George Archainbaud
George Archainbaud (May 7, 1890 – February 20, 1959) was a French-born American film and television director.
Biography
In the beginning of his career he worked on stage as an actor and manager. He came to the United States in 1915, and started his film career as an assistant director to Emile Chautard at the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1917 he made his own directorial debut As Man Made Her. During the next three and a half decades he directed over one hundred films. After the beginning of the 1950s he moved to television.
While working at the RKO in the beginning of the 1930s, he showed some artistic and skillful eye with many of his films. The finest examples include Thirteen Women (1932) and The Lost Squadron (1932). Especially the latter is a memorable thriller about Hollywood stunt flyers, who risk their lives under the direction of monstrous Erich von Stroheim.
Although Archainbaud directed films of all genres, he is nowadays mainly linked with westerns. In fact, it was not until the last decade of his directorial career until he specialized in them. With the producer Harry Sherman he made several Hopalong Cassidy oaters. Later he was also one of the principal directors of Gene Autry's Flying A Productions, at which he made several episodes for such weekly television series as Buffalo Bill Jr., Annie Oakley and The Adventures of Champion (TV series).

Erich von Stroheim
Erich von Stroheim (September 22, 1885 – May 12, 1957) was an Austrian-American director, actor and producer, most notable as being a film star of the silent era, subsequently noted as an auteur for his directorial work.
Background
Stroheim was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1885 as Erich Oswald Stroheim, the son of Benno Stroheim, a middle-class hat-maker, and Johanna Bondy, both of whom were observant Jews.
Stroheim emigrated to America at the end of 1909. On arrival at Ellis Island, he claimed to be Count Erich Oswald Hans Carl Maria von Stroheim und Nordenwall, the son of Austrian nobility like the characters he played in his films, but both Billy Wilder and Stroheim's agent Paul Kohner claimed that he spoke with a decidedly lower-class Austrian accent. Jean Renoir writes in his memoirs: “Stroheim spoke hardly any German. He had to study his lines like a schoolboy learning a foreign language.” Later, while living in Europe, Stroheim claimed in published remarks to have "forgotten" his native tongue. In Renoir's movie la Grande Illusion, Stroheim speaks German with a strong American accent.

All major movie sites, including IMDB and Silent Era, as well as Wikipedia, cite the title as "The Wonderful Chance", which is wrong. As you can see from the film itself, the correct title is "His Wonderful Chance".
After serving a term in prison an ex con is determined to change his ways and go straight, but circumstances put this determination to severe test.
Eugene O'Brien plays two roles - an English nobleman and an ex con. Martha Mansfield delivers a very pleasing and convincing performance as the love interest of 'Swagger' Barlow.
