About Terrigal

Located in the heart of the New South Wales Central Coast, Terrigal is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the area. With great beaches, and opportunities to fish, swim, surf and waterski, many holidaymakers return to Terrigal year after year. Don’t forget to check out the local Wyrrabalong National Park, the beautiful rural hinterland, or one of Terrigal's most unique attractions - ‘The Skillion’, a narrow strip of headland that rises dramatically to the east, next to the wider, flatter Broken Head.

Terrigal: A Modern Mediterranean Retreat

Ritzy restaurants, endless beaches and scenic lookouts: these are only some of the things that characterise Terrigal holidays. Visitors can choose to spend their days by the ocean, discovering coastal lagoons or walking along an extensive network of trails.

If you’re looking to add some art to your collection, pay a visit to Terrigal’s galleries. For upscale retail therapy, browse the Crowne Plaza Hotel’s boutiques. It is said that Terrigal has a mediterranean vibe to it, perhaps furthered by the swaying pine trees that line the waterfront.

Holiday rentals in Terrigal range from sleek condos to chic homes with ocean views.

Terrigal’s Main Beach

The town of Terrigal is set on the southern end of a long, golden beach. Walk along the 4 km stretch of sand and enjoy the mediterranean climate and ocean breeze.

The patrolled beach is favoured by families, as it offers safe swimming conditions, year-round. As an added bonus, Terrigal Beach features a rockpool, a big hit with the kids.

Watch surfers ride the waves or grab your board and join them! If you’re new to surfing, sign up for lessons at the Central Coast Surf School. Not far from Terrigal’s main beach, the rougher waters of Wamberal and Terrigal Haven attract more experienced surfers.

Exploring Terrigal’s Lagoons

Terrigal has two main lagoons, with their own host of activities for families and nature lovers. Just behind the main beach is Terrigal Lagoon, filling with sea water at high tide. Here, you can go paddle boating or stand-up paddle boating. If you have kids, take them to feed the ducks, or go for a leisurely stroll on the path lining the lagoon.

To the north of town, Wamberal Lagoon is set amidst a nature reserve. This bigger lagoon is surrounded by both coastal and hinterland vegetation and is a haven for numerous bird species. The lagoon’s lesser-known beaches allow visitors to escape Terrigal’s hustle and bustle for a while.

Hikes and Walks around Terrigal

Terrigal’s coastal trails make it easy to discover the area on foot. Start by walking through the Foreshore Reserve, from which you can soak up the main beach’s activity while remaining in the shade.

If you’d like to go for a longer adventure, you can take the 4.5km Glasson’s Trail, which connects Kincumber to Terrigal. The path weaves through forested areas, introducing visitors to local vegetation just beyond the coast. Glasson’s Trail passed through Kincumber Mountain Reserve and leads to scenics lookouts.

For 360 degree views over the open water and the town of Terrigal, hike up to the Skillion, the headland rising up on one side of the main beach.

Restaurants and Retail Therapy in Terrigal

Terrigal offers a variety of eateries, including award-winning establishments and waterfront venues. For your pick of cafes and restaurants, walk along the Esplanade and choose the cuisine you crave.
