Caulfield Cup runner-up Scottish is a shock withdrawal from the $2 million Emirates Stakes after injuring his near-forleg fetlock in the last 15 hours.
Trainer Charlie Appleby contacted Racing Victoria stewards the moment the problem arose and advised them that the horse would be scratched from Saturday's group 1 event.
However, Appleby said that his Australian tour had reached $800,000 in prizemoney from Scottish's performance in the $3.2 million Caulfield Cup, where he ran second.
Scottish had only managed $1.8 million in two and half years of racing in Europe but at just one race in Australia had secured $800,000.
It will mean that Lloyd Williams the now five-times winner of the Melbourne Cup is poised to win the newly positioned Emirates Stakes with last start winner The United States.
