'The Simpsons' renews for two more seasons, putting TV record within reach
By Michael Cavna
The Simpsons director/producer David Silverman said last month of the show's long run: "We don't want it to end."
Now, The Simpsons is scheduled to break the record for the longest-running prime-time scripted series in TV history.
Fox has renewed the show - now in its 28th season - for two more of them, meaning that the legendary animated series would break the Western drama Gunsmoke's record of 635 episodes in Season 30.
"Take that Gunsmoke! You lost a race you didn't even know you were running!" Homer Simpson said in Friday in a statement.
As a Fox series, The Simpsons debuted in 1989, launched by producers Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and the late Sam Simon.
