ESWA 2.0
Okay ...invitations are being opened this weekend for new members to access the ESWA 2.0 site. In the comments you will find instructions on how to access the site. I can only run this for short limited periods of time over the coming few days.

ESWA is Moving

Building up a new home....
Folks, it is nearly time to bring this blog to an end. Very shortly ESWA will have a new little corner of the internet, become more secure and finally be able to offer a lot more of what we do best. Over the next week or so our regular contributors and those who have donated will receive a link to the new ESWA. Eventually I may get around to posting a link in the comments of this thread but that will be for a limited period only. All the other links in the original blogger comments will be removed over the next week or so.

See you on the other side....

Big Funk

Die Warzau - Funkopolis
Ripped from  a promotional double 12" vinyl single released on Fiction Records (FICSX 40) in 1991 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. From the penguinflight archives - I am not too sure we really need all seven interpretations of Funkopolis, however Die Warzau find a worthy groove with some close comparisons to Drinking Gasoline era Cabaret Voltaire which will no doubt appeal to many out there.

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - Confessions Of A Knife...
Ripped from a vinyl album released on Wax Trax! Records (WAX 089) in 1990 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. There was a time when Nile Rodgers legal writs flew around the music business like confetti at a windy wedding. The Thrill Kills got away with it, likely because their album sales were few & far between and few noticed. Their debut long player ...Good Spirits disappointed me as it lacked imagination amongst a sea of like-minded acts, Confessions.. on the other hand ramps things up into a sample riddled funky post-industrial dance-floor frenzy. It kinda fits into the void between good Ministry and Sheffield's fine Screaming Trees. We like that sort of thing around here, don't we? I'll leave it to you to find what Nile's lawyers missed.

Kopyright Liberation Front - Waiting For The Rights Of Mu
Ripped from a compact disc album released on Echo Beach Records (EB 014) in 1997 to high quality lossless flac audio. Now this is the last of my KLF ....I promise. In theory it was also their final release proper which snuck out when everybody had given up paying attention to the work of Cauty and Drummond. Supposedly a movie soundtrack, though more over the antidote to Chill Out. Martin Sheen narrates... To quote blog contributor penguinflight.... Martin Sheen Joins The Jams. Aye, sod Whitney! If I don't hear Hueys dusting off in the background I'll know Marlon didn't make it...

2K - ***k The Millennium
Ripped from a Japanese compact disc mini-album released on KLF Communications/Blast First (TOCP-50386) in 1997 to high quality lossless flac audio. Somebody came up with idea of a brass band covering acid house, in particular What Time s Love?, so The KLF piled in and fucked it up. Bring back the bagpipes I say! Somewhere among the credits I notice Donald Johnson adds the live drums on this limited Japanese release. Well worth the listen for the ear splitting 14 minute opus that is the title track.

Space - Space
Ripped from a compact disc album released on KLF Communications (SPACE CD 1) in 1990 to high quality lossless flac audio. Time to end this run of JAMs/KLF etc etc with Jimmy Cauty's Space compact disc. The whole thing runs as just one track which I have left as is. Enjoy your weekends.

The KLF vs. The BPI

The KLF vs. Extreme Noise Terror - 3 A.M. Eternal
Ripped from a crackly 7" vinyl single on KLF Communications (KLF 5 TOTP) in 1992 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. I had always thought this was one their finest moments at the 1992 Brit Awards ceremony ...when Bill Drummond unleashed semi-automatic fire over the heads of the massed industry liggers. Play loud!

The KLF - Justified & Ancient
Ripped from a compact disc single released on KLF Communications (KLF 99CD) in 1991 to high quality lossless flac audio. The KLF invade America and come back with Tammy Wynette! Quite possibly one of the worst singles ever released.

The KLF - America: What Time Is Love?
Ripped from a compact disc single released on KLF Communications (KLF USA 4CD) in 1991 to high quality lossless flac audio. The KLF attempt to give their colonial chums a history lesson! Any disco-pop record featuring bagpipes is damn fine with me.

The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu - It's Grim Up North
Ripped from a compact disc single released on KLF Communications (JAMS 028CD) in 1991 to high quality lossless flac audio. Highly inappropriate for Easter Day I know, but The JAMs were resurrected on this one off tribute to all that is great about northern Britain. Steam trains, sheep, Jerusalem, Bolton, Widnes, Salford, Grimsby, Hebden Bridge and the M62. Ey Up Lads.

The KLF - The White Room
Ripped from a vinyl album released on KLF Communications (JAMSLP 006) in 1991 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. The White Room was originally planned as The KLF's road movie, it was filmed and a soundtrack recorded however neither were officially released. As one of music's most bootlegged bands, there are copies available and the movie is freely available on YouTube,
The eventual White Room album was mostly re-recorded using some of the musical ideas from the original soundtrack, mixed in with newer material and audience noise (courtesy of U2 and The Doors live albums) to give the impression of a live show. Licensing 'issues' in the USA resulted in an abridged version where most of the live audience samples were edited out. The album spawned a multitude of hit singles as the KLF became heroes of the nineties disco kids. You will be relieved to know that Tammy Wynette does not feature on this record!

The KLF - What Time Is Love (Live At Trancentral)
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (KLF 004X) in 1990 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. Under the false pretenses of being actually live, The KLF introduce us to the very short career of  M.C. Bello. Former 400 Blow and Moody Boy, Tony Thorpe takes over sampling duties and PP Arnold is roped in for backing vocals. The masses lapped it all up.

Chilled Out

The KLF - Chill Out
Ripped from a vinyl album released on KLF Communications (JAMS LP5) in 1990 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. A few years back, I ripped the compact disc version and posted it here. Now seems the right time to have a go at extracting from the vinyl - except for a the occasional clicks'n'pops (and some of those come from railroad-side campfires) - I'd say I am please with the results.
The cover states there are 14 tracks but it rips as one complete piece of music (I've split the tracks as per the published timings) however I strongly recommend that the only way to appreciate Chill Out is to listen from beginning to end. So make yourself a cup of coffee, put your feet up, put this on the hi-fi, sit back, relax and then enjoy from beginning to end.

The KLF - The What Time Is Love CD
Ripped from a compact disc album released on KLF Communications (JAMS CD4) in 1989 to high quality lossless flac audio. Two mixes by The KLF accompany a variety of cover versions by euro-disco-house fanatics. The title of this post sums up my feelings on the matter so I won't be covering the multitude of versions and mixes made available from 1990 onwards, except maybe one from penguinflight's stash.

Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (KLF 010T) in 1989 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. Take a trip down memory lane with Cauty & Drummond's tribute to the eighties phenomenea of soaps & sitcoms in a variety of mixes. Oh baby!

The KLF - What Time Is Love?
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (KLF 004T) in 1988 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. Originally snuck out in a limited release of only 2000 copies, The KLF borrow heavily from Section 25's Program For Light and eventually make a mint - the subsequent 1990 and 1991 re-releases in a multitude of mixes sold by the bucket load.. You'll notice a little high frequency distortion, likely down to mastering errors on the original vinyl pressings, rather than a fluffy stylus.

Disco 2000 - One Love Nation
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (D 2002) in 1988 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. The JAMs backing singers were June Montana (ex-Brilliant) and Jimmy Cauty's wife Cressida. In a brief hybrid of The KLF, they became Disco 2000 and released three feisty disco singles, more Bananrama in style than Justified and Ancient in attitude. Most should recognise One Love Nation as a re-working of The JAMs Candystore.

The KLF - Burn The Bastards
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (KLF 002T) in 1988 to high resolution 24-bit flac audio. With 1987 out of the way, The JAMs were no more and were now The KLF. 1988 was going to be a big year, but first they had to play tribute to Sly Stone and a host of others in this disco party mash-up from the end of 1987. Also recorded as JAMs Have A Party and Burn The Beat, this final fling from the Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu failed to break the charts, it is likely the title chosen for the single prevented any airplay.

Ripped from a vinyl album released on KLF Communications (JAMS LP 2) in 1988 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. Tricky second album syndrome - suddenly everybody was paying attention and the sample police were on stand by. Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (JAMS 25T) in 1987 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu - Whitney Joins The J.A.M.s
Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on KLF Communications (JAMS 24T) in 1987 to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. It is thirty years since Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty invaded our lives as those Justified Ancients with the immortal 1987 What The Fuck Is Going On? long player. I covered the album in depth a few months back, time now for a long weekend of posts commemorating their subsequent work.

The rappers were Paul Leveridge aka Kermit (yes ....that Kermit!) and his mate Fiddz. Ripped from a 12" vinyl single released on One Little Indian Records (041TP 12L) to high resolution 24-bit lossless flac audio. Going a bit down-tempo now. Scouser soul boy Pete Wylie turns bitter beat poet in this laid back and smooth chill-out dedication to everything he hates in life. His...Imperfect List. T-Coy - Cariño
Ripped from pre-release 12" vinyl single released on Deconstruction Records (M6222) in 1987 to high resolution 24-bit flac. As I said previously....something very different, and after a certain withdrawn Age Of Chance single, one of the most requested re-posts here on ESWA.
Back in those heady days, I only ever ripped to mp3, so now at last, I finally got around to the high rez re-rips. Depending on which camp you are in, house music was either ruined by the Brits, or blossomed to become huge by the British hunger for dance music. Regardless, T-Coy were the pioneers of the genre in Britain (make that Manchester) and never really received the success or praise due at the time. Mike Pickering went onto form M-People, co-vocalist and percussionist Simon Topping packed up his bongos and took to piano tuning, and sadly keyboard whiz Richie Close passed away in 1991. Though not everybody's cup of tea, their unique form of latin-tinged house music did get my toes tapping and I was particularly drawn to the melancholic and minimalist simplicity of Regret and the percussion driven Da Me Mas. I've ripped all three of their original singles for this post (complete with B-sides) for those who also like to tap their toes from time to time. Many of you may not have seen this video.

Even As We Speak - Feral Pop Frenzy
Ripped from a compact disc album released on Sarah Records (SARAH 614CD) in 1993 to high quality lossless flac audio. Sydney NSW is a zillion miles from Bristol in Avon and the idea of an Aussie twee-pop band sounds just wrong. Feral Pop Frenzy at first lures you into thinking this is a twee record, however you'll quickly realise otherwise. Expect electronics and synthpop, samples, trip-hop beats, super-sweet sickly pop songs, acoustic camp fire songs, banjos, didgeridoos and a jaw harp. Great album.

Ripped from a compact disc album released on Sarah Records (SARAH 404CD) in 1991 to high quality lossless flac audio. Most of my own Sarah releases are on compact disc rather than vinyl, and it was a real pleasure this morning to rediscover an old favourite. Winter may well be out of the way but there is no better time to enjoy this superb album once more.

Not Too Pure

Boyracer - From Purity To Purgatory
Ripped from a compact disc single released on Sarah Records (SARAH 85CD) in 1993 to high quality lossless flac audio. Thanks to all who have sent rips, suggestions or otherwise for this mini-run of Sarah bits. We currently have enough to keep going for another week ...or so! Keep them coming.
