Tomahawk-wielding man injures three officers in violent carjacking: police

A Perth man has been arrested after allegedly hitting three police cars, flinging a tomahawk at a woman's car and injuring three police officers after their attempt to Taser him.

About 8.30am Friday, Murdoch police spotted a stolen black Ford Falcon on the corner of Winterfold and Stock Roads in Hamilton Hill, which hit their police car when they tried to pull it over, WA Police spokeswoman Sarah Dyer said.

It further evaded officers in Spearwood, who saw one of the two passengers run from the car as they deflated its tyres with a Stinger.

The driver and his other passenger drove to the nearby Phoenix Shopping Centre and abandoned the car in the underground carpark, she said.

The passenger fled into the centre while the driver allegedly threw a tomahawk at a woman's car and then dragged her from the driver's seat and got in.

"Officers from Armadale Detectives and Cockburn Local Policing Team attempted to apprehend the driver," Ms Dyer said.

"A Taser was unsuccessfully deployed."

He put the car in reverse, injuring the three officers trying to arrest him, and drove off, she said.

The Regional Operations Group eventually joined Cockburn Police in stopping the car on Stock Road, Spearwood, near Quarimor Road, and arrested him.

His passenger was arrested at Phoenix Shopping Centre.

The woman dragged from her car was uninjured.

Three police cars were damaged.

The three injured officers are being treated at Fiona Stanley Hospital – a man with cuts to his leg, a woman with cuts to her limbs and a possible concussion and another man with cuts to his limbs and a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The driver, a 23-year-old man Hilton man, and his passenger, a 33-year-old man from Spearwood, are undergoing questioning.
