Sheffield (i/ˈʃɛfiːld/) is a city and metropolitan borough in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, its name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. With some of its southern suburbs annexed from Derbyshire, the city has grown from its largely industrial roots to encompass a wider economic base. The population of the City of Sheffield is 563,749 (mid-2014 est.) and it is one of the eight largest regional English cities that make up the Core Cities Group. Sheffield is the third largest English district by population. The metropolitan population of Sheffield is 1,569,000
During the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population in the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1843, becoming the City of Sheffield in 1893. International competition in iron and steel caused a decline in traditional local industries in the 1970s and 1980s, coinciding with the collapse of coal mining in the area.

The Owls came from behind once more to post three points against Nottingham Forest – with Kieran Lee at the double on his 150th appearance for the club. Henri Lansbury gave the Midlanders a first half lead but Wednesday hit back in the second period, with Lee on target twice and the winner coming in the 90th minute. Overall, the Owls deserved the victory having dominated much of the game but Forest presented a resolute line of defence from the first whistle.
A dream goal from Steven Fletcher – the 100th of his career – saw Wednesday post their first away win of the season. The Scotland international produced a moment of first half magic to settle a close clash over the Pennines, smashing home a blistering strike to give the Owls their fourth win from five games.
A pulsating, ding-dong Championship clash ended with the Owls overturning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win, with a decisive goal from Kieran Lee clinching an unlikely success. Sheffield Wednesday official video.

The Owls saw their new Championship season underway with a deserved win against Aston Villa. Wednesday dominated the first half and Villa edged much of the second – but the hosts had the final say with a late strike from Fernando Forestieri.
Wednesday made sure of a place in the play-offs with a convincing 3-0 win over their only challengers, Cardiff, at Hillsborough. Having bossed the crunch clash from start to finish, a top-six slot was just reward for the Owls, who took the lead in the second half through the excellent Gary Hooper. The striker then played a huge role in the decisive second, with the dubious goals panel likely to judge if Hooper’s angled effort was heading in before Cardiff defender Lee Peltier got the final touch. Hooper then added further gloss to a terrific performance when he lifted the ball over the on-rushing David Marshall in stoppage time to ensure the season will extend beyond the regular finale at Wolves next weekend.
