October Shopping Summary

Shopping

So, I totally fell off the wagon in September and October when it came to shopping using only store credit. I went a little wild on workout clothes and bought quite a few lovely things at a friend’s Stella & Dot party.

And, yes, I decided to try Fabletics. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a monthly workout clothing subscription where you can pick an outfit starting at $49.95. You can typically get your first outfit for under $25 and then you can choose whether to spend the money every month.

I wasn’t super thrilled with my Fabletics options for November so I decided to skip the month. Either that or I was feeling a bit of regret for shopping in October. Especially since I didn’t really NEED the earrings or necklace. Or really the shorts or the other workout clothes.

The watch, though, I’ve worn a ton since I got it. I had a leopard print watch I bought several years ago for cheap and it fell apart. I’m happy to finally have a replacement!

My credit card, though, is not so happy. I think I’ll be back to deleting sale emails and not tempting myself for the rest of the year!

Favorite Outfit of October

Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall

I’ve heard several other people say it and it seems totally cliche, but what the heck happened to October?? Why it is November already?? Seriously, this is ridiculous.

I almost didn’t write this post because, as I mentioned on Friday, I feel like I’ve been slacking on blogging. But, it turns out I do have some outfits to share in the monthly voting round up.

First, though, how did I spend my month?

  • Running a 10K PR
  • Volunteering at the Chicago Marathon
  • Attending an event at a friend’s jewelry store
  • Trying a new brewery
  • Going to my first Stella & Dot party
  • Being in a bar when Chicago found out the Cubs were going to the World Series
  • Attending a clothing swap hosted by Mag Mile Runner
  • Going to an F3 meeting
  • Learning how to weld at Arc Academy
  • Brunching at Highline
  • Running the Lake Bluff Pumpkin Chase 5K
  • Hosting an event at Shoe Drop
  • Running almost 80 miles
  • Working my day job

So, yeah, I guess thats where October went!

Anyway, since I also wore clothes in October and took a few pictures of some of those outfits, did I have a favorite of the ones I shared? Well, if I went based on the number of times I wore an outfit, it would be this one.

But, in terms of the one I like the look of best, it would be this one:

Casual Friday · Office Appropriate Outfits - Fall · Style Imitating Art

Who’s ready for Monday?? I’m still battling a cold that hit me hard last week and I ended up spending most of Saturday afternoon in bed napping. It was glorious!

However, that didn’t leave me much time to snap photos, even though I’ve worn some variation of this outfit approximately three times in the last week and a half. I attempted to get a snapshot for this week’s Style Imitating Art challenge but I used the wrong lens and the photos came out blurry and grainy. You can’t even see that my earrings are feather shaped!

I went with grays and blacks since those are the main colors in this week’s pick. And, of course, my brown riding boots for the tan/orange accent, See, people have been pairing black and brown together for decades!

I was able to get my brown boots shined at last week’s Shoe Drop event and it really made a huge difference! I’ll be writing a whole post on the experience and the event later this week. Let’s just say, though, I think everyone who attended was pretty impressed and is looking forward to seeing what Shoe Drop can do for them.

Marathon Training This Time Around [Fitness Friday]

Fitness

I’ve been slacking on writing my Fitness Friday posts. I kept meaning to lump them into my October goals post but that didn’t happen, either. Maybe my slacking at blogging is because I haven’t been slacking at workouts.

As I’ve mentioned briefly before, I’m currently training for the Miami Marathon at the end of January. I’m training with Live Grit and we’re in week 3 of training.

It’s fun, for once, to have someone else give me a training plan. Although I’ve run 4 other marathons I’ve either used a training plan I found online (typically Hal Higdon) or made one up myself. I’ve never marathon trained with a coach or a group so this is a new experience for me!

However, I’m not giving up my strength training regime until it’s absolutely necessary. Thankfully I have a job where I can hit the gym on my lunch break to do the strength training stuff and I’ve been running before and after work.

Of course, it’s dark before work right now and if my run is any longer than 4 miles it gets dark before I get home. I prefer not to run in the dark by myself, even though Chewie would probably eat anyone if they tried anything funny. Still, I’d rather not take the chance.

Plus, after training for Gasparilla last winter I know I can do my runs on the treadmill if need be so I’ve been doing that here and there instead of running the dark. I’m going to make it work because I have plans for Miami.

So, here’s to marathon training for the first time in almost 4 years!
