Radica Zafirovska, 54, was found bludgeoned to death last week in her home at The Gap.
Police were called to the Jillinda Place home following a frantic triple zero call.
A friend and work colleague of the slain Macedonian woman broke down outside the court, telling media her friend was a nice, loving woman.
Outside court, Ms Zafirovska's defence lawyer said his client had been "distraught" since her arrest and a mental health assessment would be done.
"I have had the mental health nurse see her this morning and we will get a proper assessment done in the next few days," he said.
He said Ms Zafirovska was studying at university and worked as a cleaner.
"She doesn't have a lot of friends or family in Australia so she has very little support in the community," he said.
Ms Zafirovska's case will be mentioned again on November 28, she will not be required to appear in court.
