John William "Paul" Weller, Jr. (born 25 May 1958) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Weller achieved fame with the punk rock band The Jam (1976–82). He had further success pursuing a blue-eyed soul style of music with The Style Council (1983–89), before establishing himself as a solo artist in 1991.
Despite widespread critical recognition as a singer, lyricist and guitarist, Weller has remained a national rather than an international star, and much of his songwriting is rooted in British culture. He is also the principal figure of the 1970s and 1980s mod revival, and is often referred to as The Modfather.
The Daily Telegraph has said of Weller: "Apart from David Bowie, it’s hard to think of any British solo artist who’s had as varied, long-lasting and determinedly forward-looking a career." The BBC described Weller in 2007 as "one of the most revered music writers and performers of the past 30 years". He has received four Brit Awards—winning the award for Best British Male twice, and the 2006 Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Stanley Road is the third solo album by Paul Weller, released by Go! Discs in 1995. In 1998 Q magazine readers voted it the 46th greatest album of all time. The album took its name from the street in Woking where Weller grew up.[4] Weller claimed on a BBC special that he hopes he can one day create an album as perfect as this one, stating that all the stars were aligned during the writing and recording period of Stanley Road.
First broadcast in 2006, 'Into Tomorrow' looks at the 30-year career of Paul Weller, who tells his own story with the input of those who know him. Using unseen photos and archive footage, it covers his upbringing in Woking, his years with The Jam and The Style Council, his insecurity after being dropped by a record company and his return to popularity in the 1990s.
From my VHS collection (1996 "2 on 1" video, with Live Wood). "Highlights and Hang Ups" is the first ever documentary about Paul Weller. In it Weller talks candidly about his past, present and future as the film, utilising a mix of video, 35mm film and TV footage, captures him at all stages of his seventeen year career. Spliced throughout the film are many stunning and rare renditions of some or Weller's best works either from live performances or short specifically for the documentary. It is also the story of a singular musician who has fought with strength and determination, to archieve his goals. ------------ 1994. GO! Discs present a Film by Pedro Romhanyi, Paolo Hewitt & Steve Elliot. An oil factory Production. Filmed entirely in MODVISION.

Was fresh and bright and early
I went towards the river
But nothing still has altered just the seasons ring a change
There stood this old timer
For all the world's first poacher
His mind upon his tackle
And these words upon his mind:
Bring me fish with eyes of jewels
And mirrors on their bodies
Bring them strong and bring them bigger
Than a newborn child
Well I've no use for riches
And I've no use for power
And I've no use for a broken heart
I'll let this world go by
There stood this old timer
For all the world's first poacher
His mind upon his tackle
And these words upon his mind:
Bring me fish with eyes of jewels
And mirrors on their bodies
Bring them strong and bring them bigger
