West Coast Eagles fined for AFL Anti-Doping Code breaches

West Coast Eagles have been fined $5000 by the AFL for two breaches of the league's Anti-Doping Code.

The Eagles were one of seven AFL clubs sanctioned on Wednesday for failing to provide up-to-date player information to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

All clubs have to provide up-to-date information on where their players are so they can be drug-tested on any day of the year, with the AFL finding seven clubs failed to do so.

The Hawks were hit with a $7500 fine for three breaches, Geelong were sanctioned $5000 for two breaches and Collingwood, Essendon, the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda were each fined $2500 for one breach apiece.

All clubs in the AFL are required to keep ASADA notified at all times of the whereabouts of listed players for testing purpose, so they can be tested by WADA for prohibited drugs.

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said clubs needed to ensure all paperwork requirements were met at all times.

"While no tests were missed for players from any of the clubs sanctioned, under the operation of the AFL's code with ASADA, it is the club that is sanctioned for the failure to provide complete up-to-date whereabouts information at all times for testing purposes," an AFL statement read.

"In these cases the failures were found to be administrative in nature and not intentional."

Greater Western Sydney player Lachie Whitfield is currently under investigation by the AFL and ASADA for spending three days at former development manager Craig Lambert's house in an alleged attempt to avoid drug testing.

Last year, Fremantle copped a fine of $5000 for two breaches.
