An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person trained by a human spaceflight program to command, pilot, or serve as a crew member of a spacecraft. Although generally reserved for professional space travelers, the terms are sometimes applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists, politicians, journalists, and tourists.
Starting in the 1950s up to 2002, astronauts were sponsored and trained exclusively by governments, either by the military or by civilian space agencies. With the suborbital flight of the privately funded SpaceShipOne in 2004, a new category of astronaut was created: the commercial astronaut.
The criteria for what constitutes human spaceflight vary. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Sporting Code for astronautics recognizes only flights that exceed an altitude of 100 kilometers (62 mi). In the United States, professional, military, and commercial astronauts who travel above an altitude of 50 miles (80 km) are awarded astronaut wings.
The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) is an astronaut training facility and neutral buoyancy pool operated by NASA and located at the Sonny Carter Training Facility, near the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The NBL's main feature is a large indoor pool of water, in which astronauts may perform simulated EVA tasks in preparation for upcoming missions. Trainees wear suits designed to provide neutral buoyancy to simulate the microgravity that astronauts would experience during spaceflight.
The diving tank is 202 feet (62 m) in length, 102 feet (31 m) wide, and 40 feet 6 inches (12.34 m) deep, and contains 6.2 million gallons (23.5 million litres) of water. The NBL contains full-scale mock-ups of International Space Station (ISS) modules and payloads, as well as visiting vehicles such as the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) HTV, the European Space Agency ATV, the SpaceX Dragon, and the Orbital Sciences Corporation Cygnus. Previously there was also a mockup of the Space Shuttle payload bay, but since Space Shuttle retirement it has been removed.
"How Do" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Mary Chapin Carpenter. It was released in April 1989 as the first single from the album State of the Heart. The song reached #19 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
Chris Austin Hadfield OC OOnt MSC CD (born 29 August 1959) is a retired Canadian astronaut who was the first Canadian to walk in space. An engineer and former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, Hadfield has flown two space shuttle missions and served as commander of the International Space Station.
Hadfield, who was raised on a farm in southern Ontario, was inspired as a child when he watched the Apollo 11 Moon landing on TV. He attended high school in Oakville and Milton and earned his glider pilot licence as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and earned an engineering degree at Royal Military College. While in the military he learned to fly various types of aircraft and eventually became a test pilot and flew several experimental planes. As part of an exchange program with the United States Navy and United States Air Force, he obtained a master's degree in aviation systems at the University of Tennessee Space Institute.

Rachel Platten - Astronauts - Wildfire
Taken from the movie: For All Mankind (1989) - http://amzn.to/16MNmIx Music by Brian Eno - http://amzn.to/1ab3AeA This movie documents the Apollo missions perhaps the most definitively of any movie under two hours. Al Reinert watched all the footage shot during the missions--over 6,000,000 feet of it, and picked out the best. Instead of being a newsy, fact-filled documentary. Reinart focuses on the human aspects of the space flights. The only voices heard in the film are the voices of the astronauts and mission control. Reinart uses the astronaunts' own words from interviews and from the mission footage. The score by Brian Eno underscores the strangeness, wonder, and and beauty of the astronauts' experiences--experiences which they were privileged to have for a first time "for all mankind....
Photos of our time with the space suit here: http://www.tested.com/science/space/456648-photo-gallery-putting-nasas-space-suit/ We've all seen NASA's white space suit that astronauts have been wearing since the Apollo missions. But what does an astronaut wear underneath that iconic suit's shell? We visit NASA to learn about all the essentials of extravehicular space wear, all the way down to the emergency diapers.

Our photos of the Neutral Buoyancy Lab here: http://www.tested.com/science/space/456628-photo-gallery-inside-nasas-neutral-buoyancy-lab/ Remember that scene in Armageddon where Bruce Willis trains for space travel underwater? Turns out that's something astronauts really do. We visit NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Lab at the Johnson Space Center to learn about this massive swimming pool where Astronauts-in-training learn how to work in micro-gravity when outside the International Space Station.

Who would have thought traveling to outer space could be such a profound experience?
Atom heart lover, where have you been?
A soul without body, a crown without king
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing
Stroke the boy with the rotten skin
Your mind is an ocean, your heart is a shore
My soul is a desert, I still want some more
The cold wind is wailing of sadness and hope
We're crawling on all fours, leaving this road
Drunken astronauts in space, perfect moves in perfect
grace
We are pilots without aim, we're like paintings in the
rain
Heart and soul will lose the war, the mind will dominate
it all
Silent impacts in my mind, we will find a place to die
Atom heart lover, when will we rise?
A life whithout meaning, a truth between lies
Too much knowledge is a murderous thing
Kill the man with the silver ring
Your will is a castle, your hate is a storm
My life is a wasteland, this time I feel torn
The old man is wailing a poem of trust
