George Osborne (born Gideon Oliver Osborne; 23 May 1971) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been Chancellor of the Exchequer since 2010 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatton since 2001.
Osborne worked for The Daily Telegraph before joining the Conservative Research Department and becoming head of its political section. He was a special adviser to Douglas Hogg at the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and worked at 10 Downing Street as well as for Prime Minister John Major's campaign team in the party's unsuccessful 1997 general election campaign before becoming a speechwriter and political secretary to Major's successor as party leader, William Hague.
In 2001, Osborne was elected as MP for Tatton, becoming the youngest Conservative MP in the House of Commons. He was appointed Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury by Conservative leader Michael Howard in 2004. In 2005, he ran David Cameron's successful leadership campaign. Cameron appointed Osborne Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and, after the 2010 general election, Chancellor in the Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition government.

Plot: The British Empire flowers; exotic India colors English imaginations. Becky Sharp, the orphaned daughter of a painter and a singer, leaves a home for girls to be a governess, armed with pluck, a keen wit, good looks, fluent French, and an eye for social advancement. Society tries its best to keep her from climbing. An episodic narrative follows her for 20 years, through marriage, Napoleonic wars, a child, loyalty to a school friend, the vicissitudes of the family whose daughters she instructed, and attention from a bored marquess who collected her father's paintings. Honesty tempers her schemes. No aristocrat she, nor bourgeois, just spirited, intelligent, and irrepressible.

Plot: Set against the background of the Battle of Waterloo, Becky Sharp is the story of Vanity Fair by Thackeray. Becky and Amelia are girls at school together, but Becky is from a "show biz" family, or in other words, very low class. Becky manages to insinuate herself in Amelia's family and gets to know all their friends. From this possibly auspicious- beginning, she manages to ruin her own life, becoming sick, broke, and lonely, and also ruins the lives of many other "loved ones". In the movie we get to see the class distinctions in England at the time, and get a sense of what it was like for the English military at the time of the Napoleonic wars.

Britain must expand Heathrow, a "great airport" which connects the UK to global trade, George Osborne has said. The economic case is "overwhelming" and the airport connects to the Northern Powerhouse, the former chancellor said. Gatwick expansion could be considered, but it must not be at the expense of the west London airport, he tweeted. A decision on which London airport should build a new runway is thought to be imminent, after years of argument and a delay because of the Brexit vote. Three plans have been in contention - a third runway at Heathrow; a new runway at Gatwick; and an extension to one of Heathrow's existing runways - as part a review of extra capacity by 2030. Mr Osborne, who is MP for Tatton in Cheshire, said he was clear which one had most merit. "Time for a decision on ...
David Cameron & George Osborne's continual message in the EU Referendum, was that "we need to vote Remain to stay in the Single Market" & that a "vote to Leave was a vote to leave the Single Market". This argument lost. To stay in the Single Market, means Leave would break their fundamental promise to "Take Back Control" of Laws & Borders. George Osborne today dismissed claims his industrial policy has been torn up by new Prime Minister Theresa May. Mrs May's declaration that her administration will pursue a 'proper industrial strategy' was widely seen as an effort to distance herself from the ex-Chancellor's legacy. And her insistence that Government support must be spread around the country was regarded as undermining Mr Osborn'e Northern Powerhouse project. But Mr Osborne told a committee of MPs that he saw a great deal of 'continuity' between the industrial strategy of David Cameron's regime and that being developed by Mrs May. 'Whenever you get new politicians in post, they always want to announce new things,' Mr Osborne told the House of Commons Business Committee. 'Broadly, the approach I can see them pursuing in ene...

George Osborne is to write a book which will explore the background to the "crisis in democracy and capitalism". The former chancellor left government in July and said last month that it was too early to write his memoirs as he did not know "where his story ends". Instead, he will pen a book entitled the Age of Unreason, examining the rise of "populist nationalism" embodied by Donald Trump's US presidential bid. Ed Balls, Nick Clegg and Ken Clarke have all recently released memoirs. Despite losing his job as chancellor after Theresa May became prime minister, Mr Osborne has said he will remain in politics to fight for the values he believes in and will contest the next election. Announcing the project, which will take a year, Mr Osborne called for the forces of free markets and open s...
