Police found the koala joey in a woman’s bag.
HANDBAGS are known to contain weird items, but one Queensland woman has taken it to the next level after being found yesterday with a koala joey.
Queensland Police had stopped the 50-year-old woman on Newnham Rd, Wishart at around 8.55pm on Sunday night for unrelated matters.
When officers arresting her asked her if she had anything to declare, the woman handed over a zipped green canvas bag and told officers it contained a baby koala.
Police officers cautiously unzipped the bag and found the six-month-old joey.

A police spokesman said officers were looking into claims the woman found the joey the night before on Kessels Road, Nathan, and was caring for it.
The RSPCA Ambulance was called and attended the Brisbane City Watch house to collect the joey — who is protected under the Nature Conservation Act.
The koala seemed to be in good health.
“He’s been on fluids but is doing well and will shortly be going out to a carer,” said RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty.

“He weighs 1.5kg and we’ve called him Alfred.”
However the RSPCA is urging anyone who finds a koala not to attempt to handle it.
“Please call our animal emergency hotline on 1300 ANIMAL,’’ Mr Beatty said.
“Often the animal may have no obvious signs of injury but it can have internal injuries that need immediate attention.”
