Karate kid Jayden thumps his way to national title

YOUNG  Jayden has struck victory to become a national karate champion.

Last month, the 10-year-old from Jacana competed at the national championships.

Jayden won the Under-12 heavyweight division after a series of knockout fights. The practitioner of kyokushin karate also won a title at the Arnold Karate Classic in March.

Jayden trains at the Fighting Arts Fitness Centre in Glenroy four to five times a week. He is a fifth kyu, the youngest at his dojo to have achieved this rank, but will have to wait until he turns 16 to qualify for a black belt.

Jayden said in the future, he would like to compete at the world karate championships and at the 2020 Olympics, if karate was included.

Jayden has been nominated as a Hume Leader junior sports star, presented by Sportsmart.
