Casey’s model rescue dogs grace the pages of the Victorian Dog Rescue 2017 calendar

SOME of Victoria’s most photogenic rescue dogs, including Louie from Doveton and Harvey from Cranbourne South, will grace the pages of a calendar in the new year.

Donna Canning adopted Harvey, a chocolate labrador, from Victorian Dog Rescue two years ago and estimates he is three years old.

She said she always had dogs and lived on a 2ha property, so she was easily able to open her home to a large dog.

media_cameraHarvey was adopted by Cranbourne’s Donna Canning and appears in the 2017 Victorian Dog Rescue calendar.

“We call him our supermodel,” she said.

“Apparently (Victorian Dog rescue) finds it hard to rehome big dogs, which might be part of the reason they put a big dog in there.

“Apparently they found him walking down the main street of Cobram in the middle of the road so he’s had a long journey.

“He ended up at the pound and the Victorian Dog Rescue got involved. We fostered him and then I fell in love.”

media_cameraLouie, from Doveton, is also included in the calendar.

Ms Canning said she would recommend adoption to anybody and said she didn’t believe pet shops should be allowed to sell animals when so many dogs and cats needed homes.

Proceeds from sales of the calendar will go to Victorian Dog Rescue; a not-for-profit rescue groups that places dogs and cats into community foster care then finds homes for them.

The group is run completely by volunteers and relies on community donations.
