Karl jokes about split with wife, says she's worth "heaps"

$4m Sydney mansion of Karl Stefanovic and Cassandra Thorburn reportedly up for sale

TODAY host Karl Stefanovic and his estranged wife Cassandra Thorburn have reportedly put their palatial family home up for sale.

Situated in Sydney’s exclusive North Shore, it’s thought the palatial home could fetch up to $4 million when sold.

The couple is moving fast, selling the home just a month after they split.

Pictures from estate agents Tower and London reveal a relaxed, unpretentious style for the five-bedroom, three-bathroom 920 sq m home which comes with lots of outdoor space including its own pool.

The couple bought the home in happier times in 2010 for $2.3 million.

It’s the latest sign there is going to be reconciliation for the couple.

This week it was reported that Stefanovic’s 21-year marriage to Ms Thorburn fell apart as the breakfast TV host’s ego spiralled out of control, an unnamed friend of his wife alleged.

“The Karl she fell in love with is very different from who Karl is today,” the friend told Woman’s Day in an interview published earlier this week.

“Back then, he was just a country kid with barely a cent to rub. Now he’s a huge star with an ego to match, and that’s not easy to live with,” the friend continued.

The friend alleged that, while Ms Thorburn will cope well after the settlement of the split, Stefanovic would be “lost without her”.

The separation will “turn ugly and Cass will take him [Karl] to the cleaners,” the friend predicted.

Some reports have suggested Ms Thorburn could be in line for up to $20m in any settlement.

Last week, Ms Thorburn broke her silence about the much-publicised split, first penning a tirade on Facebook where she opened up about the toll that Stefanovic’s job had had on her and their children.

“Apparently Today show finally won a year,” she said.

“This took a huge toll on my family and I, and I’m congratulating myself today for all the effort that went into making that happen.”
