The Bundaberg Region is a local government area in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, about 360 kilometres (220 mi) north of Brisbane, the state capital. It is centred on the city of Bundaberg, and also contains a significant rural area surrounding the city. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the City of Bundaberg with the Shires of Burnett, Isis and Kolan.
The Bundaberg Regional Council, which administers the Region, has an estimated operating budget of A$89 million.
Local government in the Bundaberg area began on 11 November 1879 with the creation of 74 divisions around Queensland under the Divisional Boards Act 1879. These included the Barolin, Burrum and Kolan divisions.
The first eight years saw several areas break away and become self-governing due to increases in local population. The first was Bundaberg itself, which with an area of 4.1 square kilometres (1.6 sq mi) and a population of 1,192, split from Barolin on 22 April 1881 to form the Municipality of Bundaberg under the Local Government Act 1878. Areas to the south (Woongarra) and north (Gooburrum) of the Burnett River split from Kolan on 31 December 1885, and Barolin on 30 January 1886 respectively, while on 1 January 1887, the Isis Division further to the south split away from Burrum. Thus by 1887, the Municipality of Bundaberg and the Barolin, Gooburrum, Isis, Kolan and Woongarra Divisions covered the entire territory of what is now the Bundaberg Region.
Bundaberg is a city in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the local government area of the Bundaberg Region and is a major centre within Queensland's broader Wide Bay-Burnett geographical region. The city is on the Burnett River, approximately 385 kilometres (239 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane, and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) inland from the coast.
The first Europeans in the area were timbergetters and farmers who arrived in 1867. The town was surveyed in 1870. By 1881 it was gazetted as a municipality (the Borough of Bundaberg). It grew rapidly into a town by 1902 and a city by 1913.
The city name is thought to be an artificial combination of bunda, the Kabi Aboriginal word denoting important man, and the German suffix berg indicating mountain. The city is colloquially known as "Bundy".
The local Aboriginal group is the Kalki people. They are the inhabitants of the region which stretched from the Burrum river in the south to the Baffle creek in the north. They were part of the Kabi Language Group. (Edward Curr 1886).

The mindless cutting down of another tree by council ,whats new you say ?. Well read on. Well not only was the Rusty Mahogany tree (Dysoxylum Rufus)at least 150 years old it also managed to survive the 2013 flood which decimated the site. Further to this it sits in a bush land setting 20 kilometers out of Bundaberg, But check out the video, the tree was cut right next to a sign advertising our phone numbers for work bees on the site ,but could any half wit ring us ,not this council or its representatives, and this is only one of more than a half dozen similar acts of council vandalism done to our site since its inception. In fact this was one of the very first trees we saved on the site some 13 years ago,and a tree we have sat under for that amount of time to have lunch with our volunteers ...
