Oaks Day 2016: Best and most creatively dressed in The Birdcage

The ladies ruled the roost inside The Birdcage on Thursday for Oaks Day - the day of the pink rose. While varying shades of blush were popular, the majority of looks resembled wedding cakes with sweet details and pastel shades.

The First Lady of Flemington, Jennifer Hawkins opted for a soft, powder blue dress by Queensland label Talulah.

Resembling an extra from Steel Magnolias (or channelling Democrat Hillary Clinton?) the one-of-kind, off-the-shoulder lacey creation was a sweet departure from her fire-red number from Cup day.

Rachael Finch was resplendent in the latest Self Portrait doily. A lilac sugared almond bow by Ann Shoebridge was a sweet touch.

Rebecca Judd in a Jonathan Simkhai sky blue and white bandeau dress was a sight for sore eyes. If you squint and turn your head to the side she looks like a Santorini vista.

Turia Pitt was fierce in fluro Manning Cartell with sheer panels. Her neon, form-fitting dress was the much-needed lemon twist in sugary sweet The Birdcage cocktail.

Model and former Miss World finalist Magnolia Maymuru also went against the grain and donned a Dijon mustard frock for her first Oaks Day outing.

Usain Bolt looked like the cat that got the cream (suit). If accessorising was an Olympic sport, he'd take gold. His outfit had more detail than a senate committee hearing thanks to the stripey socks, colour coordinated pocket square and red patterned tie.

Sylvia Jeffreys wore every colour of the rainbow and topped off her version of Angelina Jolie's wedding dress with a tri-colour boater hat.

Bec Hewitt never won a gold Logie so the artist formerly known as Home & Away's Hayley went dressed as one as envisaged by Cristahlea.
