Haiti (i/ˈheɪti/; French: Haïti [a.iti]; Haitian Creole: Ayiti [ajiti]), officially the Republic of Haiti (French: République d'Haïti; Haitian Creole: Repiblik Ayiti), is a country in the western hemisphere, and is located on the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean. It occupies the western three-eighths of the island which it shares with the Dominican Republic. Haiti is 27,750 square kilometres (10,714 sq mi) in size and has an estimated 10.6 million people, making it the most populous country in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the third-most populous country in the Caribbean as a whole.
Originally inhabited by the indigenous Taíno people, Europeans first became aware of the island on December 5, 1492 during the first voyage of Christopher Columbus across the Atlantic. When Columbus first landed in Haiti, he had thought he had found India or Asia. Deciding to establish the first settlement in the area, a contingent of men were left at an outpost christened La Navidad because of the wreck to their sunken flagship, the Santa Maria, that occurred at Christmas, north of what is now Limonade. The island was named Hispaniola and claimed by Spain, which ruled until the early 17th century. Competing claims and settlements by the French led to the western portion of the island being ceded to France, which named it Saint-Domingue. The development of sugarcane plantations, worked by slaves brought from Africa, led to the colony being among the most lucrative in the world.

On the two-year anniversary of the massive 2010 earthquake in Haiti, 500,000 people are still officially displaced and access to health care is nearly non-existent. As part of the largest intervention in the organization's 40-year history, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) operates several emergency healthcare structures in Haiti, offering surgery, obstetric care, physiotherapy, and more.

Once a major tourist destination in the 70's, after wars, epidemics, and dictatorships, Haiti fell off the vacation map. It's still on the State Department's travel warning list, but the Haitian government says it's safe and fun for Americans to visit. Vocativ went to Haiti and talked to the minister of tourism, tour guides, police, to explore what a vacation in Haiti would look like.
Haiti's Minimum wage is 225 gourdes which is $5 a day, YES a DAY, this is just greed. What justify these fees. Who is truly benefiting? If you haven't please watch the first video http://youtu.be/73ipilGinNA Many people are wondering why I made this video. I actually think the video speaks for itself. I've done research among the Haitian community for the past 8 years through conversation; why is it that they don't visit Haiti more often? You need to have money to go to Haiti, Ayiti twò chè. I've even read articles saying the same thing. Yes, I used my family as an example because it was more realistic, however this is what the diaspora goes through . Haiti's minimum wage is 0.61 cent an hour how are the people benefiting with this inflation. Haiti does have a lot to offer but we can...

Haiti Travel Video Guide: Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Tourists who are unsettled by grinding poverty probably should visit elsewhere. However, for those with patience and an open mind, Haiti reveals a rich culture that is unique among post-colonial nations. It is extremely helpful when traveling in Haiti to have a local contact, through a church, a hotel, or just through making friends with someone. Experiences like dining locally, riding on a tap-tap, or strolling through one of the insanely crowded outdoor markets are great fun and very worth doing but are much safer and easier if you have a trusted Haitian to go along as a guide and interpreter. Haiti Travel - Haiti officially the Republic of Haiti is a Caribbean country. Along with the Dominican Republic, it occupies the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antillean archipelago. In southern Haiti, trunks of uprooted trees still litter fields and beaches as if Hurricane Matthew blew through and left its trail of death and destruction only yesterday. If it weren't for the blue plastic tarps that now cover damaged homes, the scene one month after the storm would be practically identical to the days following the October 4 landfall. Among the felled coconut trees, a single plastic tarp offers little protection from the elements for Jean Robert Sima and his 92-year-old father, who rests on a mattress.

Why is the US Embassy in Haiti the largest US embassy in the Western Hemisphere and the 4th largest in the world? Why is a country with oil reserves that dwarf Venezuela and estimated natural resources of $10 Trillion ($10M per Haitian) one of the poorest countries in the world? Globalist crony capitalism. David Knight talks to Èzili Dantò, a human rights lawyer and President of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network who reveals that Bill Clinton avoided a lawsuit against him for the plunder of charitable funds by asserting diplomatic immunity as a UN “Special Envoy”. Dantò breaks down the exploitation of Haiti by the Clintons and their corporate cronies using the UN as an occupation force and the mainstream media as a smokescreen. The violent overthrow of Haiti’s President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1991 and 2004 coups has ripped aside the democratic pretensions of US and the other major powers. In 1990, Haiti -the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere- brought to power Aristide, its first elected president. In September 1991, Jean-Bertrand Aristide was deposed in a bloody military coup orchestrated by the US. He was eventually returned to power by US intervention, only to be overthrown yet again in 2004. This Press TV production is a chronicle of US destabilization campaign in Haiti and brings us up to today, 11 years on from the coup. It reveals how behind the scenes the world’s imperial powers still use cunning mechanisms to keep Haiti in their pockets and impede its national sovereignty and democracy. Don...

Haiti, mon pays
Wounded mother I'll never see
Ma famille, set me free
Throw my ashes into the sea
Mes cousins jamais nes
Hantent les nuits de Duvalier
Rien n'arrete nos espirits
Guns can't kill what soldiers can't see
In the forest we are hiding
Unmarked graves where flowers grow
Hear the soldiers angry yelling
In the river we will go
Tous les morts-nes forment une armee
Soon we will reclaim the earth
All the tears and all the bodies
Bring about our second birth
Haiti, never free
N'aie pas peur de sonner l'alarme
Tes enfants sont partis
