BLOOD ATONEMENT
Blood Atonement is a controversial doctrine taught by some early Latter-day Saint leaders, and expanded by Brigham Young, that within a theocracy, there are certain sins such as murder that requires that murderers "have their blood spilt upon the ground, that the smoke thereof might ascend to heaven as an offering for their sins" in order for the Atonement of Jesus fully operative in the repentance process.

BOOK OF ABRAHAM
The Book Of Abraham is a book created by Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith purchased some papyrus that was found with an Egyptian mummy. Joseph claimed that the papyrus contained the Book of Abraham and thus created the "Pearl Of Great Price". Modern day Egyptologists have translated the Joseph Smith Papyrus Facsimiles, as well as other documents that did not make it into the facsimiles - but were part of the original collection of Papyri. Their conclusion: The documents are entirely different from what Joseph Smith said.

BOOK OF MORMON
In 1820 Joseph Smith claimed that he saw God and Jesus Christ. The two were floating above him in the air and looked identical. Joseph alleges that Jesus Christ told him about buried golden plates wherein the history of Ancient Americans was contained. In due time Joseph retrieved the plates and translated them into the "Book Of Mormon". Mormons consider the Book Of Mormon to be the most correct book on earth.

BOOK OF MORMON EVIDENCES
The Book Of Mormon states that there were horses, elephants, steel, tin, wheat, barley, bows, arrows, slings, chariots and more - during the time that the "Nephites" and "Lamaites" lived on the American continents. Modern day archeologists, geologists, paleontologists and scientists have found absolutely no evidence that any Book of Mormon animals or items ever existed. Mormon Apologists continue to place together every little fact they can to prove the Book of Mormon is true. This topic covers the attempts by Mormon Apologists who go to great lengths to obscure, convolute, invent and otherwise distort history to fit their agenda.

BOOK OF MORMON GEOGRAPHY
Recently, the Mormon Apologist organization "FARMS" has created what is called the "Limited Geography Theory" to explain why absolutely -zero- archeological evidence has been found to support the Book Of Mormon history. FARMS apologists such as Daniel C. Peterson have come up with multiple Hill Cumorah theories to explain why no evidence of ancient wars was found around the Hill Cumorah located in upstate New York. This topic covers the ludicrous ideas created by Mormon Apologetic organizations that create facts to support their conclusions.

BOY SCOUTS
The Mormon Church uses Cub and Boy Scouts as a religiously based organizational path towards missions and and lifelong members of the Mormon Church. Leaders are "called" by praying for inspiration rather than utilizing members with proper experience in Scouting. Emphasis is based on Mormonism and young men are accelerated through the Scouting program faster than young men outside the Church. Mormon Boy Scouts can receive an Eagle Award simply by placing bags on neighborhood doors and collecting food for homeless shelters. All meetings, ceremonies and awards are held in Mormon Churches.

BRUCE R. MCCONKIE
Bruce R. (Redd) McConkie (1915-1985) Mormon Apostle from 1972 to 1985, famous for his book "Mormon Doctrine". A very racist man against blacks and minorities, and a man who passionately hated other churches, specifically the Catholic Church. In 1958 he wrote, "It is also to the Book of Mormon to which we turn for the plainest description of the Catholic Church as the great and abominable church." (Mormon Doctrine, p. 130, 1958 edition).

CALLINGS
In addition to regular church work Mormons are given what are called "Callings". These callings can be teaching the primary children, Elders Quorum President, Bishops, and even janitors.
When particular positions are necessary to fill in the local Mormon Wards, Mormon authority figures meet and decide who will best fit that position. A calling is then extended to that Mormon member and the member may choose whether or not to accept the calling.
Mormons are taught that rejecting callings is the same as rejecting Jesus Christ.
In recent years the Mormon Church has been laying off paid workers who clean Mormon Ward Houses and Church Office Buildings - and replacing them with callings - a source of free labor.

CATHOLIC CHURCH
Mormonism views the Catholic Church as the "Great and Abominable Church." "It is also to the Book of Mormon to which we turn for the plainest description of the Catholic Church as the great and abominable church. Nephi saw this 'church which is the most abominable above all other churches' in vision. He 'saw the devil that he was the foundation of it' and also the murders, wealth, harlotry, persecutions, and evil desires that historically have been a part of this satanic organization. (1 Nephi 13:1-10)" - Mormon Doctrine, p. 130 (1958)

CHILDREN AND MORMONISM
Indoctrination in Mormonism begins in early childhood. Mormon children are taught that they must obey all the commandments. They are taught that it may sometimes be difficult, but this life is a testing place. Temptations must be overcome, and a good Mormon will be able to overcome them. If you obey priesthood authority, attend church, study the scriptures, pay a full ten percent tithing, avoid people and places where you might find temptation, then you will be able to keep all the commandments. If you are not able to keep all the commandments, then it is because you have failed to protect yourself from temptation. You have done something wrong. You have allowed yourself to have a sinful thought. You have not prayed enough. You have not read the scriptures enough. You must repent and hope that you will not sin again.

CHURCH TEACHING MANUALS
The Mormon Church creates a single manual that all Mormons must be taught by. Each lesson is carefully sanitized to hide the embarrassing reality of Church history. COGNITIVE DISSONANCE
Cognitive dissonance is a state of opposition between cognitions. For the purpose of cognitive consistency theory, cognitions are defined as being an attitude, emotion, belief or value, or even a mixture of these. In brief, the theory of cognitive dissonance holds that contradicting cognitions serve as a driving force that compels the human mind to acquire or invent new thoughts or beliefs, or to modify existing beliefs, so as to minimize the amount of dissonance (conflict) between cognitions.

DANITES
The Danites comprised most of the 400 or so Mormon men who surrendered along with Smith and Rigdon to state militia forces at Far West. Smith, Rigdon, and several other Danite leaders were arrested, and spent the next few months in jail awaiting trial on treason and murder charges. Most of the other 15,000 or so Mormons, having been banished from Missouri, settled near Quincy, Illinois. Meaning, Smith didn't "disband the maverick body"; rather, the Danites were disbanded because they were either in jail or had moved to Illinois. Many former Missouri-period Danites later became Nauvoo policemen, Joseph Smith's bodyguards, or Nauvoo Legionnaries. Meaning, rather than being "maverick" or outcasts, they were among Smith's most trusted and loyal followers.

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
During the time that Joseph Smith lived, he allegedly received direct revelation from Jesus Christ wherein Jesus Christ allegedly spoke to him. After the fact, Joseph wrote down word for word in his journals. These journals were later converted into the "History Of The Church" for which the Doctrine And Covenants were created. Since Joseph Smith died, no new "direct revelation" has been posted showing that no other prophet, past or present, has had divine revelation that the LDS Church has published. In addition, much of the earlier "revelations" that Joseph Smith received have been altered or deleted to fit with today's standards.

EXCOMMUNICATION AND COURTS OF LOVE
Those who are excommunicated are no longer in "good standing" with the LDS Church. Persons that are excommunicated are no longer able to participate in any Mormon Church function, including praying, teaching or holding any office. The Mormon priesthood is taken away and all "blessings", rights and Temple privileges are taken away. Excommunicated members are not allowed to pay tithing however the church does not exempt them from paying tithing. Excommunicated members are further ostracized in Mormon Sacrament Meetings where they are forbidden to take the Sacramental offerings - or even speak vocally. Because of this, excommunicated persons are punished further in the eyes of other church members.

FACIAL HAIR
Mormons are counseled not to have facial hair. Mormon temple workers are not allowed to have facial hair and are not allowed inside the temple with any facial hair. While there is no official doctrine on the matter found in the Church Handbook Of Instructions, Mormons are continually commanded by their local authorities to be clean-shaven and to wear white shirts.
Because facial hair comes up so often in Recovery from Mormonism, a topic has been created for it.
The issue is not about facial hair, the issue is about obedience.

FARMS
FARMS, or "Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies", was an apologetic organization headed by Mormon Apologist Daniel C. Peterson. The purpose of FARMS was to launch attacks against perceived enemies of the Church. Articles were critical of authors, books - and even current members that held views in opposition to Church teachings. In 2012, BYU Professor Daniel C. Peterson was fired and all prior works of FARMS were demoted. Under new leadership, FARMS became The Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship - and publications became known as The Mormon Studies Review.

FIRST VISION
The Mormon Church relies and heavily uses what is referred to as the "First Vision." The First Vision is an account of Joseph Smith, a 14 year old boy, who puzzled over which church to join, knelt in a grove of trees in 1820 and prayed for an answer. According to the Mormon Church First Vision, God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and told him that all churches were corrupt and that Joseph would be called to bring forth the "True Church Of God."

FOOD STORAGE
Mormonism is a dooms-day-cult, meaning, it continually preaches that the end is near and that Jesus Christ will come to destroy all of the wicked and only the saints and a few "righteous" persons will be left. In the beginning, the Mormon Church taught that every Mormon should have food storage to prepare for the second coming of Christ. Near the middle of 1900s, the Mormon Church changed the amount of the food storage to two years. Several decades later it was changed to one year. Today, the food storage is three months.

Members of the LDS Church that rise past the rank of Stake President are considered General Authorities. They leave their current jobs and work for the LDS Church full time. In exchange, the LDS Church provides them a full salary and often lavish living expenses. Those who rise to the rank of Apostle must sell any business they own and renounce any board of directors for companies that are not directly own by the LDS Church (Hinckley 1996). Generally those who reach Apostle sell their businesses and hand the money over to the LDS Church.

GUNNISON MASSACRE
Allegedly, Gunnison was warned by Mormons that local bands of Pahvant Utes might not be very sympathetic to his presence due to an ongoing conflict, known as the Walker War, with Utah Chief Walkara. At the time of the killings, rumors circulated that the Pahvants involved in the massacre were acting under the direction of Brigham Young and the secret militia known as Danites. INTERVIEWS IN MORMONISM
Priesthood leaders several times per year interview Mormons. Men, generally a Bishop or a Stake President, conduct these interviews in private. Questions regarding personal "worthiness" are conducted. Mormons consent to these intrusions into their lives as these intrusions begin early in life. Every detail of the members' lives is inspected for worthiness. Mormon minor children are taken into rooms with closed doors - and are asked sexual questions by adult men. These children are asked if they masturbate and other sexual questions. This illegal practice must stop.

KINDERHOOK PLATES
The Kinderhook Plates are six brass plates were created and brought to Joseph in order to catch the Prophet in deception. It worked. The prophet translated the pages and stated: "I have seen 6 brass plates... covered with ancient characters of language containing from 30 to 40 on each side of the plates. Prest J. has translated a portion and says they contain the history of the person with whom they were found and he was a descendant of Ham through the loins of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and that he received his kingdom from the ruler of heaven and earth." The translation proved that Joseph Smith was indeed a con-artist.

KIRTLAND BANK
Topics surrounding the Kirtland Bank created by Joseph Smith.
The Kirtland Bank was created in the State of Ohio by Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon. Joseph was the Cashier and Sidney was the President. Unable to obtain a Banking Charter, Joseph and Sidney created an "Anti-Bank" Bank. Depositors were lured in because Joseph Smith told his followers that as a Prophet of God, the Bank would never fail.
Joseph Smith's delusions left them empty-handed and the bank declared bankruptcy. Many faithful Mormons lost their life savings and investments - and their faith. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon fled Kirtland under the cover of darkness in January of 1838 to escape bank depositors who were given worthless bank notes in exchange for gold and silver deposits.
The bank was a complete scam from the beginning.

OBEDIENCE - PAY, PRAY, OBEY
Mormonism is all about obedience. Mormons are continually told that they must obey the leaders of the LDS Church without question.
Recently talks were given by LDS Apostles that women were only allowed to wear one earring per ear. Earrings are not essential to salvation in the LDS Dogma - it is simply a level of control. Members are then counseled by LDS authority figures that anyone disobeying the earring commandment is not worthy as a potential spouse or friend.

PATRIARCHAL BLESSING
Patriarchal Blessings are given by Stake Patriarchs whose "calling" is to give blessings to "worthy" members of the LDS Church around the age of 19. The Patriarch briefly interviews the person before hand gleaming information about the person's life and goals. The blessing is then given and recorded on a small tape recorder. The blessing is then transferred to paper and a copy is sent to LDS Church Membership Records and a copy given to the person who received the blessing. Most LDS Patriarchal Blessings are obscure and difficult to understand. Members are counseled that if blessings do not occur, then it is the fault of the person, or, the blessing might not occur until after death. Patriarchal Blessings in Mormonism are identical to fortune telling.

PERSECUTION
The LDS Church claims that it was persecuted since Joseph Smith received his "First Vision". The LDS Church claims these persecutions were the product of Satan trying to stop the "True Church" from being restored. The LDS Church uses past persecution as grounds for "Faith Promoting Rumors". Mormon Apologists go to great lengths to convince Mormons that all those persecuted were completely innocent. This topic is devoted to exposing the truth behind the persecutions.

PLAN OF SALVATION
Mormons teach what they call the "Plan Of Salvation". Essentially the plan is that human beings were spiritual children to God and his multiple wives. Eventually through God's Plan Of Salvation, human beings will become Gods themselves. Those that do not obey will be placed in prisons called "Degrees of Glory".

POLYGAMY
The Mormon Church stopped the practice of Polygamy "officially" in 1890, but practiced it in secret for several decades afterwards. Today, Mormons practice "Spiritual Polygamy" wherein their Doctrine And Covenants section 132 states that Polygamy is "The New And Everlasting Covenant". Two living Mormon Apostles are currently married to more than one woman.

PRIESTHOOD BLESSINGS
Mormons believe that Mormon Males with the Melchizedek priesthood have the ability to act in Jesus' name. Mormons perform "blessings" by placing a drop of "consecrated" olive oil (anointing) on the crown of a person's head, then two Melchizedek priesthood holders lay their hands on the person's head and pronounce a blessing on the person. Mormons are counseled that if the blessing worked, it was the will of God. If the blessing did not work, it was also the will of God, or, the person was not worthy enough to receive the blessing. Either way, God wins and Mormons cannot distinguish between the two.

PRIMARY
Children younger than eight years of age are in one of many classes called "Primary", such as "Star A", "Star B", "Sunbeams", etc. Males attend priesthood classes while females attend gospel doctrine classes. The children are then placed in small classrooms that are taught by ward members who have been "Called" to that position.
Mormon children are taught to sing indoctrination songs such as "Follow The Prophet", "I Hope They Call Me On A Mission" and other songs specifically designed for indoctrination. They are taught to fold their arms and to be reverent. Boys are taught to go on missions, girls are taught to be married only in the temple.
The high level of indoctrination occurs at these young levels to insure the children will be lifetime active, paying, praying and obeying members of the Mormon Church.

RELIEF SOCIETY
Organization of adult women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which complements the priesthood. The Relief Society was organized by the Joseph Smith in 1842. Since women in the LDS church have no authority nor title, they are given Relief Society.
Only men (generally all men, including boys age twelve and up) hold the priesthood in the church, and thus only men are in positions of authority. Even where women act as leaders in the women's organization (the "Relief Society"), they are supervised by men. Women are trained to serve and obey their husbands (or fathers, if unmarried).
The Relief Society has been simply a "figurehead" since the inception of Correlation when they no longer could govern themselves.

RICHARD LYMAN BUSHMAN
Richard Lyman Bushman, Gouverneur Morris Professor of History, Emeritus, at Columbia University, grew up in Portland, Oregon, and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University. He has also taught at Brigham Young University, Boston University, and the University of Delaware. His From Puritan to Yankee: Character and Social Order in Connecticut, 1690-1765 won the Bancroft Prize in 1967. His other books include Joseph Smith and the Beginnings of Mormonism (1984), winner of the Evans Biography Award; King and People in Provincial Massachusetts (1985); and The Refinement of America: Persons, Houses, Cities (1992). A practicing Mormon, he lives in New York City with his wife, Claudia.
Richard Bushman's latest book "Rough Stone Rolling" shows a lot about Bushman's style and treatment. Unsavory possibilities are mentioned as what others may have understandably charged or as rhetorical questions, but these are quickly deflated. In other cases, not all the information is presented, presumably because the sources were questionable (to Bushman). And while the admissions about Smith's plural marriages certainly go beyond Sunday School teachings, the faithful framing of the practice and motivation is entirely compatible with Church thinking. This buffering of the "rough stone" makes it likely that Mormons reading this book will not damage their testimonies.

SACRAMENT MEETING
The Sacrament meeting is one of three-hour blocks in the Mormon Church. Sacrament meetings are reserved for the entire ward meeting for one full hour. The Mormon Sacrament is passed, talks are given, hymns are sung, testimonies are given and general ward business conducted.
Mormon meetings are styled as discussions but in fact real discussion is forbidden. The purpose of the meetings is to be a type of repetitious, comforting ritual - not much different from the repeated temple script actually. Words and ideas from outside of the script are a disruption for the entire reason for the meeting - and entirely inappropriate so far as Mormons are concerned.

SERVICE AND CHARITY
Mormons are commanded to give 10% of their gross income to the Church in "tithing". After that, they are admonished to give an additional 1% to "fast offerings", an additional percent to "Church Humanitarian Projects". They are also counseled to purchase and keep active subscriptions in several Church published magazines.
Mormons shun service to any organization outside of the Church and consider themselves as doing "spiritual service" to the community by giving time and money to the Church. Church members do very little community service outside of Mormonism and donate less than 1% per year of their income to any organization outside of Mormonism.

SPENCER W. KIMBALL
Eleventh President of the LDS Church. Spencer was a hard liner when it came to sin and through his books "Faith Precedes The Miracle" and "The Miracle Of Forgiveness", he exposed every sin in every Mormon. If you didn't have a sin before, Spencer would help you find one. Both of his books were absolute rubbish and did more to hurt members than heal them. Mormon authorities today continue to force members who have "transgressed" into reading both of these books.
In 1978 Spencer W. Kimball was facing mounting pressure for continuing to deny any rights or privileges to Blacks and suddenly received revelation that all Blacks were now allowed into the Church ordinances. The LDS Church denied that it was due to the fact that the federal government was reviewing the Church's tax-exempt status. After this the Church began a vigorous movement to eradicate any racist documents from the Church. The Book Of Mormon was changed where verses stated "White and delightsome" to "Pure and delightsome". Arguments made by McConkie or Brigham Young were now labeled as "non-doctrine" and "these men were speaking for themselves."
Spencer W. Kimball was an extreme hard liner when it came to Church Doctrine and Church Policy.

TIME
The Mormon Church's latest motto they are using on Television is, "Family. It's about time." The reality is that Mormons have very little time for family - especially males. Mormons are given numerous "callings" and teaching assignments. These callings can take as much as 24 to 48 hours of time each week. Many General Authorities (Mormon elite) have made comments that their wives raised their children - because they were so busy with Church work.

TITHING
Mormons are required to pay 10% of their gross income to the Mormon Church in the form of tithing. Mormons cannot enter the temple nor hold important positions without paying annual tithing. Each year Mormons are interviewed in December to make sure they are paying a proper tithe.
Mormons must pay tithing on employment and unemployment insurance, student loans, Pell grants, Social Security, Trust Funds and any other form of income. In Oct 2013, Mormon Apostle David Bednar stated "For those that pay their tithing, I thank you. For those that do not: repent!" he then added "Do not procrastinate the day of your repentance.".
Mormons are counseled that if they do not pay their tithing then they will be burned alive with fire when Jesus Christ comes for the second time - Mormons often refer to this as "fire insurance". In Mormonism all blessings start with tithing. If a Mormon does not pay tithing - they cannot hold leadership positions - and worse - cannot attend the Mormon temple. If a Mormon cannot attend the temple - then a Mormon cannot reach the Celestial Kingdom. In essence, tithing in Mormonism is a form of Extortion.
The Mormon Church in the United States is protected by law and refuses to disclose where tithing money is used. In other countries such as the UK, Canada and AU where the Mormon Church is forced to disclose finances - it is clear that millions of dollars are collected in tithing. Much of that money is funneled through Mormon Church owned Brigham Young University. Less than one half of one percent of the money is used for charity.

Women in Mormonism are not allowed to hold any priesthood power or major authority positions in the Mormon Church, excluding Relief Society and lower Church callings. Mormon women are often thought of as second class citizens in Mormonism. Men in Mormonism make all of the desicions from the top hiearchy of the LDS Church from the Prophet down to the Bishops.
