Rosstrevor Cres, Mitcham, home sold for $1.93 million sets new suburb record

MITCHAM has a new house price record — and it’s just shy of $2 million.

A stunning four-bedroom house at 25 Rosstrevor Cres has collected the title after it sold for an eye-watering $1.93 million.

And it’s the third time the record has tumbled in a year.

Noel Jones Mitcham director Matthew Scafidi said the deal was struck late in the day on October 19, despite an auction planned for a later date.

The double-storey house was built with grand proportions in mind and had few expenses spared during its construction, according to Mr Scafidi.

Surrounded by landscaped gardens it featured a butler’s pantry in the kitchen, and a luxurious main bedroom with a dressing room.

The price was more than double the suburb’s $923,000 median house price, according to latest CoreLogic figures.

“It’s in a league of its own, but there are also low stock levels and high demand at the moment,” Mr Scafidi said.

He said the price had secured Rosstrevor Cres as one of the suburb’s top addresses.

“Rosstrevor Cres is certainly in the top five streets in Mitcham, though they’re subject to debate,” Mr Scafidi said.

However, he added that he did not expect a figure of $2 million to be seen any time soon.

“I’d love to say it will be beaten quickly, but I can’t see the $2 million happening any time soon, there’s not too many that are as well presented as Rosstrevor was,” Mr Scafidi said.

The new record was $180,000 above the previous record, set at 69 Carween Ave by Mr Scafidi with a $1.75 million price tag in February this year.

The Rosstrevor Cres sale meant the suburb’s high water mark has moved more than $300,000 since it hit $1.6 million this time last year, he added.

Home seller Suzanne Brennan said it was nice to be living in the suburb’s most expensive house.

“It is a nice feeling,” Ms Brennan said.

“I never dreamt I’d get that price, it’s slowly sinking in, but it was a bit of a nice surprise.”

Ms Brennan said the home’s location was idyllic with friendly neighbours and a leafy streetscape. She added that it was also a good entertainer’s home, and the garden would have added appeal to the buyers.

A buyers advocate purchased the home for a Mooroolbark family with grown-up children who were looking to downsize, according to Mr Scafidi.

An underbidder whose budget wasn’t far short of the $1.93 million mark is still looking for a home in the area.
