Heritage Day 2012 : Board Introductions and Guest Speaker, Maxwell LeYang. Maxwell LeYang is our very local educator. He is an alumni of Chapman University where he completed his under graduate in social science and his graduate in education. Currently, he is one of the Hmong instructors at the UofM where he directed the Hmong Language program for over 10 years. Thank you Maxwell, we were very honored to have you. Musical Description: Once upon a time, in a small village called, "Lub Ntiaj Teb Kawg" (The End of the Earth) located in the heart of Laos. The towns people are gathered for their annual Hmong new year celebration. Among the crowd is Niam Nkauj Kub Kaws, a lonely black magic woman and renowned "monster" who is on her quest for companionship. While on her search, she crosses paths with Nuj Nplhaib, who is on a crazed journey to find his beloved girlfriend, Ntxawm, who has been kidnapped by a tiger, Tsov. Little do we realize that Ntxawm and Tsoc have fallen in love with one another despite Tsov's outward appearance and reputation as a monster. In a mad dish to escape her batty boyfriend, the loving couple trek through the jungle to ensure their saftey away from Nuj Nplhaib. The town prince, Siv Nab, is also in attendance at this joyous occasion when he is struck by love at first sight, but too quickly does this mysterious girl, Nkauj Nog, disappear into the crowd. As fate would have it, Nkauj Nog, drops her hanker chef and Siv Nab vows to find his Cinderella and make her his bride. By the end of the celebration Niam Nkauj Kub Kaws caught the eyes of Ntsuag, a selfish orphan turned wealthy man who is bored of his relationship with his wife, Zaug Paj. Slowly but surely, Niam Nkauj Kub Kaws is on her way to having love at last. As all of the stories unfold, each character must face great adversity within themselves and their community in order to find true love and to live happily ever after. But what is true love and how does one find it in the faces of lies, distrust, good, and evil? HMSA proudly presents "Peb Zaj Dab Neeg" a tale that explores and challenges the ideas of love and self.
