• The PM's new ad reveals he, like many Australian, grew up a struggling battler. Unfortunately, the Aussie people aren't buying it.
The PM's new ad claims he, like many Australians, grew up a struggling battler. But rather than make him appear more relatable, it looks like its just prompted a whole lot of people to have fun with a brand new hashtag.

If there's ever been a leader accused of being out-of-touch, it's our own polo top-wearing, Point Piper-living, Rhodes Scholar-ly prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

So to assure the Australian public he is in fact a 'man of the people', Team Turnbull shared the following video. The social-media friendly post highlights the PM's humble beginnings being raised by a "battling" single dad.

Unfortunately for the former Goldman Sachs investment banker, the video has only worsened Turnbull's plight. With many accusing the video's sentiment of being contrived and pandering, and has lead to the hashtag #MalcolmWasSoPoor gaining traction on Twitter.

Similar to the 'Yo mama so fat-' style jokes, #MalcolmWasSoPoor has welcomed several hilariously ridiculous tweets that illustrate the video's irony given Turnbull's pompous image. Here's the best of the bunch:

Some took a stab at his policies...

And some of them went a bit too far.

Maybe the only way out now is for Malcolm to embrace his pompous image. Own it. Maybe buy himself a crown

It can't possibly be worse than this.
