Individuality and the anarchist group

Prologue

This title from Black International, “Individuality and the anarchist group”, written by Gerasimos Tsakalos of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire – Urban Guerrilla Cell, is about a topic that concerns many of those who are an active part of the anarchist tension. Concerning not just the way comrades negotiate and conduct themselves within minimal organisational structures (clusters, networks, affinity groups) of informality and attack, and the effect of those forms on individuals, it also looks at the problems that can arise and some possible solutions. All this can add to a notional ‘to-be-completed’ mapping of some of the borderlands between the peripheries of the social and the clandestine for those traversing such terrains.

Written from the lived experience of an armed anarchist urban guerrilla who is imprisoned in the isolation dungeon of Korydallos prison in Athens, Greece, this is not a dreamy fantasy but a text which was developed in the furnace of practical theory and it’s consequences. The horizontal forms of organisation which are described here are ones that have been used and developed in practice, not from scriptures, but in the actual chaos of the everyday.

For a black international of anarchists of praxis.

Individuality and the anarchist group

Instead of a Prologue

About the subject of “Individuality and the anarchist group”, one could say that it’s a timeless issue within the anarchist milieu… Is an anarchist individuality subjugated or liberated within a group? How does the individual encounter the collective? Can disagreements between comrades of the same collective be creative or do they inevitably lead to disputes, rivalries, intrigues, competitions and end up in rupture?

How are friendships and cliques able to bring about a cancellation of an anarchist group?

What is the relationship of an anarchist organization to the expulsions of members who participate? How can informal hierarchies and their members-followers survive in an anarchist project?

These are some of the issues that arise from the explosive relationship between individuals who try to coexist in anarchist groups.

The pamphlet “Individuality and the anarchist group” is an experimental testimony of political experiences from the interior of anarchist illegal infrastructures of revolutionary violence. The relationships that are formed in such cores are acrobatic at the sharp end because they are tested in extreme concentrated conditions and options. (more…)

Koridallos prison, Athens: Summary of sentences in the CCF escape case trial (Greece)

Saturday, July 9th, 2016

On July 8th 2016, the Koridallos prison court – presided over by special judge Asimina Yfanti – convicted all members of the anarchist revolutionary organisation Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, who were accused of placing an explosive device at Koridallos tax office; sending a parcel bomb to the police station in Itea (in retaliation for the murder of inmate Ilir Kareli by prison guards); sending a letter bomb to the home of Dimitris Mokkas (special appellate judge against terrorism); planning an armed escape from Koridallos prison (dubbed “Gorgopotamos project”); and possession of firearms, explosives and anti-tank RPGs with the purpose of “disrupting the country’s social, economic and political life.” Furthermore, in relation to these charges, they were convicted of “direction of a terrorist organisation” and incitement (“moral instigation”) to four attempted homicides.

During the sentencing, there was a strong presence of comrades in solidarity with the anarchists and the dignified individuals co-accused in the CCF escape case trial. There was also heavy police presence (including an anti-riot squad).

CCF members:

The ten CCF anarchist prisoners Gerasimos Tsakalos, Christos Tsakalos, Giorgos Polidoros, Olga Ekonomidou, Theofilos Mavropoulos, Panagiotis Argirou, Giorgos Nikolopoulos, Michalis Nikolopoulos, Damiano Bolano, Haris Hadjimihelakis were sentenced to 115 years in prison each.

Comrade Angeliki Spyropoulou:

The anarchist prisoner Angeliki Spyropoulou was sentenced to 28 years in prison.

Relatives of CCF members:

Athena Tsakalou (the mother of CCF members Gerasimos Tsakalos and Christos Tsakalos) and Evi Statiri (the partner of Gerasimos Tsakalos) were found not guilty by a majority opinion (instead of a unanimous verdict).

However, Christos Polidoros (the brother of CCF member Giorgos Polidoros) was convicted of “membership in the terrorist organisation Conspiracy of Cells of Fire” and received a 6-year suspended sentence.

Other prison sentences & a couple of acquittals:

Christos Rodopoulos (nicknamed “Iasonas” by authorities), who has denied all charges, was sentenced to 75 years in prison.

Christodoulos Xiros (convicted 17N member) was sentenced to 65 years in prison.

Four other defendants were convicted of alleged membership in the organisation and sentenced to 27-28 years in prison each.

Fabio Dusko was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Four other defendants were acquitted of membership in the organisation but received a 6-year suspended sentence.

Two other defendants were found guilty of misdemeanor offenses.

Two defendants were found not guilty.

Update from the fast-tracked trial of CCF – 02/06 (Greece)

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

Today the presiding judge A. Yfanti gave new meaning to the concept of fast-tracking proceedings. Within 2.5 hours thousands of pages of evidence documents were ‘read’. In normal proceedings such documents would be read to the court word for word as they are supposedly part of the evidence for the hearing.

Following the command of the appeal court administration the Golden Dawn trial was suspended so presiding judge A. Yfanti could ‘finish’ the CCF trial, proving once again that the sentences were already ordered before the trial had even begun.

Today, 02/06 all of the witnesses were heard in record time and often with answers dictated from police headquarters. Then, despite a request for an interruption so that the CCF could acquaint themselves with the evidence, the judge continued the process unabated. (more…)

Update from 31.05.16 hearing of the CCF Escape Plan trial (Greece)

Saturday, June 4th, 2016

The hearing on 31/05 was based on the presentation of witnesses. Once again the presiding judge, A. Yfanti resorted to using dirty tricks with the aim of harming the defendants (the CCF comrades, their relatives and the prisoner Fabio Dusko). The judge urged the prosecution witnesses to reread their statements and try to “remember more things”, however the statements did not add anything of substance to the accusations.

The judge attempted to open up a debate about possible “collateral damage” from CCF bombings and used an attack against the taxation office as an example.

Responding to this, the comrade Christos Tsakalos – who was allowed back into the courtroom for the trial – spoke to the court despite attempts by the judge to silence him and stated that the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire always gave telephone warnings to avoid endangering the lives of people who were not the target of their attacks. Review of the event about CCF in “Biblioteca Kaos” on May 26 (Brazil)

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

Dealing with the perpetual technical problems that the comrades who attend the library already know, we present the book “Our day will come” that we translated to Portuguese and we watched the movie made by CCF comrades “Phoenix Project. The Return of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire”.

We began the event with the reading of the words written by the comrades of “Sin Banderas, ni Frontera”, core of agitation and anti-authoritarian propaganda from Chile, of Kataklysma contra information blog, of Spyros Mandylos and of the CCF comrades. We know that these words arrived to us and teased us deeply; that listen to them was an important moment of the event. It would have been difficult not to feel us captivated by the strenght of the messages read and the firmness that they transmit. After the reading, we watched the video of the Phoenix Project, the words and voices of the comrades in the video made all of us feel closer of the comrades, and, at the same time in which we delighted with the accurate attacks against domination.

Breaking grades, frontiers and distance that separates us was one of our aim with the initiative of realizing this event. We believe that in this breaking, resides the solidarity, at the end, transforming distant in near, we bring seeds for the insurrect action in this territory, and we know that it doesn’t exist better solidarity act that the attack. Nevertheless, this event was one more impulse so that we have to keep sharpen ours knives pointing against Power… (more…)

CCF Escape Case: Report from the latest episode of Judge A.Yfanti’s kangaroo court (Greece)

Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

At the hearing on May 24th Judge A. Yfanti once again started the session without waiting for all the co-defendants to arrive. The comrades George Polydoros and Angeliki Spyropoulou entered the courtroom after the hearing had already begun.

A motion from the CCF comrades to remove the presiding judge was deliberated over by the same court who denied the motion and kept the same judge.

At the hearing, the comrade George Polydoros read a statement saying that the judge is unfit to direct the trial, recalling various incidents in which the judge had threatened and taunted the accused along with his insistence of conducting the trial without lawyers. The comrade also stated: “What to do with the representatives of the judiciary who have judged and imprisoned my brother, the mother of Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos and the wife of the latter? We do not know, but the anarchist urban guerrillas will provide the response”. (more…)

Report on the 18.05.16 CCF trial hearing for the Jan 2015 escape attempt (Greece)

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

On Wednesday May 18, after being delayed by the lawyers strike, the trial resumed for the attempted escape by the comrades from the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire (the foiled escape plan of January 2015). Also accused are the comrade Angeliki Spyropoulou and family members of the comrades.

It is important to mention that the judge presiding over the court, A. Yfanti, has used his filthy power fully aligned with the vengeful state against the CCF comrades, trying for example to go ahead with the trial without lawyers, mocking the comrades and ignoring the requests of lawyers.

At the beginning of the hearing on Wednesday, a lawyer for one of the comrades of the CCF was absent. In these cases the court is obliged to appoint a new layer, but the president of the court ordered that he be tried without a lawyer present.

Immediately the CCF comrades Gerasimos Tsakalos, Olga Economidou and Christos Tsakalos who were present in the courtroom interrupted the hearing, shouting at and cursing at the judge for the fascist practices shown during the trial. The comrades began throwing objects after which the guards intervened while the president of the court ran to hide in an office.

One of the lawyers took to the floor and presented a request to stop the trial because of the actions of the judge.

The comrade Christos Tsakalos then referred to the risk their relatives face (his mother, the wife of Gerasimos and the brother of comrade Giorgos Polydoros), they are being accused of ‘belonging to a terrorist organization’ and with the aggravating provisions they could be punished with up to 20 years in prison.

The comrades of CCF and the comrade Angeliki Spyropoulou claimed responsibility for the escape plan, noting that none of the remaining defendants had any role in it. They then left the room stating it was a fact that the judge would ask for their expulsion, which actually did take place, the judge ordered that the 3 comrades G. Tsakalos, O. Econimidou and C. Tsakalos be expelled indefinitely from the courtroom. Lawyer appealed the decision but their claims were not considered.

The next session of the trial was set for Tuesday, May 24, the day on which the first 5 witnesses will be paraded, all of whom are police officers.

From our enemies we can expect nothing, and this is clearly vengeance by the state against anarchists and urban guerrillas who remain unrepentant for their ideas and actions.

Insurrectionary and internationalist solidarity with the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, their accused relatives and comrade Angeliki Spyropoulou!

C.C.F Urban Guerrilla Cell “The Hawk and the Snake” for Mauricio Morales (Greece, Chile)

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

“The only thing that I’m afraid of is the time…The detriment of remembrance that looks like a second death for those who are gone… Time is a friend of death…Unless we stop the hands of the clock and fill our journals with days that those who are gone were dreaming of… Then death will have no power and our dead will live on in our hearts.”

On May 22th 2009 the anarchist Mauricio Morales gets killed while carrying a bomb in order to place it at the prison wardens’ school in Chile.

Many believe that our struggle is futile… They don’t believe that a minority of defiant anarchists can attack the governmental beast.

Still they’re forgetting that always a minority -like detonators- overturn history and derail what has been considered as a given yesterday.

Others believe that we are romantics and that it isn’t worth sacrificing ourselves for others… Yet, as it has been written somewhere “The revolutionary anarchist doesn’t sacrifice him/herself for the society, but instead he/she sacrifices the existing society. The constant anarchist revolution isn’t a sacred duty that has to be carried out by selfless ascetic martyrs. Instead, it encapsulates the individual insurrection as well, since it’s this point where our change meets with the change of the world…”

So even if we die, it’s because we have truly lived…

This is the reason that we don’t believe in mortuaries, but in actions, words and meanings that are carrying our souls within the centuries…

Seven years after his death, we are still meeting again with Mauricio Morales through the words of the anarchist Emma Goldman:

“I don’t know which of you has read the wonderful prose piece of Gorki that is called the Snake and the Hawk.

The Snake cannot understand the Hawk.

“Why don’t you get some rest here in the dark, in the beautiful, slippery dampness?” asked the Snake. “Why flying in the skies? Don’t you know of the dangers that lurk there, the violence and the storm that are waiting for you and the gun of the hunter that will knock you down and destroy your life?” But the Hawk didn’t pay any attention. It spread its wings and flew in the welkins; its triumphant song was heard and echoed in the skies.

One day the Hawk was knocked down, its blood was gushing out of its heart and then the snake said “Fool, I’ve warned you, I told you to stay where I was, in the dark, in the beautiful, warm dampness, where no one could find you and harm you…” But with its last breath, the Hawk answered “I have flown in the welkins, I’ve ascended in immense heights, I have seen the light, I have lived, I have lived!”

For Mauricio Morales…

For the comrades that are gone…

Text by CCF : Urban Guerrilla Core in the context of the international squatting campaign (Greece)

C.C.F. – SQUATS – THE HOUSES OF ANARCHY.

Some thoughts on the invitation sent by the comrades of Papamichelaki Squat, of Teflon Library, of Radiofragmata and of Continuous Deconstruction, about the Squatting issue.

The following text corresponds to snapshots and features that we can find in the current squats in Greece.

I) Property is theft.

“Property is theft” says one of the oldest anarchist slogans. It is the theft of collective life, it is the abolition of community, it is the refuge of taking distance from the commons, of fear.
Property and its twin sister power, gives birth to the distinction of people based on titles, positions and privileges… Just like the sky has no borders, the land should not be owned.
A human from a collective being becomes an owner. An owner not of their life but of walls, windows and furniture…
Squats have begun as a form of denial of property, and of self-organised expression. The course of the squat movement has many shades… Some of them are more militant, others are more harmless… There are anarchist squats and alternative squats, squats which are cores of lawlessness and squats which are dehydrated cultural centers.
Today in Greece there are much more squats than in the past, not only in Athens but also in many cities. (more…)

“A discussion from the future”… or, “imprisoned anarchists and intermediate claims (university studies with electronic surveillance, licenses, suspensions)’ by Christos Tsakalos of CCF/FAI-IRF

Thursday, May 12th, 2016

They say, in prison, that the most insidious drug is hope…

Hope for a good transfer, a convenient cell, a good court-decision, a sentence reduction on appeal, a semi-free status with electronic surveillance, for license approval, a suspension, an early release.

Hope is prison’s (and democracy’s) velvet bat. The prisoner now suppresses them-self in exchange for any of the above…

The price for the common prisoners in order to keep their hope alive is to become prison snitches, to be quiet, not to participate in demonstrations, to be a part of the anonymous statistics of the prison population and generally to invisibly serve their sentences with their head down.

The price for political prisoners is to renounce the armed struggle or even to capitulate with their silence…

In the “Years of Lead” in Italy, that usually happened by public declarations renouncing the armed struggle, often followed by telltale testimonies that led to fighters’ arrests. (more…)

Conspiracy of Cells of Fire: Call for international ‘Fuck the Nations, Squat The World’ actions (Greece)

Wednesday, May 11th, 2016

The well-regulated normality of social life within systems of power is not the product of a one-dimensional strategic perception that follows a determined path, but on the contrary it’s the totality of many well-thought and tested logics, tactics and practices. It’s a fact that power would not be what it is today, had it not been in a constant process of self-evolution covering previous deficiencies and weaknesses in the management of social tolerance of its followers. It is not accidental that there have been and continue to appear entire political and philosophical currents that examine the necessity of power structures within human societies. Through the constant appearance of experiments, studies and dissertations, a series of political and scientific think-tanks arm the hand of power with more and more specialized methods that ensure social tolerance.

»If the initial imperceptible signs of disarray are not combated, then chaos and anarchy will soon prevail.» The above sociological interpretation, which posits the essence of a particular theory, upon which a variety of repressive plannings have been formed, is inextricably connected to the way the enemy handles all possible dangers of destabilization since their birth and in their totality, even before they have flesh and bones. Speaking of the danger of destabilization which may be manifested in subversive radical currents, we could say that the zero-tolerance doctrine aims at their preventive tackling. Different phases of preventive tackling have been noticed. It is observed that during the first phase, with the beginning of a new subversive current that internally acquires a more radical and aggressive logic, repression is upgraded almost instantly and becomes excessively disproportionate in order to stop any further sharpening of the current’s offensive characteristics. Those who express this combative logic are met with the ruthless vengeance of the system that does not hesitate to turn against their entire social circle in order to create conditions of generalized fear. Text of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire for the Court of Appeal (Greece)

Monday, April 25th, 2016

On the 20th of April starts the second grade trial not only for the C.C.F. Case and some of its actions, but also for some other different cases of anarchists accused for actions of revolutionary violence. All these cases were attached to each other in a single trial, in order to serve many different and parallel judiciary manipulations against all those accused.

Regarding ourselves, we make it clear that towards the legal processes of this court, as well as any of its issues, we are completely indifferent. But even if the legal dimension is not one of our concerns, we’re interested in taking advantage of this opportunity to defend once more the action of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, to convert one more court-trial into an arena where anarchy stands against the enemies of freedom. A chance to confront again the technocrat servants of Justice and show that they are responsible for the misery that their existence carries.

The starting point of the state’s repression, the raid and invasion at the house in Halandri on 23/09/2009 and the arrest of Haris Hadzimihelakis – a member of the Conspiracy as well as that of others related to the case or not, and the barrage of persecutions that followed was a strong surprise for an important part of anarchy. It is a fact that a great shadow of fear spread causing a generalized numbness which contributed to the halting of the aggressive polymorphy that occurred during the period 2008-2009, as direct action decreased steeply.

At the upcoming trial inside the courtroom, a section of the history of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, which the state seeks to punish through the dead letters of the pages of the penal code which constitutes the peak of repression against the anarchist prisoners, will live again.

The dozens of arson attacks against state and capitalist targets, the bombings of politicians’ homes, the arrest warrants, captivity, illegality, the upgraded explosive devices in courts, prisons, banks, homes of fascists and other enemies of the revolutionary cause, are our own subversive experience as it proceeded through the Conspiracy, and we will defend it as such.

By defending politically our actions, we want to make it clear that we remain impenitent for our choices and actions through the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, and we aim to abolish the mapping of our history with the laws and the “wooden” language of the judges and instead impart to it its real characteristics, those of the decision of an anarchist group to arm themselves and carry out attacks against the system and its servants.

The fact that after so many years in prison we continue consistently supporting anarchy, the urban guerrilla and the option of all-out attack against the existent is our way to remain deniers of this society and its civilization.

Seven years later therefore, we don’t regret anything. The Conspiracy of Cells of Fire is more than a simple tool. It’s part of our own life and we’re never going to renounce it.

Because if time could turn back we would still walk the same path, because the fire of anarchist revolt still burns in our hearts.

Today more than ever there is a need to coordinate our passion to destroy the authoritative structures that surround us and to throw ourselves into a battle seeking freedom through thousands of acts that tries to disrupt the normality of the social machine.

The nuclei of the Informal Anarchist Federation, anonymous comrades who disturb the peace of the capitalist metropoles with their attacks, the polymorphous anarchist action trimming the function of sovereignty, the Black December project, the Insurrectionary Association of Theory and Action, is nothing but pieces of a mosaic of actions that build again an anarchy that is a real danger for power and its civilization.

Let’s turn these plans into an everyday war against the state and let’s venture into the ceaseless battle for the resurgence of the constant anarchist insurrection.

The bet is still open…

Everything continues…
