Rotterdam may crown itself as the best European city of 2015. The award was given by the international Academy of Urbanism from London. As a Rotterdam resident I couldn’t be more proud! I decided to shoot a dedicated aerial video and show you the best highlights Rotterdam has to offer.
Everything was shot on a DJI Phantom 2 with the GoPro Hero 3, edited in Aobe Premiere Pro. Song that was used for this video: Derrick Stembridge Always Watching You. Courtesy of musicdirector.nl

Roald Groeneveld uit Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk dacht een paar oude filmpjes van Rotterdam op zolder te hebben liggen, maar vond tot zijn eigen verbazing urenlang materiaal.De beelden zijn gemaakt door zijn oma die in Rotterdam woonde. Zij had bijna altijd de camera bij de hand en schoot rond de jaren dertig talloze, gouden beelden van de stad.Op de beelden staan vakanties en persoonlijke gebeurtenissen, maar ook het straatbeeld van Rotterdam zoals het was voor het bombardement in 1940. "We hebben het nu over verkeersdrukte, maar toen konden ze er ook wat van", constateert Groeneveld.Hij ging een tijdje terug op zoek naar de beelden. Hij wist dat ergens een doos stond, maar waar? Tijdens het opruimen vond hij de filmpjes. Hij was verbaasd door het enorme hoeveelheid materiaal er lag. "Ik gok dat er vijf, zes, zeven uur oud filmmateriaal boven water is gekomen."Roald heeft de beelden gedigitaliseerd en een deel daarvan op YouTube gezet. "Ik vind het zonde als het verloren zou gaan op een warme zolder."

Rotterdam
Rotterdam (/ˈrɒtərdæm/ or /ˌrɒtərˈdæm/;Dutch: [ˌrɔtərˈdɑm]) is a city in South Holland, the Netherlands, located geographically within the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt river delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270 when a dam was constructed in the Rotte river and people settled around it for safety. In 1340 Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland and slowly grew into a major logistic and economic centre. Nowadays it is home to Europe's largest port and has a population of 624,799 (2014, city proper), ranking second in the Netherlands. The Greater Rijnmond area is home to approximately 1.4 million people and the Rotterdam The Hague urban area makes for the 168th most populous urban area in the world. Rotterdam is part of the yet larger Randstad conurbation with a total population of 7,100,000.
The city of Rotterdam is known for the Erasmus University, riverside setting, lively cultural life and its maritime heritage. The near-complete destruction of Rotterdam's city centre during World War II (known as the Rotterdam Blitz) has resulted in a varied architectural landscape including sky-scrapers, which are an uncommon sight in other Dutch cities. Rotterdam is home to some world-famous architecture from renowned architects like Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom, Ben van Berkel and others. Recently Rotterdam was listed 8th in The Rough Guide Top 10 Cities to Visit and was voted 2015 European City of the Year by the Academy of Urbanism.

The Netherlands (
i/ˈnɛðərləndz/; Dutch: Nederland [ˈneːdərˌlɑnt]) is the main "constituent country" (Dutch: land) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a small, densely populated country located in Western Europe with three island territories in the Caribbean. The European part of the Netherlands borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and the North Sea to the northwest, sharing maritime borders with Belgium, the United Kingdom and Germany. The largest and most important cities in the Netherlands are Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. Amsterdam is the country's capital, while The Hague holds the Dutch seat of government and parliament. The port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe – as large as the next three largest combined – and was the world's largest port between 1962 and 2004. The name Holland is also frequently used to informally refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands.
"Netherlands" literally means "lower countries", influenced by its low land and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level. Most of the areas below sea level are man-made. Since the late 16th century, large areas (polders) have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, amounting to nearly 17% of the country's current land mass.

Roald Groeneveld uit Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk dacht een paar oude filmpjes van Rotterdam op zolder te hebben liggen, maar vond tot zijn eigen verbazing urenlang materiaal.De beelden zijn gemaakt door zijn oma die in Rotterdam woonde. Zij had bijna altijd de camera bij de hand en schoot rond de jaren dertig talloze, gouden beelden van de stad.Op de beelden staan vakanties en persoonlijke gebeurtenissen, maar ook het straatbeeld van Rotterdam zoals het was voor het bombardement in 1940. "We hebben het nu over verkeersdrukte, maar toen konden ze er ook wat van", constateert Groeneveld.Hij ging een tijdje terug op zoek naar de beelden. Hij wist dat ergens een doos stond, maar waar? Tijdens het opruimen vond hij de filmpjes. Hij was verbaasd door het enorme hoeveelheid materiaal er lag. "Ik gok dat er vijf, zes, zeven uur oud filmmateriaal boven water is gekomen."Roald heeft de beelden gedigitaliseerd en een deel daarvan op YouTube gezet. "Ik vind het zonde als het verloren zou gaan op een warme zolder."
