Reno, Nevada: Donald Trump has been rushed off stage by Secret Service agents during a campaign speech in Nevada, with one unconfirmed report suggesting a person in the audience saw a person with a gun.

Live streams of the rally showed Mr Trump stop mid-speech before holding his hand above his eyes to shield the light and looking into the crowd.

Dramatic scenes as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is rushed off stage by security agents at a rally in Reno, Nevada.

Two Secret Service agents then rush on stage and pull Mr Trump away.

Security personnel removed someone from the crowd and within minutes Mr Trump returned to the stage to finish his address, saying that "nobody ever said this was going to be easy" and thanking the Secret Service agents before resuming his stump speech.

Throughout the incident the crowd remained calm.

One witness told CNN that police and Secret Service was brought to the ground in front of Trump's podium by up to a dozen agents and searched before he was hauled out of the venue into a side-room and interrogated.

Upon returning to the stage, Mr Trump thanked the Secret Service but shed little light on what happened.

"Nobody said it was going to be easy for us but we will never be stopped, never ever be stopped," he told the cheering crowd.

Throughout the campaign disturbances in both his crowds and those of his opponent, Hillary Clinton have been fairly common.

In Fort Lauderdale last week Fairfax Media watched as a man was wrestled out of a Clinton campaign rally after starting to scream that Bill Clinton was a racist.

Two days later the same thing occurred at a Trump campaign rally when a man started screaming that the candidate was a racist.

Crowds at recent rallies have become larger and more intense as polls tighten and candidates seek to draw larger and larger numbers to their events in order to drive voter turnout.

Nevada has become one of the key battleground states, a traditionally conservative stronghold that the Democrats believe they can seize due to growth in the Latino population and in that group's support for Mrs Clinton in the face of Mr Trump's racially charged campaign.
