Cardboard Castles is the second studio album by American spoken word artist and rapper Watsky. The album was released on March 12, 2013. Unlike his debut album, entitled Watsky, there is a deluxe edition. The deluxe edition includes one extra song, and the CD case folds into a miniature "cardboard castle." Watsky also embarked on an American tour to promote the album (some dates in Canada and the UK were also included). The album is also available on vinyl at request of his fans.
On March 5, one week before Cardboard Castles was released, Watsky leaked the album on Rap Genius. This included the announcement of the deluxe edition bonus track, entitled Dent In The Moon. Along with the leak, Rap Genius held a contest for the 'scholar' who explained the most lyrics on the album. The prize was two tickets to Watsky's concert at Irving Plaza in New York City. The concert took place on March 30.
On January 22, 2013, Watsky released the first single from Cardboard Castles, entitled "Strong As An Oak," along with a music video. The video has gained over 3,475,000 views as of April 19, 2015.

For our 21st anniversary, we bring back 1993 with a series of 93-second interviews with Bay Area artists remembering that seminal year in the evolution of hip hop. Clas/sick Hip Hop: 1993 Edition reimagines the catalog of one of hip hop's most commercially and artistically successful years: 1993. In that year, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan, and Tupac Shakur all released seminal music that recalibrated the sonic possibilities of the entire genre. 1993 was also the year that YBCA opened its doors with a mission to celebrate both the Bay Area's local prowess and the globe's contemporary aesthetic vision. Matt Werner spoke at Google in Mountain View on August 6, 2012 about his book Oakland in Popular Memory: Interviews with 12 cutting-edge musicians from Oakland and beyond. He is introduced by Brit Bjurstrom. ABOUT THE BOOK: The image of Oakland, California has been tainted in the mainstream media with salacious news reports focusing on street violence, shootings, gangs, and riots. These reports—along with assumptions and stereotypes—feed the fabricated image that outsiders have of the city. In Oakland in Popular Memory: Interviews with 12 cutting-edge musicians from Oakland and beyond (Thought Publishing / May 2012 / $15.00), Oakland native and former host of the award-winning radio show on Fresh Air: The Alternative, Matt Werner introduces a different narrative by presenting a collecti...

Rebecca Solnit, Aya de Leon, and Julia Serano at the Bay Area Book Festival (moderated by Chinaka Hodge) In business, disruption speaks to radical change. Similarly, literary disruptors are those writers whose words and ideas spark radical reactions and create game-changing conversations. In this panel, four change-makers come together in conversation about why and how they disrupt, exploring why this orientation to writing effects tangible change.

Hiding faces turning pages
Still they read and read
Double deckers full of smokers
Look who's gone to seed
Well the sun's getting higher
Think I'll take a flyer
The thought of it's causing me pain
Ooh!
Talk a walk under the subway
See an old school chum
Window shopping for a short while
Then we'll have some fun
Well the shops closing early
Everywhere's deserted
Hello and down comes the rain
Oooh!
We'll do the town tonight
I know some girls then stop off for a bite
No strings to tie my kite
Well living for the night
