Cllr Dick Cole re-elected leader of Mebyon Kernow
At a meeting of Mebyon Kernow’s National Executive on Friday (21st October), it was confirmed that Cllr Dick Cole had been re-elected unopposed as leader of the Party for Cornwall.

MK has an annual election to fill the four posts in its leadership team and when nominations for the position of leader closed on 5th October, Cllr Cole was the only nominated candidate.

The other three members of the MK leadership team were also elected unopposed.

Loveday Jenkin, the Cornwall Councillor for Crowan and Wendron, will continue to serve as Deputy Leader, while Cllr Andrew Long, the Cornwall Councillor for Callington, will be Treasurer. A newcomer to the leadership team is Cllr Michael Bunney from Gorran, who will be the new Party Development Officer.

The results will be officially announced at MK’s National Conference which will take place in Truro on 19th November.

Cllr Cole, who represents St Enoder Parish on the unitary authority, was first elected MK leader in 1997. He said:

“I am very pleased that I will be continuing as the leader of Mebyon Kernow and I look forward to doing my utmost to demand a better deal for Cornwall and to promote MK as an alternative to the London-based political parties.”

One of the longest serving political leader in Britain, Cllr Cole was first elected MK leader in 1997.
