You've Got

You've Got is a daily web series from AOL. The series premiered on AOL.com and AOL Video (video.aol.com) on November 1, 2010. It is now found on the AOL On Network (on.aol.com). The show has been described as an "open mic" for the web, presenting interesting personalities to the world, similar to Saturday Night Live's iconic hosted opening segments. The first person featured on the show was Kelly Ripa., followed by President Barack Obama. Other notable guests have included Ellen DeGeneres,Matt Damon,Elmo,Larry King,Will Ferrell,Joan Rivers and Kevin Bacon. The show's name is derived from the iconic welcome message from AOL Mail, "You've Got Mail." New episodes air every morning on AOL.com and AOL On.

AOL has revealed that You've Got generated 8 million views in its first month, putting it on pace with a top 10 web series.

You've Got Mail

You've Got Mail is a 1998 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Nora Ephron, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It was written by Nora and Delia Ephron. The film is about two people in an online romance who are unaware that they are also business rivals. It marks the third coupling of stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who had previously appeared together in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993).

Plot

Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) is involved with Frank Navasky (Greg Kinnear), a leftist postmodernist newspaper writer for The New York Observer who's always in search of an opportunity to root for the underdog. While Frank is devoted to his typewriter, Kathleen prefers her laptop and logging into her AOL email account. There, using the screen name 'Shopgirl', she reads an email from "NY152", the screen name of Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) whom she first met in an "over-30s" chatroom. As her voice narrates her reading of the email, she reveals the boundaries of the online relationship; no specifics, including no names, career or class information, or family connections. Joe belongs to the Fox family which runs Fox Books — a chain of "mega" bookstores similar to Borders or Barnes & Noble. Kathleen, on the other hand, runs the independent bookstore The Shop Around The Corner that her mother ran before her. The two are shown passing each other on their respective ways to work, revealing that they frequent the same neighborhoods in upper west Manhattan. Joe arrives at work, overseeing the opening of a new Fox Books in New York with the help of his best friend, branch manager Kevin (Dave Chappelle). Meanwhile, Kathleen and her three store assistants, George (Steve Zahn), Aunt Birdie (Jean Stapleton), and Christina (Heather Burns) open up her small shop that morning.

Meg Ryan

Margaret Mary Emily Anne Hyra (born November 19, 1961), known professionally as Meg Ryan, is an American actress and film producer. After early roles in films such as Top Gun (1986) and Promised Land (1987), she achieved international recognition for her lead performance in When Harry Met Sally... (1989), which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.

She subsequently established herself as one of the most successful actresses of the 1990s, particularly in romantic comedy films, including Joe Versus The Volcano (1990), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), French Kiss (1995), You've Got Mail (1998) and Kate & Leopold (2001). Her other films include The Doors (1991), When a Man Loves a Woman (1994), Courage Under Fire (1996), City of Angels (1998) and Proof of Life (2000).

Early life

Ryan was born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut. Her mother, Susan Jordan (née Duggan), is a former actress and English teacher, and her father, Harry Hyra, is a math teacher. She has Polish, Irish, and German ancestry. "Hyra" is a Polish surname, and "Ryan" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name. She was raised a Roman Catholic and attended St. Pius X Elementary School in Fairfield. Ryan has two sisters, Dana and Annie, and a brother, the musician Andrew Hyra, a member of the former band Billy Pilgrim. Her parents divorced in 1976, when she was 15 years old.

Tom Hanks

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is an American actor and filmmaker. He is known for his roles in Splash (1984), Big (1988), Philadelphia (1993), Forrest Gump (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Saving Private Ryan, You've Got Mail (both 1998), The Green Mile (1999), Cast Away (2000), The Da Vinci Code (2006), Captain Phillips, and Saving Mr. Banks (both 2013), as well as for his voice work in the animated films The Polar Express (2004) and the Toy Story series.

Hanks has been nominated for numerous awards during his career. He won a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Philadelphia, as well as a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a People's Choice Award for Best Actor for his role in Forrest Gump. In 2004, he received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Hanks is also known for his collaboration with film director Steven Spielberg on Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Terminal (2004), and Bridge of Spies (2015), as well as the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers, which launched Hanks as a successful director, producer, and writer. In 2010, Spielberg and Hanks were executive producers on the HBO miniseries The Pacific (a companion piece to Band of Brothers).

Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron (EHF-rihn; May 19, 1941 – June 26, 2012) was an American journalist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, novelist, producer, director, and blogger.

Ephron is best known for her romantic comedies and was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Writing: for Silkwood, When Harry Met Sally..., and Sleepless in Seattle. She won a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay for When Harry Met Sally.... She sometimes wrote with her sister Delia Ephron. Her last film was Julie & Julia. She also co-authored the Drama Desk Award–winning theatrical production Love, Loss, and What I Wore. In 2013, Ephron received a posthumous Tony Award nomination for Best Play for her play Lucky Guy.

Personal life

Ephron was born in New York City, eldest of four daughters, in a Jewish family, and grew up in Beverly Hills. Her parents, Henry and Phoebe Ephron (née Wolkind), were both East Coast-born and raised screenwriters. Her sisters Delia and Amy are also screenwriters. Her sister Hallie Ephron is a journalist, book reviewer, and novelist who writes crime fiction. Ephron's parents based the ingenue character in the play and film version of Take Her, She's Mine on the 22-year-old Nora and her letters from college. Both her parents became alcoholics during their declining years. Ephron graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1958, and from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in 1962.
