy had disarmed two robbery suspects," he said. He guessed — from their behavior, from the little-known route through which they fled and from the gun, which had a familiar extended clip — that the two were members of the Bloods.

The Sounders and No. 10 Mauro Rosales got on the board early after capitalizing on a defensive miscue from Dallas center back Ugo Ihemelu. In the 15th minute, Lamar Neagle — playing in his first league start since late June — collected a poor touch from Ihemelu and kick-started the Sounders counterattack.
After Fredy Montero took the pass from Neagle, he led a streaking Rosales down the right flank, who in turn fired a low shot from 18 yards out to beat goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The tally was Rosales' fourth of the season and, for Dallas, it was the third-earliest goal they had conceded this year.
Seattle nearly doubled their lead moments later when Jhon Kennedy Hurtado headed past Hartman off a free kick, but the sideline referee whistled the play offside.

That's the same eye that was injured in a New York City nightclub brawl back in June. He received three stitches and returned to the game midway through the second quarter, finishing with 23 points and 10 assists.
DeJuan Blair added a season-high 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting. Gary Neal scored 18 and Tiago Splitter had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Seven Spurs scored in double figures.
The Mavericks (18-25) have dropped eight of their last 10 meetings with the Spurs, including lopsided losses earlier this season by 38- and 25-point margins. They trailed by as many as 26 points in this one before using an 11-0 run in the final minute to make it look close. Playing on four days of rest, Dallas looked rusty in the first half, shooting 37 percent overall and just 1-for-7 from deep. Rodrigue Beaubois led the Mavs with a season-high 19 points off the bench. Hello Everyone!! It has been so long since I have uploaded a video! I decided to vlog my trip over July 4 weekend and do something different on this channel; therefore here is my very first vlog it is something different and something I have not done before on here! I hope you all enjoy this video during my trip in Dallas, TX! This trip was short but sweet! Here are the things I did while I was there, FYI I stayed at the Le Méridien hotel across from the Galleria Mall. Day One: White Rock Lake Park Shopped at Galleria Mall Dinner at Omi Korean Grill & Bar (ALL YOU CAN EAT Korean BBQ) Hmart (Korean grocery store) Reunion Tower Day Two: Japanese Garden in Fort Worth, TX (about a 35 min drive from Dallas) Shopped at Allen Premium Outlet Mall Thanks for watching!

Large scale developments of urban lofts, apartments, condominiums, retail and both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities are springing up across the city. An impressive new Dallas Center for the Performing Arts opened in 2009 to vie with New York's Lincoln Center. New facilities and relevant attractions in and around this cultural centre continue to grow.
Among things you probably didn't know about Dallas: The city has the largest urban arts district in the United States spanning 19 blocks. What's more, the Dallas Arts District has more buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects in one contiguous location than anywhere else in the world. And Dallas' Fair Park, just a short distance east of the arts district and a district with numerous museums and venues, features the nation's largest collection of 1930s Art Deco, exposition-style architecture.
Dallas offers true Southern hospitality, be it in a humble hideaway cocktail bar or in the Mansion on Turtle Creek, repeatedly and regularly ranked as one of the world's top hotels. And with a 10th of its workforce in the hospitality industry, Dallas is always happy to have y'all come on in and stick around awhile.
Those wishing to explore further afield should take the busy freeway 30 miles to the west to the easy-going, cattle-driving, twin city of Fort Worth, home to a national historic district and a surprising stash of world-class art museums.
The similarities between the two include a stunning rate of business and population growth, in spite of a sluggish recent economy; a shared passion for the pro sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, whose new billion-dollar stadium is now in Tarrant County instead of Dallas; and a great pride in being Texan.

Joe Bev has been producing radio in many genres since 1971 when he was twelve. At 19 in 1980, Bev became the youngest person to produce a radio show for public radio. He co-hosted The Jazz Show with Garret Gega in the early 80s, a four hour a week mix classic jazz and comedy. Bev also worked for WBGO, Jazz 88 in Newark, NJ and produced documentaries for WNYC New York Public Radio on jazz legends including Louis Armstrong, Wynton Marsalis, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Cab Calloway, and Lionel Hampton.
Bev also produces, directs, writes and voices half of The Comedy-O-Rama Hour, which is the highest rated show on CRAGG.
