The capital of Queensland, Brisbane has a population of 2,146,577 and is the third most populated city in Australia. Once used by American General Douglas Macarthur as his South West Pacific headquarters during World War II, Brisbane is now more known for its fantastic local music community, emerging café culture and bourgeoning art scene, all while maintaining its laidback attitude. Its warm climate allows for walks, jogs or bike riding along the Brisbane River, within its City Botanic Gardens or simply around the CBD.
Brisbane is also known as "Bris Vegas", a tongue-in-cheek reference to the city's perceived lack of refinement similar to Las Vegas. Despite this, some of Australia's most highly acclaimed actors are from Brisbane, among them Barry Otto (who will appear in the anticipated film adaptation of The Great Gatsby) and his daughter, Miranda Otto (who played Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy).
