About Emmeline Ravilious

Emmeline Ravilious was born in Brighton and went to school at St. Bede’s Independent School, near Hailsham, East Sussex. She taught water-sports in Greece briefly before moving to Japan to work as a volunteer for the Leonard Cheshire Foundation, it is where she learnt Japanese, which she returned to the UK to study, graduating in Japanese and Japanese Studies. Upon graduation she moved to Italy before embarking upon a career in journalism which saw her take posts as a correspondent for Reuters and TV Asahi, in Tokyo. Later joining the world desk of the Financial Times/FT.com, which took her to New York City as world news editor for three years. Emmeline left the FT five years after returning to London and moved down to Lewes, Sussex, where she did freelance work for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, The Telegraph, Sunday Times and others. She now works as a senior community publisher for Northcliffe Media and is joint Editor in Chief of the London Progressive Journal.

In her spare time Emmeline enjoys open water swimming, Lewes Community Football Club, Bonfire, music of most genres, reading, keeping chickens and ducks, and is (supposed to be) training for a trialthlon.

She speaks Italian and Japanese, bad French, German, Spanish, Cantonese and Greek.
