Do we have the guts for a fight?
A group of citizens have put the government to the test by asking the High Court to decide whether Article 50 can be triggered by the government without an Act of Parliament and a preceding debate. The government were somewhat surprised to find that they were not judged to have the right to act alone without consultation. Can the same spirit of citizenship be used to hold the government to account nearer to home?
In various publications, talks, and gossip, I have heard a lot about the supposed legal status of Cornwall. Some say that there has never been any treaty that has included Cornwall into England. Others say that even if there was, it was over-ridden by Cornwall being given to The Black Prince as his domain, not as a fiefdom or leasehold, thus making it a Kingdom ruled by a Duke known as a Duchy. This seems to have been agreed in law in more recent Victorian times.

We are now told by Ministers that Cornwall is a county that has no special status and should be considered as just another part of a region known as the “South West”. We are also told that the Framework Convention has no power to prevent Cornwall from ceasing to exist as an entity, because it refers to the Nation of Cornwall as a people rather than a geographic location.
I would personally like to get to the bottom of this and find out the truth or possibly the legal status.

To do this would probably mean taking legal action against the government in just the same way that the “People’s Challenge” group did over Article 50. Have we got the guts for this? Could we raise money by Crowd Funding to pay for it like they did? One thing is certain, now is the time to do it when the constitutional position is in turmoil.
