The client wanted a better way to handle their global procurement contract review and negotiation. They wanted improved efficiency and budget predictability and their in-house team to focus on the most strategic, high-level transactions.

Solution
Working as a managed service provider in partnership with another law firm, contract attorneys, and an LPO, we reengineered their processes and built an intake system that provides centralized contract management, distribution of work to outside counsel, and automated notices to track matter status. Data analytics identify opportunities for improvement to the system, and provide actionable business intelligence to the client.

Outcomes
Using our managed service, the client saved 18% in the first year, went from having over a dozen different outside counsel to a single point of contact, and has data showing everything from their contract volumes and types, to the most negotiated provisions in their contract templates.

Opportunity
In-house employment counsel believed a certain workgroup was generating much more than its share of claims, driving up costs.

Solution
We compiled data on five years of matters, billings, and settlements. Comparing that data with a breakdown of the client’s workforce, we showed that one workgroup, despite making up only 3% of the client’s workforce, had generated more than a quarter of its legal fees and settlements – more than eight times the expected amount.

Outcomes
Using the data we provided, the in-house lawyer was able to make the case for additional training for the workgroup in question, and with continued monitoring, watch the number of claims go down. We also designed a more efficient and cost-effective way for the client to handle these claims and ensure compliance.

Opportunity
The in-house legal team needed to collect and communicate complex regulatory information, across 30 regulations and 29 countries, in a way that would allow the business stakeholders to quickly grasp risk and make decisions about new product offerings.

Solution
Using project management and data analytics, we efficiently gathered the necessary regulatory information from local counsel in 29 countries, which we turned into a visual and interactive heat map. The map showcases risk by color and allows the user to click in for more information on each regulation. A drop down menu allows the user to home in on the specific regulation of interest.

Outcome
The global legal team uses the tool as a first stop when considering doing deal work in any of the 29 jurisdictions. They know where to prioritize their time and can quickly get a snapshot of the situation before digging deeper.

Solution
A secure financial dashboard that offers clients real-time access to fee information, budgets, legal documents, timekeeper profiles, and shared calendars for deadlines and milestones. The tool provides reporting functionality that empowers clients to estimate future legal spend.

DWT clients now have a hassle-free, one-stop solution for access to the important information they need in real time, creating an even more seamless partnership between our team and theirs.

Opportunity
The company needed to review 7,000 contracts for specific legal restrictions that could affect an important strategic business initiative. The review needed to be completed in four days, with a very specific output format.

Solution
DWT De Novo deployed an alternative staffing model that included a team of lower-cost reviewers, a trained project manager, and a senior transactional lawyer to oversee the project. Using document review technology, a secure extranet, training protocols, and quality control measures, the team was able to produce the document the client needed, on time, within scope, and within budget. The cost to the client was less than one-third what it would have been using traditional resources.

Outcome
The client now has a searchable database identifying all target contract provisions in a format that can be used to guide business decisions.
