Bizarre eating habits of billionaires

Ice-cream for breakfast and coke all day... And you thought your muffin-and-coffee brekkie combo was bad? May we present the extreme eating habits of billionaires.

Oprah Winfrey loves potatoes...

“I’ve been controlled by potatoes for 40 years,” admitted Winfrey in a Weight Watchers meeting in January. “I actually was travelling the other day and opened a five ounce [140g] bag of crinkle-cut, black pepper potato chips and I counted out 10 chips,” she said. “And I ate 10 and I savoured every one. Of all the accomplishments that [I’ve] made in the world, the fact I could close the bag is major for me.”

Richard Branson drinks 20 cups of tea a day...

The Virgin Group boss, who is worth more than $5 billion, admitted that he chain-drinks around 20 brews a day. “I’m not sure how I’d survive without English Breakfast tea,” the 65-year-old told the Daily Mail. “Even in the Caribbean I must drink 20 cups a day [...] a cup of tea will never be far away.” It’s a wonder Branson has much time for business, between trips to the loo.

Steve Jobs once lived off carrots...

A 2011 biography revealed the late tech pioneer’s bizarre dietary habits. Jobs would purge his body by going for weeks eating just one type of food, usually a fruit or vegetable, and once had so many carrots his skin turned “a sunset-like orange hue”. Jobs thought his diet prevented him from needing to wear deodorant.

Warren Buffett eats ice-cream for breakfast...

The American businessman and philanthropist, 85, who is reputedly worth $91 billion, has the diet of a small child. Deliberately so.

“I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among six-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a six-year-old. It’s the safest course I can take,” the famously canny investor says.

Buffett’s daily buffet includes chocolate-chip ice-cream at breakfast, five Coca-Colas (regular at work, cherry flavour at home) and endless shoestring potato crisps. Despite that, he continues to work into his 80s and shows no signs of lacking energy. “If I eat 2700 calories [11,290kJ] a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola. I drink at least five 12-ounce [350ml] servings. I do it every day,” Buffet says.

Donald Trump eats EVERYTHING...

Donald Trump’s “billionaire” status is as questionable as his diet. According to his personal family doctor, if elected, 69-year-old Trump will be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”. It’s a curious claim, especially given that Trump told Bloomberg last year that he loves “steak and hamburger and pasta and French fries, all of the things that we shouldn’t be eating... Bacon, eggs, steak. You hear a report that comes out, and it says you can’t eat it and then you can, so I eat what I like.”
