HMCS Montreal is one of 12 Canadian-built Halifax-class multi-role patrol frigates that serve as the workhorses of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). They can deploy anywhere in the world – either independently or alongside our NATO partners and other allied nations. The class is currently undergoing a planned mid-life modernization (Halifax Class Modernization / Frigate Equipment Life Extension – HCM / FELEX) that includes upgraded command and control systems, radars, electronic warfare systems, communications and missiles. Through HCM / FELEX these 12 frigates will continue to play an important role as the cornerstone of Canada’s maritime forces well into the foreseeable future.
A Long Beginning shows highlights of making HMCS VICTORIA "in all respects ready" for sea in late 2011 and 2012, culminating in her successful SINKEX at RIMPAC12. The CO shares the challenges faced by his boat and her crew along the way -- and their accomplishments.

HMCS Bonaventure (CVL 22) was a Majestic class aircraft carrier. She served in the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Forces Maritime Command from 1957 to 1970 and was the third and the last aircraft carrier to serve Canada. The ship was laid down for the British Royal Navy as HMS Powerful in November 1943. At the end of World War II, work on the ship was suspended in 1946. At the time of purchase, it was decided to incorporate new aircraft carrier technologies into the design. Bonaventure never saw action during her career having only peripheral, non-combat roles. The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) employs Evolved SeaSparrow Missile Systems as the main above-water warfare defence capability on the Halifax-class frigates.

After years of preparation and cleaning and with help of shape charges the decommissioned vessel embarked on its final voyage to the bottom of Halkett Bay to become an artificial reef. Divers as well as research will over the years witness life return to the bays desolate sea floor caused by years of log booming.

This short clip is of the HMCS Charlottetown on February 7, 2012. The video is taken from inside the bridge during a semi-rough day at sea.
During this particular deployment we were gome from our home port of Halifax for a total of 8.5 months. We worked with many other ships in what is known as Task Group 150.
Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150) is one of three flotillas operating in the waters of the Middle East and southwest Asia, and off the Horn of Africa, under the command and control of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), the 26-nation naval coalition that promotes security and stability in the international waters of the Middle East.

HMCS Magnificent (CVL 21) was a Majestic-class light aircraft carrier that served the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946--1956. The third ship of the Majestic class, Magnificent was built by Harland and Wolff, laid down 29 July 1943 and launched 16 November 1944. Royal Canadian Navy Submarine HMCS Victoria Torpedo Trials
Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Victoria conducts a series of weapon system trials at sea including multiple firings of the exercise version of the MK48 Heavyweight Torpedo at Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental Test Ranges (CFMETR) in Nanoose Bay, B.C. on March 13, 2012. These trials are an important milestone for the Victoria-class Submarine Program as Victoria is the first submarine in the fleet to fire the reusable exercise version of the MK48 Heavyweight Torpedo. Further weapon system trials are scheduled for the spring of 2012. HMCS Warrior (R31) - Colossus Class Light Aircraft Carrier
HMS Warrior (R31) was a Colossus-class light aircraft carrier which served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946 to 1948 (as HMCS Warrior)...She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy, commissioned as HMCS Warrior and placed under the command of Captain Frank Houghton. She entered Halifax harbour on 31 March 1946, a week after leaving Portsmouth. She was escorted by the destroyer HMCS Micmac and the minesweeper HMCS Middlesex. The RCN experienced problems with the unheated equipment during operations in cold North Atlantic waters off eastern Canada during 1947. This short clip is of the HMCS Charlottetown on February 7, 2012. The video is taken from inside the bridge during a semi-rough day at sea.
During this particular deployment we were gome from our home port of Halifax for a total of 8.5 months. We worked with many other ships in what is known as Task Group 150.
Combined Task Force 150 (CTF-150) is one of three flotillas operating in the waters of the Middle East and southwest Asia, and off the Horn of Africa, under the command and control of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), the 26-nation naval coalition that promotes security and stability in the international waters of the Middle East.
Please have a look at my other videos of the Seaking Helicopter and all the evolutions we conduct while we are detached from our home unit and aboard HMCS ships. I'm sure you'll find it amazing! I have also posted other videos of the ship in action while deployed.

HMS Warrior (R31) was a Colossus-class light aircraft carrier which served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946 to 1948 (as HMCS Warrior)...She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy, commissioned as HMCS Warrior and placed under the command of Captain Frank Houghton. She entered Halifax harbour on 31 March 1946, a week after leaving Portsmouth. She was escorted by the destroyer HMCS Micmac and the minesweeper HMCS Middlesex. The RCN experienced problems with the unheated equipment during operations in cold North Atlantic waters off eastern Canada during 1947. The RCN deemed her unfit for service and, rather than retrofit her with equipment heaters, made arrangements with the Royal Navy to trade her for a more suitable aircraft carrier of the Majestic class which became HMCS Magnificent (CVL 21) on commissioning. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMCS_Warrior

Strübing surfaced, and the crew abandoned ship, 31 were rescued by HMCS “Thetford Mines” (2 died later) and 18 men including the commander died in the water. (source). Innes McCartney discovered the wreck in 2001. OK – this gallery will feature a Type VIIC/41 U-boat which was scuttled after a collision with the Corvette HMCS New Glasgow in March 1945 ...
