In geography, temperate or tepid latitudes of Earth lie between the tropics and the polar regions. The temperatures in these regions are generally relatively moderate, rather than extremely hot or cold, and the changes between summer and winter are also usually moderate.
However, in certain areas, such as Asia and central North America, the variations between summer and winter can be extreme because these areas are far away from the sea, causing them to have a continental climate. In regions traditionally considered tropical, localities at high altitudes (e.g. parts of the Andes) may have a temperate climate.
The north temperate zone extends from the Tropic of Cancer (approximately 23.5° north latitude) to the Arctic Circle (approximately 66.5° north latitude). The south temperate zone extends from the Tropic of Capricorn (approximately 23.5° south latitude) to the Antarctic Circle (at approximately 66.5° south latitude). The cooler or warmer parts of the temperate zone may be referred to as 'subtemperate'.
Have you ever wondered why some part of the world is a desert and some parts have a lot of rainforests. In some parts, there is always winter whereas in some parts it is always hot. In this animation video for kids, all different factors that affect the climate of different parts of the world are clearly explained.Definition and causes of the earth having different climate zones can be very well understood.

From a bare field to a staggeringly productive and beautiful food forest in just a few years, full of benefical insects, amphibians, birds and mammals. This is a story of natural regeneration at its best. Maddy and Tim Harland, founders of Permaculture magazine, share how they created their temperate forest garden over 20 years ago in the South Downs National Park in Hampshire, England. They explain the planning and planting, the experiments to find what plants grow well in their chalky soil and how they created a wildflower meadow to heal the barren soil that had been mined by industrial farming practices. Maddy and Tim grow over 20 varieties of apples, along with pears, medlar, peach under glass and outside, walnut, cobnuts, mulberries, Nepalese and Szechuan peppers, Juneberry, figs, ...

Temperate forests grow between the tropics and the polar regions in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. They have four distinct seasons with a well-defined winter. Temperate forests have a moderate climate. They are home to many plant and animal species. Much of the food humans eat is grown in areas where temperate forests have been cleared and farms now exist. If you don't live in the tropics, chances are a temperate forest once was growing where you are right now. Temperate forests are also where many of our favorite foods first came from. Walnuts, apples, mushrooms, and maple sugar are all foods of the temperate forest.
