An Australian woman has been kidnapped in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul.
An Australian woman has reportedly been kidnapped on Saturday in the Afghanistan capital, Kabul, according to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
A DFAT departmental spokesperson told the Huffington Post Australia on Sunday that urgent enquiries into the reports and incident are being made.
"The Australian Embassy in Kabul is making urgent enquiries into reports an Australian has been kidnapped in Kabul," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement released on Sunday.
"We continue to advise Australians not to travel to Afghanistan because of the extremely dangerous security situation, including the serious threat of kidnapping."
According to Reuters, Afghan television station Tolo News said on Sunday that the Australian woman, who is yet to be identified, was abducted at gunpoint in the Qala-i-Fatullah area of the city.
The incident follows two prior kidnappings of Australian foreign aid workers this year. Kerry Jane Wilson was abducted from a charity office in the city of Jalalabad in April and freed in August and another Australian teacher was kidnapped along with an American colleague from the American University in Kabul in August.
