Awesome day out at Twinlakes Theme Park. Never heard of it before but will definitely be going again. Ideal for younger kids especially my 3 & 6 year old. Lots of rides, play areas, animals and water parks!

Richard Louis Proenneke (1916-2003), known as Dick, has become an icon of wilderness living in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Born in Iowa, he worked as a farmhand and rancher before joining the Navy the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After receiving a medical discharge in 1945 (following a bout of rheumatic fever), he again took up ranching. In 1949, he made his first visit to Alaska at the invitation of a friend. He lived and worked in Alaska off and on for years, making his first visit to Twin Lakes in 1962. By 1967, he had begun work on a cabin there. It was completed in 1968.
His was not the first cabin on Twin Lakes, nor was it the biggest. Proenneke's cabin, though, stands out for its remarkable craftsmanship, which reflects his unshakeable wilderness ethic. The cabin was built using only hand tools, many of which Proenneke himself had fashioned. Throughout the thirty years he lived at the cabin, Proenneke created homemade furniture and implements that reflect his woodworking genius.

For the past 45 years, Twin Lakes has shown the love of Jesus Christ to campers from a variety of backgrounds through purposeful relationship development in a loving environment. Narratives, straight from the Bible, serve as the theme of the week, like the life of the apostle Paul and our study on "Grace through Faith" from Ephesians, chapter 2 during summer 2015.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep12. Sibulan is 6km, 20mins drive from Dumaguete, province Negros Oriental. Lake Balinsasayao is located 12 km west of the town of Sibulan, and is one of two small but deep crater lakes rising 300m above sea level. The other Lake Danao, is situated on the southeast. Hence the name Twin Lakes.

The Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao is popular for swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, bike riding, and kayaking. We took a small boat to the other side to see the other lake. Entry fee was P100 for foreigners; P10 for locals. 10 times the difference!!! I would not usually support price gouging or taking advantage of foreigners. But I had already hired a van, and only discovered this on arrival. So wanted to document it for the subscribers and viewers.
Azalea Restaurant, Cambaloctot, San Jose, 6202 Negros Oriental. Azalea's is 19 kms north of Dumaguete, on a mountain slope overlooking a ravine. Great food and view. It's on the way to Twin Lakes.
Some people may be interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit first, and explore the areas you are interested in before making any big moves. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

Twin Lakes (Alaska)
Twin Lakes is a complex of two large lakes in Lake Clark National Park in the U.S. state of Alaska near the northeast corner of Lake and Peninsula Borough. It contains a 6-mile long (9.7 km) upper lake and a smaller 4-mile long (6.5 km) lower lake, joined by a short connecting stream. The lakes outflow westward into the Chilikadrotna River (and eventually into the Mulchatna and Nushagak Rivers and Nushagak Bay). It is quite remote and unpopulated, except in the late summer as it is a popular hunting spot.
The lake complex was the retirement home of amateur naturalist Richard Proenneke (1916–2003), who spent most (1968–1998) of the last 30 years of his life living there in a log cabin he built by hand. (See One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey and Alone in the Wilderness).

Lake Balinsasayao is located 12 km west of the town of Sibulan, and is one of two small but deep crater lakes rising 300m above sea level. The other Lake Danao, is situated on the southeast. Richard Louis Proenneke (1916-2003), known as Dick, has become an icon of wilderness living in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Born in Iowa, he worked as a farmhand and rancher before joining the Navy the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After receiving a medical discharge in 1945 (following a bout of rheumatic fever), he again took up ranching. In 1949, he made his first visit to Alaska at the invitation of a friend. He lived and worked in Alaska off and on for years, making his first visit to Twin Lakes in 1962. By 1967, he had begun work on a cabin there. It was completed in 1968.
His was not the first cabin on Twin Lakes, nor was it the biggest. Proenneke's cabin, though, stands out for its remarkable craftsmanship, which reflects his unshakeable wilderness ethic. The cabin was built using only hand tools, many of which Proenneke himself had fashioned. Throughout the thirty years he lived at the cabin, Proenneke created homemade furniture and implements that reflect his woodworking genius.

But I had already hired a van, and only discovered this on arrival. So wanted to document it for the subscribers and viewers.
Azalea Restaurant, Cambaloctot, San Jose, 6202 Negros Oriental. Azalea's is 19 kms north of Dumaguete, on a mountain slope overlooking a ravine. Great food and view. It's on the way to Twin Lakes.
Some people may be interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit first, and explore the areas you are interested in before making any big moves. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

Alaska-Chili River Fish & Float
Flew out of Anchorage, Alaska in a small 4 seater bush plane. We began on Twin Lakes, in the Lake Clark National Park, and floated down the Chilikadrotna River and then the Mulchatna River, 97 miles to Maribou Landing, through the Alaska Range mountains. 5 days of floating and fishing with the brother and pops. Amazing time in an amazing place.

OUR STORY SO FAR:
We are Cory & Kristen Williams and in August 2014 we made the long drive from Southern California to Alaska to move into our new home in Eagle River. Here we’ve had the chance to explore Alaska, experience lots of wild events, meet lots of great people and endure the extreme temperatures that the north is known for. On December 20th, 2014 we got engaged after our Polar Plunge under the Northern Lights then later married by our favorite lake on May 23rd, 2015. Then on June 23rd, 2016 we had our first child. A baby girl named Chell.

This was my first attempt at using my GoPro helmet camera. The date was Tuesday, September 27th, Summit Mountain Biker's annual ride around Twin Lakes near Leadville. On this ride I tried out my new (Maiden Voyage) GoPro helmet camera. I learned a great deal from this venture but mainly not to have the camera pointing or aiming in the same direction as my eyes which were scanning the 10 to 15 feet in front of my front wheel. I believe I had taken that into consideration before I asked Steve Laden to verify if the camera angle looked correct. Apparently, he tried to help and adjusted the camera down more parallel to my vision. I learned that this would not produce the best camera angle to capture my fellow riders and the scenery in front and around me. I am only going to leave this ...

The date was Tuesday, September 27th, Summit Mountain Biker's annual ride around Twin Lakes near Leadville. On this ride I tried out my new (Maiden Voyage) GoPro helmet camera. I learned a great deal from this venture but mainly not to have the camera pointing or aiming in the same direction as my eyes which were scanning the 10 to 15 feet in front of my front wheel. I believe I had taken that into consideration before I asked Steve Laden to verify if the camera angle looked correct. Apparently, he tried to help and adjusted the camera down more parallel to my vision. I learned that this would not produce the best camera angle to capture my fellow riders and the scenery in front and around me.
I am only going to leave this on the UTube site till approximately January 1st because it came out so poorly and a few of the people who saw an earlier downloaded version gave it a thumbs down.
I am really sorry I didn't get the correct camera angle. For best results watch it on a big screen TV (with an HDMI attachment wire from your computer). or watch it on your computer full screen.
Make sure to play the video at 1080p (next to the full screen tab).
